Let the crying begin
Across the blogosphere. Internet coaches, armchair quarterbacks, and the "I used to play (insert high school or college football reference.), will be lambasting the Patriots organization, Bellichick, and Brady for doing what they get paid to do , play professional football. Alot of the babies will be saying how "unclassy" the team is, how they were unsportsmanlike for "running the score up", or how Bellichick should've pulled Brady well before his 5th touchdown pass. Let me state, these people are morons! Blah, blah, blah. Play pro football. Coach pro football. Hell, even be married to a pro football player. Then come talk to me. You will never know what it's like to play on a field in front of thousands of fans who would boo you and cheer you in the same breadth. The team needed this. Kind of like letting off the biggest buildup of steam ever accumulated. Brady needed it. Moss needed it. Maroney needed it. The defense needed it. And yes, I think even Bellichick needed this. Anyone who derides the Pats for absolutely embarassing the Titans last night is a schmuck. Give Jeff Fisher a call, he'll probably thank the Pats for doing it. Players get played to play. Not to lighten up because they're opponent sucks. It's football people. these guys get paid millions to produce, they get paid millions to suck too.

Joey Galloway
Reports are that he is heading to the Patriots for a tryout.
"Galloway had only 13 receptions for 138 yards and no touchdowns. However from 2005-2007, Galloway averaged 67 receptions, 1,119 yards, and nearly 8 touchdowns."
http://wbztv.com/sports/patriots/joey.galloway.patriots.2.950847.html
Would be a good addition as a third receiver if he could come back into form, avoid injuries, and be left alone with everyone focusing on Moss and Welker. Being the third receiver wouldn't entail being on the field every snap and would keep him rested and possibly get his legs back. Liked him with Tampa Bay, until last year of course. Porked me in Fantasy Football!!!
Banta Cain back....
"The Patriots announced the signing of the team’s former 2003 seventh-round draft pick late Wednesday afternoon, as well as the signing of TE Brad Listorti."
http://www.projo.com/patriots/content/projo_20090218_patriots_banta-cain.2beef476.html
A LB and a TE,starting early, trying to shore up some trouble spots -- know nothing about Listorti and hope Banta-Cain can get back in shape, he knows the system and could spot some starters.
ALSO-----our rivals waste no time.
"The Jets are hosting free-agent WR Kelley Washington, formerly of the Patriots, tonight and tomorrow, according to the NFL Network.
Washington, primarily a special teams contributor in two seasons with the Patriots, was cut last week."
http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2009/02/jets-trying-out-ex-patriot.html
I personally liked Washington, thought he played well on special teams and always thought he might pan out as a 3rd or 4th receiver.
Harrison case coming to an end??

"Philadelphia police detectives met with the city's district attorney's office about a month ago to present their final evidence relating to an April 29 shooting outside a business in North Philadelphia owned by Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison that injured three people, a source with knowledge of the meeting told ESPN Monday night.
District Attorney Lynne Abraham has scheduled a press conference for Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Philadelphia to announce the results of the investigation."

Mayo wins Defensive Rookie of the year
This kid is a BEAST!!!! What a season. To come in to this sytstem and be a MAJOR contributor from day one is an impressive start to a hopefully long Patriots career. Every game I watched, this kid did something great -- from picking up a screen, to getting at the running back, to being in on a tackle, he did it all. I tip my hat to him for such a stellar season. Just plain awesome.
Here's the link and the write up....
"NEW YORK (AP) — Jerod Mayo firmly answered everyone who criticized the Patriots for taking him with the 10th pick in April's draft by winning The Associated Press 2008 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
Mayo was a nearly unanimous choice, earning 49 of 50 votes Wednesday from a nationwide panel of sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league. He was the outstanding performer on a linebacking corps that often struggled during New England's 11-5 season, leading the team with 137 tackles.
Mayo's versatility, highlighted by quickness and a physical style, made him stand out even though the Patriots didn't make the playoffs"

Looking forward to Sunday Night....

Regardless of the records and who's injured, the Pats-Colts games are some of the best games in terms of heated rivalries. Here's to a good game, a relatively injury free game, and an all out slug fest on Sunday Night Football. GO PATS!!!!!!

Brady's Knee -- 3rd time's a Charm
Listening to the radio this morning, I learn that Brady's knee has undergone a 3rd attempt at "cleaning" out the infection that plagued the area. The Herald is reporting that if the knee does not begin to heal properly, doctors will have to go in and REDO the entire reconstruction.. WTF!!! This is beginning to sound more like the south after the Civil War -- RECONSTRUCTION. By the time he's finished going under the knife he will have had more surgeries than Joan Rivers . Should I be panicking?? Is everything under control?? How will this affect his approach to contact in a game? I'd love to say I'm not worried, but I am.

