Adopt-A-Prospect! Scout the next Detroit Piston draft pick
{Ed note: Awesome idea, thanks to NotoriousCPC for the brainstorm. -- Matt}
Despite what Richard Hamilton might believe, the Detroit Pistons, as currently constructed, are going nowhere fast. The team is steadily sinking into the depths of the bottom of the Leastern Conference and look to get a surefire top-10 pick. And picking in the top 5 or top 3 isn't out of the question.
With this season a wash and trades pretty unlikely, I think we should start a new project to keep fans informed and engaged: The Official Detroit Piston Fan Community Adopt-A-Prospect.
It would work like this: Pistons fans who are passionate followers of college basketball and can watch many of the necessary games would adopt a prospect that the Pistons may draft. For instance, if you live in North Carolina, Kansas, Georgia, Kentucky or you will be able to personally watch the performance of Ed Davis, Cole Aldrich, Favors, Wall, Cousins, Patterson, respectively you would adopt that player and keep tabs on him throughout the rest of the college basketball season.
That would include updated stats, match-ups where they excelled or struggled, and indications that they would excel or struggle in the NBA. Mock drafts and quick player write-ups and draft profiles can only provide so much. This is an opportunity to look beyond the box score and rally behind players that will make the Pistons the perennial powerhouse we are used to.
The same player could be adopted by more than one poster, the more info the merrier, but the goal would be to have all the top prospects adopted and maybe even some second-round possibilities, too.

New starting 4?
There is a lot of discussion about perhaps reinserting Charlie V. back into the starting lineup following his string of white-hot (and efficient) offensive play. But I gotta say, the more I watch the Pistons crew, I think I would rather have Jonas Jerebko slide into the four spot (at least once Tayshaun Prince returns). He isn't the biggest player, but he plays tough, uses his feet really well and is a good pick and roll defender. He also hustles down the court and puts himself where he needs to be on offense. I am not going to bash Charlie V., but I'm not sure the Pistons want his defense (or lack thereof) to start off games and I wouldn't be surprised to see him come off the bench the rest of the year — especially once some scoring punch returns to the lineup.
Jonas Jerebko — Future starting PF for the Pistons? Yea or Nay.
Detroit's ideal trade partner
With the burden of quarterbacking the team off his shoulders, Rodney Stuckey has become a much more productive efficient player, albeit in a limited sample of games. Many fans held the view that Stuckey's long-term home would be at SG, but if that transition were to happen it would mean the Pistons have 3 guards who have all earned starter's minutes at the same spot.
Many fans and armchair pundits have speculated on the future both Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince. Both play at positons of relative depth for the Pistons and both have veteran savvy that make them marketable. It would probably suit Detroit best to ship Hamilton somewhere, but his contract makes him the less attractive chip.
And of course, it takes two to Tango and finding an adequate trade partner for the Pistons isn't the easiest thing to find. As it stands I imagine the Pistons would want a pass-first PG that can be a floor general (although scoring output is negligible), perhaps a 3-point shooter that can help stretch the floor and maybe some additional beef to occupy the lane.
Seems to me the best fit might just be the Portland Trailblazers. They had sky-high hopes at the beginning of the season and injuries have decimated them to the point that their first big man off the bench is Juwan Howard and they don't have any real backup wings to speak of, which is putting a heavy load on both Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge.
I can see the Pistons being interested in Andre Miller, though he doesn't make enough money to make salaries match with Prince or Hamilton.
What other teams do you see as a fit, if the Pistons were to truly look at adding a traditional point guard to the squad?
