Conference Record - last three HC

3

I found it interesting that in Spike Dykes' 14 seasons he only had one losing conference record (1990); in Mike Leach's 10 seasons, he only had one losing conference record (2000). It was reasonable to afford Tommy Tuberville one losing conference record (2010, just to keep the 10 year span going) - but a loosing conference record three years in a row is inexcusable.

The Big 12's middle tier has shifted. So, Texas Tech went 18 years without a losing season and played in 11 consecutive bowls. Baylor went 16 years without playing in a bowl game. Now, Texas Tech will be sitting at home for the holidays and Baylor is going to it second consecutive bowl game and has a chance to win 10 games.

Everyone Wants To Hire Mike Leach

6
... everyone that is except university administrators. Fans everywhere seem to be wanting their school to hire Leach as HC or OC. Many sports writers are also advocating Leach as the clear choice to take a football program to the next level. The most recent campaign to hire Leach comes from Florida Atlantic University. FSU fan enthusiasm for Leach found in the comments below this story is amazing. It begs the question: how important are the fans as stakeholders in governance and administrative matters?

From a Yahoo! Sports user - WHY DENVER SHOULD HIRE LEACH

It reminds me of a great story Mike Leach, former Texas Tech football coach, told at the AFCA...

11

It reminds me of a great story Mike Leach, former Texas Tech football coach, told at the AFCA Coaches' Convention. Mike Leach is an NAIA guy and got his start at Iowa Wesleyan. As he described it he was "offensive line coach, sports information director and equipment manager." Fast forwarding a bit, Leach told how they had a quarterback that was about to break national passing records and he couldn't get the schools marketing and public relations people at the time to send the story to anyone. So Leach got on the phone and called USA Today. After being shifted from call to call he finally left a message for the guy who covered small college football. To his surprise, he got a call back a while later from USA Today and the writer took down the information. Sure enough that weekend IWC quarterback Dustin Dewald had a small write up in USA Today on how he was "X" number of yards away from breaking this national passing record. Iowa Wesleyan's marketing and communications people pulled Leach into their offices and told him there was a certain protocol that he needed to follow to do things like this and that he should not have done what he did. Despite the program getting national recognition from Leach's efforts, he was reprimanded. A few weeks went by and QB Dustin Dewald broke the national passing record. Leach got on the phone and called USA Today again and reported the news. He got a call back, verified the information with the reporter and they printed the information in USA Today the following week. Once the article hit, Leach was back in the office of his superiors who were miffed at what he had done. Despite the positive promotion for the school and his ability to get IWC into the national spotlight, Leach was being reprimanded again for his actions. Leach had enough and let loose what might have been the first of his many great quotes as a football coach. Leach barked, "In two weeks I've gotten our school in the country's biggest newspaper, TWICE. You guys couldn't do it once if there was a darn double murder on campus." Leach was suspended without pay for 10 days as a football coach for the comment.

Chuck Carlton answers several questions about Texas Tech. Here is just one: On how long it will take for Texas Tech to get back to winning consistently: I said it before and said it again: Tommy Tuberville will need three to five years to get Tech back to the point where Mike Leach had it in 2008 and '09. That's not progress.
