Viva El Birdos Austin Wilson did not sign

According to Keith Law.

For those who don't know, Austin Wilson was the Card's 12th round pick with 1st round talent who fell that far because most teams believed he would attend Stanford.

Still, I'm glad to see they took a chance on someone rather then going with the safe pick. I die a little when I think about Kozma failing at everything and hpw the Cardinals could have drafted Rick Porcello instead. Porcello has struggled since the Tigers destroyed his approach, but he still has a lot of talent with the right pitching coach. I know it's not the same situation and I digress but still, nice to see them taking chances.

Viva El Birdos Do the Cardinals have the guts to cut Suppan?

Well, let's just get this straight. I like Jeff. He was one of the most likeable guys in the clubhouse during his first years with the team, and he was a decent pitcher. 4 years after he left for the Brewers, not so much. I don't think I need to argue that he can't pitch in the majors anymore, but that doesn't mean the Cardinals will release him.

The Cardinals just signed Nate Robertson (who has also been bad, but not AS bad) and have Lohse and maybe Penny coming back. Suppan won't have a spot in the rotation or bullpen, but with the team's history do you think they'll cut him?

Viva El Birdos Elijah Dukes: Yes/No?

Now, I don't expect the Cardinals at all to sign Elijah Dukes, but he is still incredibly talented and only 25. On the plus side, you have good power, very good patience, and speed, matched up with so-so defense. On the minus side, you have, well, everything else.

He's reportedly cleaned up his act a bit since he has been in Washington, but he's never going to shake his reputation, and rightfully so. The report out of Washington was that this was about his inability to hit a breaking ball, but who can say for sure. If I had to guess, I would say Dukes will end up in Pittsburgh, where all careers go to die.

EDIT:

2008: .264/.386/.478 with 13 HR in 334 PA with 50 BB and 13-17 SB

2009: .250/.337/.393 with 8 HR in 416 PA , 46 BB and 3-13 SB

Now, he battled injuries in 2009, so maybe you can attribute some of those to his bad year.

In the field, he has

8.6 UZR in 81.1 innings in LF

-22.2 UZR in 614 innings in CF

2.8 UZR in 1152.1 innings in RF

So decent defense, albeit a small sample size
