Roy Williams...interested?

From SI.com ( http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/71631 ). Seems the new GM in Detroit is claiming WR Roy Williams is not being shopped around...BUT the Lions will listen. I'm curious if you think the Dolphins should be players if indeed there is a deal to be had...and if so...what would you be willing to offer?

Recently, I've read (and concur with) the opinion that next season will be phase 2 of the rebuilding process and it will focus more on the skill positions. I believe our cap space would not be a hinderance for affording a proven (possibly elite) receiver. To me the issue is what the Phins FO would be willing to offer to make a deal with a new Lions GM trying to make his mark.

What are your thoughts?

TE's

This blurb from PFW regarding Dolphin's plans for using double TE formations with apparent regularity adds to the already bold question mark I had with the TE postion.

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/AFC/AFC+East/Miami/WWHI/2008/wwhi071208.htm

I'd guess the FO will be keenly watching the TE waiver wire doubly hard as teams get to 80 players on the way to training camp. If the TE position a 'block first-catch second' mentality, as this article suggests, is considered core to the success of the base O-line, then that also adds some more pressure on the #1 and #2 receivers and RBs to represent any aerial attack.

In my opinion, it is hard to see a balanced offensive attack with a 2 TE base...and also implies the FB position is nearly non-existent excpept for short yardage situations.

Whew...75 words...back to the main point of the post...we need 2 TE's.

From my quick check of recent news on the Dodgers...

Furcal - DL (love him...but happy to miss him this time around)

Andruw - returned (bad for Dodgers at the plate, bad for us at the plate)

Jeff Kent - 15-DL (calling Willie Aybar)

Brett Tomko - rehab assignment

Does anyone one know of any other significant Dogder-related roster news?

Since I have to have 75 words...sigh...I am hoping yesterdays marathon game A) didn't suck the life out of Chipper and McCann; B) Escobar's shoulder handles the long flight; C) the victory sparked our Braves for a mini-run going into the break.

Interesting blurb in PFW regarding David Martin... "TE David Martin may have started for the Dolphins in 2007, but word out of South Florida is that he’ll have to fight to merely keep a roster spot in training camp. Newcomers Anthony Fasano and Sean Ryan and holdover Justin Peelle could end up being the team’s TE corps."

IMO, solid contributions from the TE and occasional Fullback positions will be difference makers with both supporting a youngish line, and youngish QB's in pass protection, and to allow the studs (Ronnie and Ricky) to do their thing. Also adding reliable hands to a youngish group of receivers.