Je'Rodd Cherry raffling his 1st Super Bowl ring for charity....
"Cherry, who now resides in Macedonia, is raffling off his ring from Super Bowl XXXVI after the 2001 season to benefit and create awareness for Asia's Hope, which builds orphanages for kids rescued from slave trafficking in Asia and Africa. "
"Tickets can be purchased at netraffle.org for $2 apiece with a minimum purchase of five.
The winning ticket will be randomly drawn by a computer on Nov. 27.
The winner will receive the 14-karat white gold Super Bowl ring worn by Cherry. It features 142 diamonds, red garnets and blue sapphires in the Patriots logo, platinum, a large marquis diamond and two tapered baguette diamonds. The ring is valued at $53,750.

Lamont Jordan signed..
Looks like the Pats are looking for some insurance in case anyone gets hurt again this year. With Sammy Morris injured last year, Maroney injured off and on his entire career, and the suppporting cast trying to make up the difference --- I leave Kevin Faulk out because he is a Jack of all trades and is too versatile to list as just your run of the mill running back -- I believe the Pats are looking to secure their backfield. Jordan was a decent enough back-up for the Jets but never really made a splash with the Raiders ... Here's to hoping the Pats eke out whatever life he has left in those legs of his. Maybe they'll use him more along the fullback lines and have him blow through the line for Faulk, Maroney, or Morris. Orrrr they could cut him at the end of camp. Who knows what the evil genius is up to....
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/football/story/2008/07/26/patriots-jordan.html
"The New England Patriots signed veteran running back LaMont Jordan on Saturday, a day after he was released by the Oakland Raiders.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Raiders were unable to trade Jordan and released him Friday."
A little confused
"Under orders from Roger Goodell to resolve their impasse with Brett Favre, the Green Bay Packers have begun making calls about their former franchise QB, according to online reports.
Goodell talked to Packers GM Ted Thompson, who confirmed the team was ready to move on without Favre. Goodell asked Thompson to begin exploring the market for the disgruntled QB, acccording to WEAU 13, an NBC television affiliate in Wisconsin.
The report also says Goodell told Thompson that he will reinstate Favre as an active player, should he make the request and that the commissioner has also spoken to Favre and promised his assistance."
What right does Goodell have in telling a team how to handle a contract issue?? I do not understand where Goodell can actually order a team to resolve an issue that basically comes down to wanting to be traded...
What's next?? A player wants more money and Goodell orders the team to honor his request??
PRICELESS!!!

Specter drops "probe"
"Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., who threatened a congressional inquiry into the way the National Football League handled its "Spygate" investigation of the New England Patriots' videotaping practices, said he will not seek hearings on the matter, the Philadelphia Daily News reported.......Specter said he didn't seek a hearing on Spygate before the Judiciary Committee because the committee already has "too much to do," the Daily News reported. "
This guy is just another blowhard who uses his political leverage to try and get things done when they do not benefit him....the last sentence in the article is what gets me. For someone so hell bent on making sports a fair and balanced game and then posturing in the national media, his stance on the basketball allegations is somewhat confusing...
"As for other sports scandals, Specter said he's "not interested" in recent allegations made by former NBA referee Tim Donaghy claiming that the league influenced referees as to the outcome of playoff games."

Spector
Senator ( and I use that term loosely) Spector wants a "Mitchell-like" investigation into the Patriots videotaping debacle. This, after Goodell announced that he is satisfied with the punishment doled out earlier in the season and that nothing new was revealed on the tapes presented to him by Walsh...

NFL Battling Comcast
I used to have the NFL network, I watched it constantly, during the season and the off season, I'd sit there for hours and watch show after show -- and then they put it on a higher tier. That really pissed me off, so I decided not to jump up to the next tier -- now it seems Comcast decided to play hardball with the NFL because they wouldn't sell x amount of games to them. Talk about screwing over your customers.
"Tagliabue’s one-page declaration is an exhibit in the league’s filing, which contends that Comcast, the nation’s largest cable operator, is discriminating against the NFL Network. He said that Brian Roberts, Comcast’s chief executive, warned him on Jan. 27, 2006, that, having decided not to sell the eight-game package to Versus, “Your relationships with the cable industry are going to get very interesting.”
In Tagliabue’s view, Roberts’s statement “foreshadowed Comcast’s retaliation” later that year to relegate the NFL Network to the sports tier, which requires an extra fee"

Wonder if Spector will investigate this??
Another thing...
I usually don't promote stuff but this is a pretty cool thing..
MLB.com offers 1 million dollars to anyone who can break MLB's hitting streak --
You can select a player a day to get a hit(the same or different one) and then begin your streak..if the player you select gets a hit your streak begins..if not then you start anew...
the longest streak went 49 games..no one has done it since 2001..

