Chicks dig me, because I rarely wear underwear and when I do it's usually something unusual.

The Tuscaloosa News, which led the reporting on this story, notes the Hurricanes hit an average of more than 93 homers a season between 2008 and 2010, but last season with Nike bats they slammed just 33 dingers. That's a staggering 64.5 percent drop in power. Alabama's power dropped 86.6 percent over the previous three seasons.

For anyone wondering why the baseball team couldn't generate more runs, now we know. Thanks, Nike!

Let us now praise City Cafe. Is there another Tuscaloosa-area eatery that has meant more to more UA students than this local diner? City Cafe taught me that there are things worth waiting in line for, that there are women who can refer to you as food without making it sound dirty (dumplin', sugar, punkin', puddin'), and that macaroni and cheese is a vegetable. Here's looking at you, kid. We'll always have Northport.

"Alabama has now advanced to the NCAA Championship in each of Potter's six years at the Capstone. Prior to his arrival, the Tide had made just one trip to the NCAA Championship (1987) in the program's history." Apparently, other Tide coaches have a Process as well. Roll Tide, ladies.

"Alabama advanced to the third round of WNIT play with wins at Memphis and Northwestern last week. Most recently, the Tide knocked off the Wildcats, 72-70, thanks to a last-second layup by senior Tierney Jenkins. She finished the game with a team-high 18 points and 12 rebounds, marking her 20th double-double of the season. Alabama's defense has been stellar the last two games forcing a combined 46 turnovers that resulted in 53 points. In addition, the Tide collected 19 steals at Northwestern, which tied its season high." Coaches Grant and Saban aren't the only ones teaching defense around the Capstone. If you can find out the last time Alabama had two consecutive big wins on the road, let me know. My guess is that it was around 1994. Roll Tide, ladies.

Wallace Gilberry Leads Chiefs to Win at St. Louis

I'm sure most of the papers will focus on Matt Cassel's return from surgery to lead the offense, and deservedly so, but it's always nice to see one of our own perform well at the next level. Roll Tide, Wallace.

The NCAA Makes No Sense

4

"So the NCAA can thus say with conviction it has no evidence Cam Newton received any tangible benefit for going to Auburn. He wound up there for free. Sure, his father asked for $180,000 from Mississippi State in exchange for his son's services, but that doesn't mean he charged Auburn anything. Presumably, Newton went there out of sheer love for the red soil." Sally Jenkins is obviously a Bammer.

Jayhawk Scalping Scandal

2
The investigation said five Kansas athletics staffers and a consultant—all of them no longer employed by the school—sold or used at least 17,609 men’s basketball tickets, 2,181 football tickets and a number of parking passes and other passes for personal purposes. The report showed over $887,000 in basketball tickets and more than $122,000 worth of football tickets were involved. And it may be higher than that. Because investigators did not have subpoena power, the amounts could climb as high as $3 million once the federal probe is complete, according to Jack Focht, attorney for Foulston Siefkin. He said it’s also possible the scam could have started much earlier since accurate records were only kept back to 2005. I know it's not on the same level as students misusing textbooks funds, but that's only because it's worse. Rock, Chalk, Ripoff....

Tide Basketball Lands Two Big Fish

Coach Anthony Grant added two top players to the 2011 class tonight in consensus top 40 pick Levi Randolph from Bob Jones and top 100 recruit Rodney Cooper from Russell County. The future looks very bright indeed. Here's the money quote from Randolph's dad: "Alabama just stepped up to the plate," Randolph Sr. said. "From the first time we met Coach Grant and Alabama's coaching staff, they made a commitment they really wanted him. Levi felt that as well. ... He hasn't yet stopped..running up and down the stairs screaming and hollering. I think he's excited about it."

Rolando McClain Raiders Video

For those of you who can't get enough of our own Rolando McClain, here's a short video of his recent interview with Greg Papa for The Raiders Report. My favorite part is his reply to Papa's question about adjusting to the speed of the NFL. Miss you already, Ro.

"I was only doing 95 pounds on the bench when I started back in the Fourth Quarter program this year," Jones said. "I was struggling to get that up because of my shoulder." It didn’t take Jones long, though, to regain his strength. And when he did, his numbers soared. Just prior to the start of spring practice earlier this month, he maxed out at 405 pounds on the bench press and can tell a huge difference now on the practice field, which probably isn’t good news for opposing cornerbacks in the SEC next season.

Chris Low: Bama's Julio Jones Poised For Best Year Yet Although I've never been a big Chris Low fan, there's some interesting information here from his trip to Tuscaloosa on everybody's favorite wide receiver. Put this one in the growing "You-are-not-tough" file.

White House Confirms Tide Trip to D.C.

SEC Reviews Bye Week Inequity

2

At Mal Moore's request, the SEC will seek to terminate the recent tendency for Alabama to play a disproportionate number of SEC foes coming off a bye week prior to their matchup with the Crimson Tide. "The consensus feeling of the group was that there was inequity in the number of open dates for opponents prior to playing Alabama as opposed to other schools."
