My wife and I both graduated from UCLA in the early '80s. We moved to Norhern California in 2000 and continue to follow UCLA athletics from afar, although we manage to attend at least one game a year at the Rose Bowl.
I manage a non-profit organization called LEED, which stands for Linking Education and Economic Development. We're a partnerhip of employers and education organizations (K-12, community college and university) and work to align education to meet regional workforce needs.
I have been active in public policy, advocacy and economic development in the greater Sacrametno region for the last ten years, putting my BA in Political Science to good use.
We have two daughters, both of whom grew up attending UCLA football games and tailgate parties at the Rose Bowl. Our youngest is a high school cheerleader who hopes to be cheering for the Bruins one day.
I recently volunteered for the first time interviewing Alumni Scholar applicants - highs chool seniors who have applied for admission to UCLA. I was blown away by the caliber and character of the students from our community who plan on becoming Bruins. It was another reminder of the special place that UCLA is and the special people who choose to become Bruins - uniquely dedicated to academic excellence and committed to success, in the classroom, on the field and in their chosen professions.
If you haven't volunteeredwith the UCLA Alumni Association to support the next generation of Bruins, I strongly encourage you to do so. You'll have a whole new appreciation for UCLA and what it means to be a member of the Bruin Family.
Wow. I wrote a whole passage about UCLA without mentioning my complete and utter disdain for USC. Cool!
Go Bruins!!
