Doesn't he play both ways? Frees up another roster spot for us.

Hate to say it but Orton had better mechanics...don't know about Weeden.

Haven't you ever heard the phrase, "it's not what you know but who you know?"
Commented on Jason Garrett Enters "Make Or Break" Season As Head Coach on Jul 22 2014, 8:05p
I think if the team goes 10-6 or 11-5 with this schedule it will be a major accomplishment and the coaching should get a lot more credit than just meeting it's "potential".

Jerry and Stephen knew they were us against it with aging players and cap problems but the appearance of rebuilding is anathema to Jerry.
Commented on Jason Garrett Enters "Make Or Break" Season As Head Coach on Jul 22 2014, 1:42p
I think Jason made it pretty clear when he was carrying a clip board for Troy that he wanted to coach and Jerry recognized back then he was a pretty smart guy with a solid work ethic.
Commented on Jason Garrett Enters "Make Or Break" Season As Head Coach on Jul 22 2014, 12:22p
I don't know that Jerry can claim to have found Jason but he can definitely claim to have provided his training. Subtle difference.

Jerry, Stephen, and Jason are all smart guys. I'm pretty sure they have a slew of internal metrics they use to measure improvement beyond W/L.
Commented on Jason Garrett Enters "Make Or Break" Season As Head Coach on Jul 22 2014, 11:20a
I believe in 2-3 years those who have maligned Jason and denigrated his process will be eating a lot of crow.

Because they want Martin to get used to playing on the right side in case he has to step in for Free.

There are essentially 3 themes the media promulgates in order to stay relevent and entice readers.

And probably wouldn't have built the O line we have now.
Commented on Jason Garrett Enters "Make Or Break" Season As Head Coach on Jul 22 2014, 1:50a
There's a lot more going on here than simply 8-8 for three years. Jason is Stephen's guy. He is building something sustainable. He will get a new contract.
Commented on Jason Garrett Enters "Make Or Break" Season As Head Coach on Jul 22 2014, 1:48a
Romo has the ability to check out of a run at the line. You can say Garrett should forbid it but when you pay a guy $108 million you have to give him leeway.
Commented on How Can The Dallas Cowboys Improve Their Rushing Attack In 2014? on Jul 21 2014, 6:18p
Why doesn't he play both ways? We could use the extra roster spot?
Commented on Dallas Cowboys News & Notes: Can Cowboys Win "Highly Winnable" NFC East? on Jul 21 2014, 11:18a
Also think it depends on the stakes of the game. Later in the season with more on the line they tend to "let them play" because they don't want penalties to determine the outcome.

You might be right but Marinelli is not the only DC to realize he needs waves of rushmen. Every DC in the league will be doing the same thing.
Commented on Dallas Cowboys News & Notes: Offense Needs To Fix 3rd Down Performance on Jul 20 2014, 2:19p
I think the NFL's agenda has a lot to do with it hence all the rule changes that favor the offense and in particular the receivers...
Commented on Dallas Cowboys News & Notes: Offense Needs To Fix 3rd Down Performance on Jul 20 2014, 12:14p - 1 reply
Understood but just because he wasn't on the board doesn't mean he wasn't the better pick. Shame on the scouting department for missing him.
Commented on I'm still miffed that we drafted Escobar instead of Warford last year! on Jul 20 2014, 10:41a
I hope so unless it's the NFL's desire to become more like Arena Football whereby the team that has the last possession wins, in which case who needs defense.
Commented on Dallas Cowboys News & Notes: Offense Needs To Fix 3rd Down Performance on Jul 19 2014, 11:05a - 1 reply
Personally I'd rather see 28 points with four 8 minute drives than 28 points with four 3 minute drives. So would Marinelli and our defense.
Commented on Dallas Cowboys News & Notes: Offense Needs To Fix 3rd Down Performance on Jul 19 2014, 10:59a - 1 reply
I disagree. We have fewer attempts because we have such a low success ratio, and I believe we have a lower success ratio because we have been unable to run the ball.
Commented on Dallas Cowboys News & Notes: Offense Needs To Fix 3rd Down Performance on Jul 19 2014, 9:31a - 1 reply
Agreed. We could have drafted 11 defensive players and the articles would be about how we should have continued to improve the O line...
Commented on NFL Analyst: "Cowboys Have Built League's Best O-Line." on Jul 18 2014, 5:03p
Seriously!? Out of 11 picks we only drafted 2 offensive players but Marinelli didn't get any help?

As others have said, the distraction resulting from the incessant questions by the media about the situation.
Commented on Reports: Cowboys Set To Release QB Orton on Jul 16 2014, 11:48a
I'm pretty sure the spirit of these contracts is "returning money that hasn't been earned" and future contracts around the league will spell this out more clearly.

Commented on BTB Interviews Cowboys Executive Vice-President Charlotte Jones Anderson on Jul 15 2014, 11:36p
That is the fundamental essence of the debate, and I know I sound like a broken record, but the CBA and cap considerations aside he did honor the spirit of his contract...

Commented on Reports: Cowboys Set To Release QB Orton on Jul 15 2014, 6:56p
I agree. I've said all along that in Orton's mind he's only been advanced $250,000 that he did not earn.
Commented on Reports: Cowboys Set To Release QB Orton on Jul 15 2014, 6:48p
Not to mention if we had gone 10-6, we never would have been able to draft Martin.

I agree with everything you said, so long as it results in Jason getting a new contract.

With this schedule, winning 10 games and the Division. That would be a lot more than most expect from this team.

I didn't like it either but it's hard to blame Eli for that. It was all Archie's doing...he wanted Eli to play for a bigger name team, in a more established market than San Diego.
