Old School Jets Fan

I am among the most avid Jets' fans in the history of the world. My first "pro" football game ever attended was the Titans-Oilers game in 1960 at the Polo Grounds. In those days, the NFL had arcane black-out rules which kept Giants' games and other off TV. The Giants' fans were an arrogant lot, and those with season tickets particularly so. Meanwhile, the AFL televised twice on Sunday, with only 8 teams. I got to know the players and love the league.
I once won a contest by naming all of the Jets starting QBs since 1960, which takes a certain amount of fanaticism. Does anyone remember Johnny Green? Even Favre was better....sorry, Brett.
My 18 year old son, Scott, is an avid fan and keeps up with every detail of the Jets. His Jets' fanaticism matches mine when I was his age growing up with Wahoo McDaniel, Don Maynard, Emerson Boozer, Joe Namath.
I will have my son log on to my name when he wants. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments, and is a profile in courage in how he battles this bad season in his life. Following the Jets is a passion which helps keep his mind moving forward. His current condition is not his ultimate conclusion, and he knows we have too many games to attend and watch in the future. I will say this: the number of people in the world, including the TV talking heads and beat writers, who know more about Jets' football and Jets' players than Scott can be counted on the fingers of one hand...and you will have fingers left over. Do you hear me, Adam Schein and Solomon Wilcotts? Scott and I love to "bring it" to these Patriots' ring-kissers on NFL Radio from time to time. All in good fun. But honestly, Sollie, we do know our Jets better than you do!!!!
Scott and I were front-and-center in the dump Mangini movement and love Rex Ryan. We both went ballistic over the dumping of Pennington, who we consider one of the most underrated and underappreciated players ever, and the bringing in of Favre. By mid-season, with the talking heads making excuses for Brett, Mangini kissing his butt (in contrast to everything he supposedly stood for as a coach) and people still in denial that Pennington was far better, Scott proclaimed Favre as "the worst starting QB in the NFL". That move screwed up a Super Bowl season for us. Now that the season is over, he was probably correct in that assessment.
Whoever put this site together is a genius. Honest, informative, and chock full of nuggets every day.
