Tomorrow (March 3rd) it will be interesting to see if the FO keeps Vonnie Holliday or releases him as he is due a $1.5M roster bonus. As Matty so well described in his post(s) on the subject, the choice to keep one of the team captains' veteran leadership on the field and in the locker room comes with a notable price tag.

Seeing how the team's approach to this year's free agency has progressed so far, it doesn't seem there is an urgent need to free cap space by dumping salaries. Also, with the apparent strategy to build through the draft, veteran leadership is a valued commodity. I personally am hopeful the Dolphins FO keeps a valuable team leader in Vonnie and sends a message to the rest of the team that there is loyalty in this family.

Congratulations Jake! I thought he handled all of the expectations and tough competitive challenges like a true pro all season...not like a rookie at all. We have a lot to look forward to in the future of this high quality player and person.

It's indeed good to know that if he stays healthy, that the LT position is well manned for years to come.

Roy Williams...interested?

From SI.com ( http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/71631 ). Seems the new GM in Detroit is claiming WR Roy Williams is not being shopped around...BUT the Lions will listen. I'm curious if you think the Dolphins should be players if indeed there is a deal to be had...and if so...what would you be willing to offer?

Recently, I've read (and concur with) the opinion that next season will be phase 2 of the rebuilding process and it will focus more on the skill positions. I believe our cap space would not be a hinderance for affording a proven (possibly elite) receiver. To me the issue is what the Phins FO would be willing to offer to make a deal with a new Lions GM trying to make his mark.

What are your thoughts?

TE's

This blurb from PFW regarding Dolphin's plans for using double TE formations with apparent regularity adds to the already bold question mark I had with the TE postion.

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/AFC/AFC+East/Miami/WWHI/2008/wwhi071208.htm

I'd guess the FO will be keenly watching the TE waiver wire doubly hard as teams get to 80 players on the way to training camp. If the TE position a 'block first-catch second' mentality, as this article suggests, is considered core to the success of the base O-line, then that also adds some more pressure on the #1 and #2 receivers and RBs to represent any aerial attack.

In my opinion, it is hard to see a balanced offensive attack with a 2 TE base...and also implies the FB position is nearly non-existent excpept for short yardage situations.

Whew...75 words...back to the main point of the post...we need 2 TE's.