Just thought it was pretty cool..plus it kills time during a boring day...
Sporting News Cover
Has anyone seen this??
You all know I am a Pats Fan (insert insults here)
but when I saw the March cover of this magazine I had to shake my head in dismay --The headline reads --"Losing -How we all cope with coming out on the short end" and then there is a picture of Reggie Wayne with his knees on the ground and head to the turf ---WHY??
Why not a player from an actual LOSING team?? Why not a player from a team that doesn't consistently make the playoffs,or a team that doesn't have a great quarterback? To put Reggie Wayne on the cover entitled LOSING is kinda ridiculous...It's like titling the cover BAD QUARTERBACKs and then showing Manning, Brady, Favre, Aikman, and Montanna in a group hug....Just seems a little ridiculous to me. If they were doing an in depth story about how players cope with losing, then why not cover it with one of the Pats after the SB --that loss alone sums up the feeling of losing it all.....
Sorry -- I haven't posted anything in a while, and even though the Colts are far from my favorites I respect the players who make up a great team...not a losing one...
Finally !!!!!!!!!!!!
BOSTON (AP) -- Randy Moss is staying with the New England Patriots. The defending AFC champions re-signed the record-breaking receiver on Monday to a three-year deal worth $27 million, his agent said. The signing was confirmed by the team shortly after Moss posted a message to fans on his Web site.
''I want to take time out to thank all of the fans for their support and for wishing me well in my return to New England,'' therealrandymoss.com quotes him as saying. ''I'm ready to get back. We have some unfinished business to take care of.''
Moss' agent, Tim DiPiero, said the deal included guarantees of $15 million, including a $12 million signing bonus to the receiver who set an NFL record with 23 touchdown catches and helped the Patriots reach the Super Bowl in his first season with the team.
''Randy was serious about wanting to stay,'' DiPiero wrote in an e-mail. ''Because of Randy's record-breaking year, the interest in him was very high. Randy took less than he could have to rejoin his teammates.''
Pairing Moss with NFL MVP Tom Brady, who broke the league record with 50 touchdown passes, the Patriots breezed through the regular season with a perfect 16-0 record. They improved to an unprecedented 18-0 before blowing a chance at the league's longest unbeaten season with a 17-14 Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants.
''What Randy did for our team last year was outstanding,'' Patriots coach Bill Belichick said in a statement. ''He is one of our most consistent, competitive and team-oriented players and it is undoubtedly a relationship we are excited to continue.''
Jason Taylor
Taylor and the Dolphins have supposedly agreed to part ways.
http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/440988.html
Wouldn't it be great if we got this defensive animal. He has already expressed interest in going to a winning team and he is only two yrs past being voted Defensive player of the Year..
"Taylor enjoyed the best year of his career in 2006 when he recorded 13.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 2 interceptions (both of which were returned for touchdowns), which helped him being declared as the 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year."
He still has a couple of years left and I think the Pats could benefit from his experience and veteran presence.
Just wishfully thinking.
Belichick has been taping since 2000, Goodell tells Specter
WASHINGTON -- Bill Belichick has been illegally taping opponents' defensive signals since he became the New England Patriots' coach in 2000, according to Sen. Arlen Specter, who said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told him that during a meeting Wednesday.
"There was confirmation that there has been taping since 2000, when Coach Belichick took over," Specter said.
Specter said Goodell gave him that information during the 1-hour, 40-minute meeting, which was requested by Specter so the commissioner could explain his reasons for destroying the Spygate tapes and notes.
.....more
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d806ab830&template=with-video&confirm=true
Ok. What do you think? Probably not the only team that has done it, but the only one that has been caught in the act.
On a side note, doesn't this seem like an abuse of power by Spectre? Didn't he threaten the league a couple yrs back with the same antitrust investigation when the Eagles benched Terrell Owens , whom he thought was being treated unfairly by the team?
If anyone watched the Clemens "trial" yesterday one Representative said it correctly, stating, " ...I believe we have gotten away from what this committee is supposed to be doing, we are supposed to be investigating the proliferation of illegal drugs, not trying to prove who is lying..." also, one also said that "...this is not the function of this committee, we make laws, we do not investigate or prosecute them..."
Good to see my tax money being spent wisely when I live in a city where drugs and gang violence are once again becoming an everyday occurence -- thanks guys, way to protect your consstituents by going after multi millionaires instead of pumping up local and federal law enforcement to stem the tide of the real drug problems in America....
