I know everyone here knows how hot the A's have been lately but the Contra Costa Times put the last 45 games into mind stagering numbers...

Victories in a row

Victories in th last 11 games

Victories in the last 19 games

Victories in 24 games since the all-star break

Victories in the past 27 games

Victories in the past 40 games

Victories in the past 45 games

HAREN FACTOR:
The A's have won the past 14 games started by Haren equaling an Oakland record held by Chuck Dobson in 1971. And he happens to be 9-0 during that span.

THE PAST 45 GAMES
Their 37-8 record (which is .822 ball) ties the A's record over 45 games in oakland (twice in 2001) and obviously the best mark in the majors since june 18th with the Astros second.

The once struggling offnece scored a major league best 274 runs or 6.1 per game over this time.

They have made only 16 errors the fewest in the majors. ( St. Louis has made 21 for the second fewest)

They have lost back-to-back games only once JUly 6 and 7 at Toronto during this span.

The A's are hitting .293 and the pitchers have a 2.80 era over these 45 games.

The A's have 7 sweeps in the past 12 series.

Theyve won the last 8 seroies, and 15 of the last 16.

This is an incredible run for any team and what makes it so remarkable is that all these numbers are being put up with a team of many rookies or second year players. This team is one that GM's can only dream of.

OMAR Q's DEBUT!!!!!!

Since im sure not everyone here keeps up with the team with the worst record in baseball very often( The Colorado Rockies) many of you may have missed that our one time future second basemen Omar Quintanilla made his major league debut. He played shortstop and batted second in the order while going 1-3 with a stolen base in a 9-2 victory for the Rockies.

I was more dissapointed to see Omar in the Byrnes deal to colorado than i was to see Byrnes go but with the drafting of chris Pennington i guess Omar became expandable. With a team like Colorado Omar could play right away whereas here he was still probably acouple of years away from contributing. We should all wish him luck and that Colorado didnt rush him to the pros to fast as they often do with players.

Cruz's Latest Outing

In a victory for the Rivercats in memphis Juan Cruz continues to impress throwing 6 innings, striking out 7 while walking 3 in route to allowing only one run(a solo shot) to continue to lower his era.

I think Juan has nothing left to prove right now in AAA ball. He is absolutely dominating hitters every appearnce. I think he is worlds more comfortable starting games rather than coming out of the pen. This is unfortunate because Saarloos is pitching well and we have Kennedy in the bullpen(which Urban called a blonde Mark Redman when saying he doesnt fit with the team). I had diamond level seats today and Kennedy seemed to be pitching very well. What would you like to see in this situation?

Latest A's movement news.

According to ESPN, these are the latest A's movement news....

Yanks keeping tabs
<Jul. 2> Center fielder Mark Kotsay met with A's GM Billy Beane on Friday to discuss the possibility of a two-year contract extension and said "things are going in the right direction," the San Francisco Chronicle reports. "There's no rush and there's not a lot to say," said Kotsay, who wants roughly the same money he's currently earning ($7.025 million and a player option for 2006 at $7.05 million), along with a no-trade clause. The A's have rejected the no-trade clause, but could agree on a limited no-trade provision.
If an agreement can't be reached, the A's might trade Kotsay. According to the Journal News, the Yankees are monitoring the negotiations and have two scouts following the A's. Newsday reported that Beane recently spoke with Yankees GM Brian Cashman, but New York balked at Oakland's asking price for Kotsay - second baseman Robinson Cano and two former first-round picks, Class A right-hander Philip Hughes and Double-A third baseman Eric Duncan.

<Jun. 27> Peter Gammons reports that Billy Beane continues to tell teams he won't trade Zito during the season.
"Sometimes people don't believe me when I tell them I'm not trading Zito," Beane said.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, some inside the Phillies organization think that could change. If Zito is put on the trading block, Philly figures to make a bid for the left-hander with top prospect Ryan Howard being the centerpiece of any potential deal.

So basically nothing more than we already know.
