Prediction time: Texas Basketball
Pre season conference predictions for Texas basketball are not worth much since we didn't know how these guys would play together. Like much of the longhorn nation, I have not been able to watch much early season basketball since we now have our own network but cannot watch any games since so few of us have access to the network (great plan by the way).
So for those of you who have been able to watch the games, what do you think of our team? How will we match up against the rest of the big 12? Do we have a chance against Baylor and Kansas? the two SEC teams: Mizzou and am?Are we a 5th place team or better?
Gazelles play for the Final Four Today
Our Lady Longhorn Gazelles play today at 4:30ET on ESPNU against UCLA for a spot in the final four. Last night they played a tight game against Kentucky. They won in 4 sets but each game was closely fought. Our ladies played Kentucky in Kentucky so they played against a hostile crowd. That same crowd will likely be pulling for the underdog UCLA team today. For those of us who watched it on ESPN3 we also had to endure announcers who were clearly pulling for the Kentucky Wildcats. There were also several line calls that may have benefited the home team. But in spite of all that, our Ladies move on to the Elite 8 as the top seed.
Hook'em Horns. On to a Final Four spot!!
Lady Gazelles Compete today for the Elite Eight
Our Longhorn Gazelles will play Kentucky at 6CST/7PM ET on ESPN3.com. The winner will play the winner of UCLA/Penn State tomorrow for a shot at the Final Four.
Our Lady Gazelles are the number one seed in the Tournament. Several top seeds have already fallen so nothing is a given. Although Kentucky is unranked they are currently 28-5. Our gals are 24-4.
Be sure to tune in! Let's go Longhorns!
We may well be looking at the National Championship this year!
Lady Gazelles win
Our Texas Longhorn Lady Gazelles beat Michigan State in 3 straight tonight in Gregory Gym. Let me be the first to congratulate this team on their run to the final four and the championship game. I only wish it was not on the Longhorn Network so that I could have watched it in Ohio. Instead a game as fun to watch as volleyball, I get to stare at the game tracker. Oh well. Hookem and keep it going ladies.
Best rivalries....
so they say that Texas v ou is among the best rivalries but look at the picture. Who is shaking hands with Bob Stoops???
Things that excite me about the 2011 Longhorn football team
Several things excite me about the upcoming season. Although we know very little about this team because we have new coordinators, closed practices and many very young players, I remain optimistic. I remain optimistic because I wear burnt orange colored lenses. But however the season turns out after we play, I must say there are things to be excited about.
Coach Gundy and Justin Beiber
Funny stuff. Justin Beiber laughs at Gundy's rant and uses it as his ringtone. (don't ask me how I know this or why I care). I just thought it was funny.
Jerry Gray is coming to TEXAS
According to the Austin American Statesman:
Jerry Gray is coming to coach the DBs and will likely be announced later today.

Sure hope this is true. Sorry to see Duane go but I love this hire. Hope others are as excited as I am about this one. Still waiting for word about an NFL line coach to come in.

On line viewing for the Wyoming game?
Thought I better ask now. I live up in the part of the country where fox sports shows baseball instead of Texas football. I know what your are thinking. WHAT? I know! Fox is broken up into so many local affiliates that if you live outside of the region, a game on Fox means looking for a link for your computer screen. So if anyone could help a longhorn fan stuck in MLB country I would greatly appreciate it

Game Day thread
It has been way too long and even though you folks in God's country may be watching something other than Ohio State, it is a game (finally) and I am ready to watch college football. So consider this the game day thread for the first day of College Football. Any game is worth talking about. I propose we drink with every reference to Vince Young in talking about OSUs T. Pryor.

Oklahoma state to PAC 12? perhaps not
Oklahoma State Next to Jump to Pac-10 Originally posted Jun 10th 2010 9:54 AM PDT by TMZ Staff The Oklahoma State Cowboys are blazing a trail to the Pacific-10 Conference ... according to a source -- and leaving the future of the Big 12 Conference in serious jeopardy. A source in the OK State athletic department tells TMZ Sports the move is a "done deal." The Pac-10 just made it official that Colorado is also jumping off the Big 12 ship. We're told it's "just a matter of time" before the OK State announcement is also made. It's been rumored that Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M will also join the new super conference. Nebraska, it's widely believed, will go to the Big 10. As for why this is all going down -- our source says "everyone wants a playoff system ... and this is the first step toward doing it."

