Koji out 2 months

Unfortunately, Koji's injury is a little more than just arm fatigue:

Wednesday, July 1:
Roch Kubatko says Koji Uehara's injury is serious: "The arthrogram on Koji Uehara's right elbow has revealed a partial tear of his flexor tendon, and he's expected to miss two months.Uehara won't require surgery, but he'll need to rest for three to five weeks and take part in a throwing program." Brad Bergesen = STUD

I was just scouring Brad Bergesen's stats and they are really impressive. I know there are plenty of naysayers who believe that towards the end of this year, or by next year, hitters will have figured him out and he'll become nothing better than a #4/5 in the rotation. However, if Bergy continues his recent trend, we could be looking at a fantastic, young pitching staff next year (if the 3 headed monster is promoted). Here's Bergy's stats so far this year:

APRIL: 2 Games, 5.59 ERA, 9.2 IP, 7K, 3BB, 1-0 Record

MAY: 6 Games, 4.78 ERA, 37.2 IP, 14K, 9BB, 1-2 Record

JUNE: 5 Games, 2.23 ERA, 36.1 IP, 19K, 7BB, 3-0 Record

Obviously, Bergy's June numbers are unreal, ranking up there as one of the top SP's in the league during that span. He pitched one less game in June then in May, yet had nearly as many IP, more K's and less walks, all while dropping his ERA down nearly 2.50 vs his May stats. Overall, Bergy's ERA is a very respectable 3.76 and he's looking very poised on the rubber. So here it is...I'll pose my question: Will Bergy be our opening day starter next year?

FanGraphs.com: O's "Spark Plugs"

Nice little blurb about the O's and their young prospects on FanGraphs.com (which I suggest checking out if you haven't done so already). Glad to see they think so highly of our Big 3, especially Chris Tillman.

Article Here

I'm starting to think that if Berken keeps struggling, they may send him down to Norfolk, keep Hernandez in the rotation and bring up Tillman, thus sending Koji to the bullpen. Who knows how long Koji will be on the DL, and who knows how long it will take the O's to send him to the bullpen?

3. Most pundits seem to think the Wizards are "going for it" by trading for Mike Miller and Randy Foye. Even assuming the healthy return of Gilbert Arenas, does this team have the talent, and more important, commitment to defense, that will catapult it past the Magic, Cavs and Celtics next season?
-- John, Gaithersburg, Md.

I don't know if they'll surpass those other contenders, but the Wizards will surely be respected by the top teams in the East. Three minutes after I broke news of that trade, a GM from one of the East's top teams called to ask if I had the details right. He didn't like seeing Washington add so much firepower.

Flip Saunders will make the most of this team -- so long as Arenas is healthy.

Possible Mets Trade?

Just throwing it out there...now that Beltran is injured, the Mets have 4 starters placed on the DL (Delgado, Reyes, Putz - I know, he's not a starter, but one of their best relievers& Beltran). Think the Mets might have an itchy trigger finger now and might offer the O's a nice little package to get Huffy or Scott? They're only 1.5 games behind the Phillies right now, even though they're decimated by injury - so obviously, they still have a chance to win the NL East. Not sure if they have any corner/middle infielders that may be ready to step in and play late this year/start next year, but I'm really hoping they do offer something enticing to McPhail. I have faith in our new GM, and I know he'll only trade Huffy or Scott if a very good deal comes along.

What are your thoughts on this? If the O's trade Huffy to the Mets, they could platoon Salazar & Wiggy at first, cut Melvin (or let him sit on the bench with huge wads of money coming out of his pockets) and start Andino at third. I don't know if this will happen, if it's plausible, or if this is even a smart move - but seeing Beltran go down got me thinking. Thoughts?

Edit to this post:

Here's a link to the Mets' "Top 15" Prospects...might spice things up a little bit