Senator Specter
OK. Is it me or is this getting ridiculous? Doesn't the House and Senate have enough on their plate already?? Unemployment. Inflation. War. National Debt. Crime. Poverty. Etc..Buuuuuuut, no! Let's focus on the NFL.
Specter Invites Goodell to Congress
February 1, 2008
NEW YORK (TICKER) -- Once Congress is done meeting with Major League Baseball, it will be time for the National Football League to take its turn.
According to a report in Friday's New York Times, Senator Arlen Specter, the ranking Republican member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, will eventually call NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in front of the committee to address the destruction of evidence related to spying by the New England Patriots.
In the well publicized 'Spygate' saga, the Patriots violated NFL rules by filming the New York Jets' defensive signals during their Week One matchup at Gillette Stadium.
After reviewing the evidence, Goodell fined New England coach Bill Belichick $500,000. The Patriots organization was fined an additional $250,000 and was forced to forfeit a first-round pick in the 2008 NFL draft.
Following the penalties, the NFL announced that it had destroyed the tapes.
Now, Specter is calling Goodell in front of the committee to explain why he destroyed the tapes that revealed spying by the Patriots as well as to discuss the league's antitrust exemption in relation to its television contract, the article states.
"That requires an explanation," Specter told the newspaper. "The NFL has a very preferred status in our country with their antitrust exemption. The American people are entitled to be sure about the integrity of the game. It's analogous to the CIA destruction of tapes. Or any time you have records destroyed."
While Specter told the New York Times that he was not sure when Goodell could be expected to be in front of the committee, he did say that he wrote the commissioner regarding the tapes on November 15. After a month with no response, Specter wrote to Goodell again.
The league responded to Specter late Thursday afternoon, telling the Senator from Pennsylvania that they had not received the letter until late last week. Specter told the newspaper that the league had told his office last week that it would not respond until after the Super Bowl.
Cut the shit....the CIA destroys videotaped interrogations and all is well in the world..the NFL destroys videotape of someone taping HAND SIGNALS and there is a federal inquest. Whether you like the Patriots or not you can't agree with what these politicians are doing with the time they have to try and right a sinking nation....
Mercury Morris
Did anyone hear this guy on WEEI last night on The Big Show??? Somebody asked him if he could consider the possible 19-0 record as making the Pats the best ever and he said it's not the 19 games that count , just the 0. Basically saying the 2 extra games played during the season meant nothing since the dolphins also went undefeated. And then he actually said that the Pats were running up the score and that's not how "old school" football was played. Saying the Pats should've stopped throwing the ball because the air attack was killing opponents. Glen then asked him why the Dolphins didn't stop running the ball against opponents when they were up -- the Dolphins ran the ball 80% of the time because their QB sucked -- and he had no answer. Just kept saying Come on. Come on.
This guy really needs to accept the fact that his neighborhood has been crushed by the Godzilla that is the Patriots...he really bothers me. Popping champagne, the whole neighborhood thing, just shut up already.
Place your bets...it has been foreseen
Orangutan Likes Patriots In Super Bowl
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Another football expert has weighed in on the upcoming Super Bowl.
Amber, the Louisville Zoo's 20-year-old orangutan, predicts the New England Patriots will prevail against the New York Giants this Sunday.
Amber was given a choice between Patriots and Giants t-shirts. She first grabbed the Giants shirt, but then grabbed the Patriots shirt. After going back and forth between the two, she finally chose the Pats shirt and put it on.
The t-shirt prediction was part of Amber's animal enrichment program.
"Animal enrichment is an important aspect of animal management at the Louisville Zoo," said Animal Training Supervisor Jane Anne Franklin. "Amber and other animals at the zoo are given regular enrichment that provides them with mental and physical stimulation."
Franklin said playing with T-shirts and other items of clothing is one of Amber's favorite activities.
"When she is given a shirt, she often likes to take it and rub it across her face and feel the texture before she puts it on. Oh, and she really likes handbags," she laughed. "If she had to choose between two handbags that might have been hard for her, because I bet she would have carried both of them around and not let them out of her sight."
Franklin said that Amber might make more predictions in the future.
"It's just something fun for her," Franklin said. "And she enjoys all the attention."
Funny
A friend of mine just emailed this to me...
Tom Brady, Tony Romo, and Peyton Manning go to Heaven.