Exiting Toledo Provost slams University of Texas
In a letter to The University of Toledo community today, Dr. Rosemary Haggett, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, announced that she had accepted a position at the University of North Texas System.
“On June 1, I will become the first vice chancellor for academic affairs and student success for the University of North Texas (UNT) System,” Haggett wrote. “My excitement about assuming this new role is tempered only by the knowledge of what I will leave behind.
Her closing comments to us in her letter was that the "real UT is in Northwest Ohio". I thought that was pretty gutsy for a woman who is about to move to Texas. I hope you will greet her to God's country with the respect she deserves. We are glad she is leaving us.

Too soon over
It was so long in coming. The football "preseason" lasted forever. I could not wait for the first game of this season. Then it finally came and now it is coming to an end. WAY TOO SOON.
I know it is not over yet. I know we have two championship games to play. For the Big 12 this Saturday and hopefully for the national championship in early January. But that is only two games. Two games left and then we go into the long off season. What will we have next year on the D. Line. What will the O. Line look like? What will GG bring to the offense? Will we change the play calling to fit his skills? Will Whaley step in this spring for Tre? Who else? 9 long months of speculation and waiting for the first game of 2010.
I will enjoy what is left of this season before I go into football hibernation. And I will enjoy watching our basketball team play for a final four berth and hopefully a national championship. But football season will soon be over and I will miss it.

No significant change in BCS: Texas #3
Top stays the same. Florida, Alabama, Texas, TCU etc. Nice analysis by CFN and some minor changes but nothing major. Still looking forward to beating either the tide or the gators in the National Championship game.
http://cfn.scout.com/2/919992.html
TCU did not get a significant boost after beating Utah. So with what remains, it doesn't look like anything but a loss will change the numbers for the leaders. Everything will hinge on the SEC championship game as to who we play. After this weekend we see that A&M is a hit or miss but we should have fun hitting them.

Texas jumps to 2 in the coaches poll
Not a big jump and no additional first place votes. 4 first place votes moved from Alabama to Florida. TCU moves up to 4 which I like. I still think they are the strongest team (other than Texas). The interesting thing is coaches ranked Ohio State over USC. Ohio State has two losses. One to a weak Purdue team and the other to USC. Coaches must no be paying attention to the details this year.
Texas v TCU in the national championship game
OK so I know it won't happen. But after watching a lot of games the past few weeks, I would say that Florida will lose, Alabama will lose, Boise state won't but who cares, USC will remain a one loss team but will not impress anyone and Cincy has lost their quarterback. They may keep winning but they will not win as impressively as TCU's victory over BYU. BYU with their strong defense stuffed OU(sux) and couldn't touch TCU. TCU may be the second best undefeated team in the country and deserve a chance to play Texas for the championship.
Tulsa over OU anyone?
I am predicting that OU enters the Red River Rivalry with two losses. Tulsa beats OU for an Oklahoma Beat Down! You heard it here first.
That means OU has a chance to lose to Kinne (former UT quarterback) and Colt (again). If Ole Miss has a bad season in the SEC and loses to the Tide and the Tigers (they won't play the Gators this year, I don't think) the Sooners could end up playing their third quarterback with Texas ties and lose all three. That would be sweet.

On Line Listening?
Apparently we no longer can use yahoo sports for texas games online. No we are told to go to Texassports.tv which is, I think, CBScollegesports. There was a page on texassports.com that said that it would cost 6.95 a month or 49.95 a year which is close to what I was paying with yahoo. But when you try to register it says $118 a year. Has anyone registered to listen online? What was the cost? Are there alternatives to listen to Texas games? Hard to justify $118 to put a hot laptop in my lap for 3 and a half hours. Help??
