Carpenter AFC Special Team Player of the Week
Congrats Dan! Well deserved!
Grove available to play vs. Bills?
In ESPN's AFC East blog, Tim Graham says Grove and Soliai are hurt but could play. Speculation? Hope it's true!

Noodle Duck Update
``I was enjoying the purity and simplicity of the game, period.'' CP10...here's a weekend update I found on a couple of our Miami Dolphin QB's.

Vonnie watch
Tomorrow (March 3rd) it will be interesting to see if the FO keeps Vonnie Holliday or releases him as he is due a $1.5M roster bonus. As Matty so well described in his post(s) on the subject, the choice to keep one of the team captains' veteran leadership on the field and in the locker room comes with a notable price tag.
Seeing how the team's approach to this year's free agency has progressed so far, it doesn't seem there is an urgent need to free cap space by dumping salaries. Also, with the apparent strategy to build through the draft, veteran leadership is a valued commodity. I personally am hopeful the Dolphins FO keeps a valuable team leader in Vonnie and sends a message to the rest of the team that there is loyalty in this family.
Jake's going to the Pro Bowl
http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/football/story/863857.html
Congratulations Jake! I thought he handled all of the expectations and tough competitive challenges like a true pro all season...not like a rookie at all. We have a lot to look forward to in the future of this high quality player and person.
It's indeed good to know that if he stays healthy, that the LT position is well manned for years to come.
Ferguson possibly out against Buffalo?
I gues it is time for the youngsters to get coached up, and take the lead.

Roy Williams...interested?
From SI.com ( http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/71631 ). Seems the new GM in Detroit is claiming WR Roy Williams is not being shopped around...BUT the Lions will listen. I'm curious if you think the Dolphins should be players if indeed there is a deal to be had...and if so...what would you be willing to offer?
Recently, I've read (and concur with) the opinion that next season will be phase 2 of the rebuilding process and it will focus more on the skill positions. I believe our cap space would not be a hinderance for affording a proven (possibly elite) receiver. To me the issue is what the Phins FO would be willing to offer to make a deal with a new Lions GM trying to make his mark.
What are your thoughts?
Evaluating Talent
It seems to me we have a crew who knows from day 1...who's an upgrade, who's a solid player, and who's a downgrade. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp08/news/story?id=3554915

TE's
This blurb from PFW regarding Dolphin's plans for using double TE formations with apparent regularity adds to the already bold question mark I had with the TE postion.
http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/AFC/AFC+East/Miami/WWHI/2008/wwhi071208.htm
I'd guess the FO will be keenly watching the TE waiver wire doubly hard as teams get to 80 players on the way to training camp. If the TE position a 'block first-catch second' mentality, as this article suggests, is considered core to the success of the base O-line, then that also adds some more pressure on the #1 and #2 receivers and RBs to represent any aerial attack.
In my opinion, it is hard to see a balanced offensive attack with a 2 TE base...and also implies the FB position is nearly non-existent excpept for short yardage situations.
Whew...75 words...back to the main point of the post...we need 2 TE's.
Battle of the Wounded
From my quick check of recent news on the Dodgers...
Furcal - DL (love him...but happy to miss him this time around)
Andruw - returned (bad for Dodgers at the plate, bad for us at the plate)
Jeff Kent - 15-DL (calling Willie Aybar)
Brett Tomko - rehab assignment
Does anyone one know of any other significant Dogder-related roster news?
Since I have to have 75 words...sigh...I am hoping yesterdays marathon game A) didn't suck the life out of Chipper and McCann; B) Escobar's shoulder handles the long flight; C) the victory sparked our Braves for a mini-run going into the break.
TE Battle
Interesting blurb in PFW regarding David Martin... "TE David Martin may have started for the Dolphins in 2007, but word out of South Florida is that he’ll have to fight to merely keep a roster spot in training camp. Newcomers Anthony Fasano and Sean Ryan and holdover Justin Peelle could end up being the team’s TE corps."
IMO, solid contributions from the TE and occasional Fullback positions will be difference makers with both supporting a youngish line, and youngish QB's in pass protection, and to allow the studs (Ronnie and Ricky) to do their thing. Also adding reliable hands to a youngish group of receivers.

Down the road a bit
An interesting piece on newly approved partial owner of the Dolphins, Stephen Ross.
http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/The+Way+We+Hear+It/default.htm
"Dolphins' front office, coaching staff won't be affected by Ross
With real-estate mogul Stephen Ross set to take over as the primary owner of the Dolphins after being unanimously confirmed at the league meetings, don't expect major changes to be made in the way the operation runs. Ross is a lifelong Dolphins fan, but we hear that he doesn't want to meddle with the new regime -- specifically, executive VP of football operations Bill Parcells, GM Jeff Ireland and head coach Tony Sparano. Current owner Wayne Huizenga will remain as controlling officer for the coming season, but Ross is expected to assume the role as soon as 2009. "Everyone should feel secure in their jobs," a team source said. "He's not coming in here to make sweeping changes or anything." One thing that Ross does come equipped with is a deep set of pockets. Worth $4.5 billion, according to Forbes magazine as of September 2007, Ross will be the second-wealthiest owner in the league, trailing only the Seahawks' Paul Allen, who's valued at $16.8 billion. What does this mean? Not much, for now. But should the 2010 season commence as an uncapped year, which will happen if the owners opt out of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement in November and fail to come to terms with the players' union on a new CBA, the Dolphins could be attracting boatloads of elite talent."
After rebuilding these next 2 seasons, the 2010 season could potentially be the year we are looking for just a few 'elite' players...and the deeper pockets can't hurt.
PFW Article on Top 10
An interesting scenario considered in the article where Dorsey is still in the top 10 despite injury worries, and McFadden free falls to JJ and the 'Boys. I can't buy it, particularly Dorsey, that's a lot of money to drop on a player who may need an extended time to rehab properly.

Chiefs?
This according to PFW
http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/The+Way+We+Hear+It/Whispers/2007/whispers020208.htm
"Speaking of Croyle, enough uncertainty about his potential in the NFL remains that there are rumblings in Kansas City that suggest it may be difficult for the Chiefs, even with more pressing needs on the offensive line and at wide receiver and cornerback, to pass on a franchise passer like Boston College's Matt Ryan when they select either fourth or fifth overall in April, if he's still available. Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt didn't exactly dispel those rumors recently. "Whether it's this year or another year, if we have a shot at somebody we think can be a franchise quarterback, I would expect us to take him," Hunt said. "That presumes we don't already have one on the roster, and right now, I don't think we know that.""
They have the 5th pick...but dealing with them has been has been a pain. Maybe Parland could bring different deal making mojo than Meuller did with them.