God asks Tom Brady first: "What do you believe?" Brady thinks long and hard, looks God in the eye, and says, "I believe in hard work, and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I always try to do right by my fans."
God can't help but see the essential goodness of Brady, and offers him a seat to his left.
Then God turns to Tony Romo and says, "What do you believe?" Tony says, "I believe passion, discipline, courage and honor are the fundamentals of life. I've always tried to be a true sportsman, both on and off the playing field."
God is greatly moved by Tony's sincere eloquence, and offers him a seat
to his right.
Finally, God turns to Peyton Manning: "And you, Peyton, what do you believe?"
Peyton replies, "I believe you're in my seat."
re:Sore Winners
If this was heard in Gillette Stadium, Polian would've started a 2nd Inquisition into the sounds origins and the national media would be having a field day.
I believe the Colts are a great team, I also believe the Pats are a great team....The owners should stay out of it, but Polian has had a chip on his shoulder after losing 3 straight Super Bowls in Buffalo --
sooo in regards to cry babies --call Polian and interview him, he's the expert...
"Bill Belichick has decided that if he can't beat him then he will defeat him. The despicable and cheating Bill Polian was so distraught at the Pats complete defeat of his soft Colts 4 years ago, that he did the only thing he could, he cheated. He abused his role on the Competition Committee to change the rules of the game to not only suite his team, but hurt the Pats.
The Colts play the Tampa Two Defense, a heavy zone scheme. The Safeties and Corner retreat to a specific area they are to defend. They play Off-Man. They make no attempt to impede the progress of the WR, and rarely put their hands on the WR. The Pats mix up their coverages, but mostly use aggress Press Coverage whenever possible to disrupt what the WR is trying to do. They Jam, chuck, and physical the WRs to death.
The Colts WRs are led by the strange and small Marvin Harrison, who can be defeated physically, as Ty Law showed four years ago. As long as the Pats DBs could manhandle Polian's finesse WRs they would be consistently defeated.
So what does Polian do, does he draft tougher WRs and Corners like the Pats, no he cheats. He weasels, whines, and manipulates the Competition Committee to completely change how Pass Defense is played in the NFL. You can no longer touch poor little Marvin or you be sent to your room. He also had two other rule changes that year that related directly to Patriots victories.
The fact that Bill Polian is still on the Completion Committee is a crime against football. Remember when Vader-chock missed the game Winning Field Goal against the Pats in 2004, as Mike Vrabel was calling Time Out. Well, according to the despicable BP, it wasn't poor little Vander-chocks fault he missed the FG, it mean Mister Vrabel's fault for knowing how to use the rules. After you called TO, you are not allowed a second TO in a row, so the referees were instructed to ignore a player calling a TO immediately after his team had just called a TO. So Vrabel was able to distract Vander-choke enough for him to miss. Well, Polian made sure that act of strategy was now a Fifteen Yard Penalty, he called it unfair, unjust, and cheating. He called it a kettle.
So now when a TO has been called and a player is trying to get a second straight TO, it is an Unsportsmen-Like Penalty. And the despicable Polian didn't even pretend, he had that rule put into effect two weeks after Vader-choke missed that FG. He actually changed the rules during the season because his team lost a big game, and nobody in the NFL said anything? I have never seen a rule change put into effect during the NFL season, criminal. And if you think I'm full of crap, just look at all the rule changes the Competition Committee has made since Ty Law caught more passes thrown by Payton Manning then Marvin Harrison in the 2003 NFL Playoff game.
Okay, so what does BB do, now that Polian has manipulated the rules to the point where his Offense and Defense benefits the most by all the rule changes (or do you think it was a coincidence that two Tampa Two defense where in the Super Bowl this year), does he cheat? No, he out thinks the despicable BP again.
He trades for the tiny and ultra-illusive Wes Welker. He signs Free Agent Dante Stallworth. Stallworth has that scary speed that panics defenses. Welker has that special quickness, like Troy Brown, that devastates defenses in the slot. If you cannot put your hands on these guys, you cannot cover them. If you cannot disrupt their patterns, they will defeat you. They are both small, smart, and vulnerable to the double team and physical play, which now of course you cannot do. Hey Polian, Zone-this.
Okay so BB outsmarts BP again, and then in an act of pure revenge he Pimp-Slaps Polian right upside his head. BB just picks up the phone and says "Yo Al, I got an offer you can't refuse, how `bout you give me Moss for a Forth?" Al says, "Ah... Okay... (I'm hearing Butthead's voice when I am writing this;-) Well, BP sure looks like cheating by to me;-)
In the new Pussy-fied Polian NFL, who is going to cover these guys? With Moss and Stallworth on the outside, Welker in the slot, and oh yeah, Ben Watson running the seam, who is going to cover these guys?"
