Peavy's Posterior Tibialis Tendon -----> Kablooey

Bedard sure picked a nice time to have his shoulder vaginitis act up.

Link

Peavy has a torn Posterior Tibialis Tendon in his right ankle, which will require at least 4 weeks in a boot, and the Padres trainers fear he will realistically miss more like 8-12 weeks. Which might put his return past the trade deadline, and dollars to donuts he won't be healthy enough for any competing team to roll the dice on him.

That's potentially big news for us if Bedard isn't seriously hurt himself, because it will make him the most valuable pitcher on the trading block and inflate any potential return we can get for him.

Please get healthy, Erik. And then sign with us again next season after we trade you, pretty please.

Shelton, Olson ----> Tacoma, Messenger Shot

Link

Looks like the rumors were true, the team picked Sweeney for his potential clubhouse contributions and a source informs me that he also made them a hot batch of cookies and ran into a burning building to save their puppy, then tried give all the credit to the fire department.

Sucks for Shelton after the monster spring he's put up but at least he'll be available in Tacoma and it's likely we'll be seeing him sometime this season.

Randy Messenger was also optioned to AAA, so any fears that he might somehow sneak his way onto the roster can be put to rest.

The Twins took Jose Lugo back as well, so he's gone.

Other Moves: Garrett Olson was also sent to Tacoma, Mike Morse was outrighted but cleared waivers and was resigned, and Cesar Jimenez was placed on the 15 day DL.

Brewers Fire Manager Yost

Everybody panic!!

"The Milwaukee Brewers fired manager Ned Yost on Monday, hoping to pull out of another late-season slump that has jeopardized the team's chance of making the playoffs for the first time since 1982."

The Brewers, after dropping 7 of their last 8 games and watching a 4 game wild card lead turn into a tie with the Phillies, lost their cool and fired their manager in one of those knee-jerk reactions that always ends well for a ballclub. Not that Yost was an essential part of the club's success or anything, but how is firing your manager with 12 games left going to make any difference unless he is personally spiking his lineup's drinking water with qualudes? And the Brewers are still having a better season than they've had in decades.

No word yet on who will be taking his place for the rest of the season, but it won't be Ted Simmons. The announcement should come at a press conference they've scheduled for tonight.

Link

Update: Third base coach Dale Sveum will take over as interim manager for the rest of the season.
