Big Nog Weighs in Upcoming TUF, Brock vs JDS and Strikeforce’s GP (via: PVT) Regarding TUF and JDS vs Lesnar: TUF is going to be important to showcase Brazilian MMA in the US, show them how we train united. I showed them that when I was TUF coach and Cigano will show the same. We’ll be going to visit him, me and Anderson, but Cigano is a guy who already knows how to teach, he already teaches. He’ll know how to show the techniques and show why he’s one of the best in the world. As for Lesnar, he doesn’t kick, so Cigano will not need to train too much defensive Muay Thai, as he was training for Cain, he can now rely more on training offensive Muay Thai. And this is the type of fight where he’ll look for the KO, train a lot of wrestling, train the guard because he could end up falling underneath (Lesnar), even though Lesnar’s GnP is not as good as Cain’s. But (Cigano) will look for the KO in this fight. Regarding Strikeforce’s HW GP: I think Big Foot, Fedor and Barnett will be the favorites for the GP. The fight between Fedor and Big Foot could be an anticipated final. (Big Foot) has good wrestling, he’s tough, and he’ll be the biggest challenge to Fedor in this GP. Regarding SF supposedly having the best HW’s: I do not agree, I think the best are in the UFC. Strikeforce has a lot of tough guys, we’ll have big fights in this GP, but the UFC is still more complicated. This Fan Shot was promoted to the front page by Nick Thomas.

According to Tatame, José Aldo will be going to Haiti for a humanitarian mission. Paulo Thiago: Kill or Be Killed via Tatame "I messed up (in my fight with Diego Sanchez). I was winning the first round, up until the half of the second round, but he was able to take me down and I got tired. I messed up during the weight cutting, losing weight right on the last minute. It was not a good result, but because it was Fight of the Night I’ll be getting another chance" (laughs). "I’m waiting to see who I’ll fight next, I think this will be my last chance. Now it’s either kill or be killed. If I win I stay, if I lose I’m out". This Fan Shot was promoted to the front page by Nick Thomas. UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez coverage

Nogueira Brothers to Launch Online Game (via Tatame) There will be no fees to play the game, but there will be options to buy real products. The game programmers claim the format is simple, easy and will attract those who enjoy social network sites. Each player starts out by creating their own fighter by selecting skin color, hair, clothes and weight. After this process, they’ll need to invest in training to improve as a fighter and/or challenge other fighters. Their physical preparations will gain them points and in fights, those with more training time will always win. The game is set in an urban style with various options of academies to choose from, in various styles of martial arts. Players can also invite other people to watch the fights, replay old fights and compare their skills to other fighters. There will also be a ranking system in place. The game will launch on March 27th, 2011 on this site. UFC 128 coverage

Shogun's Trainer Gets Shot After one of his training sessions for his next fight at K-1 MAX, André Dida, along with his brother Maurírio Veio, were getting a ride by one of their students in Canada. When they were getting inside the car a shoot-out took place outside the academy, Dida and one of his students ended up being shot. The bullet scratched behind Dida’s head, opening a cut and needing ten stitches to close it up. In only three days, Dida went back to training for his bout against Hinata on the 8th of November: "For all of those who roots for me, don’t worry because I am well trained and will give my all to represent Brazil and all of those who roots for me. What happened did not affect my goal, only made me stronger. I thank God for being alive and for letting me continue my path" Dida concluded. via PVT

Paulo Thiago looking to come out more agressive against Diego Sanchez "I am coming from a fight in which I learned a lot. I always say I learn more from the losses than the victories. What happened [in my last fight] was a lack of attitude from me. He came out more aggressive, got the points, and at the end it was hard [to rebound]" "I will be going forward right away. I will be aggressive as soon as the fight starts, even more so since this seems to be one of Diengo’s attribute, he always speeds up the fight. Should this fight be fast paced, I am well conditioned, for sure, this time it will be [fast paced]" "This weight class has a lot of top fighters. Jake [Shields] just got here, even though he’s coming from another promotion he’s got some hype. There’s the champion, GSP, Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch… Unfortunately I stepped backwards with my loss, but I’m coming back to get all of these guys" via UOL

On the PEDs allegation against Chael Sonnen: Actually, when the news came out I… I didn’t notice [during the fight], I couldn’t tell [he was on something]. It’s sad for the sport, I think it was an unsportsmanlike attitude. But the commissions will take care of this and I hope this serves as an example to other athletes as well. When asked if Chael was his toughest fight, he neglected: No, my toughest fight in my career was against Hayato Sakurai in Shooto, my second toughest fight in my career was against Rich Franklin, it was a difficult fight for me. He’s a smart fighter, he knows the correct moments to throw the strikes and where they are effective. On the future of his weight class: There are many great fighters in my weight class, in my opinion, Nathan [Marquardt] will be the next champion in my weight class. Demian [Maia] is also working his way up and could become champion in this weight class. Palhares is also maturing a lot with his past few fights. But in my opinion, Nathan [Marquardt] will be the next champion in this weight class. On why he will not be fighting at LHW anymore: Last time I spoke to Dana, he told me that the only way I’d fight at LHW again is if I was to move to LHW permanently, only fighting there. So for me, those who saw [me fighting at LHW], saw me, those who didn’t won’t get another chance to see that anymore. OH SNAP!!! PVT Radio recently interviewed Anderson’s main trainer, Diogenes Assahida, who hints that The Spider has been lacking motivation for his past few fights. Diogenes - In each training session, we find a mistake or a flaw, we have positive and negative perspectives. I’m very systematic, I complain a lot, I want more strength and I want more energy, but I have tried to keep myself in check because we have felt that Anderson is tired, that’s the reality, you know, this is not an excuse and I’m not trying to defend him, but it’s the truth. Host - And do you think this will cross over to his next few fights, Diogenes? Do you think you can try to improve this problem of his, the motivation and the fatigue? Diogenes - Correct, you used the correct word there in the right context, it's motivation. The motive for what you do or fail to do. At a certain point It becomes tiresome for you to go training and leave your family aside, and repeat [each day], its reality. I mean, how many times has Anderson defended his title? At a certain point you hit the brakes. I don’t know, I get worried, I have already made comments [with the team], we have already talked about this and I worry. As trainers, when we pressure [the athlete] too much it can have the opposite effect of discouragement sometimes. Today, I am trying to work more on the psychological side of things. Host - But are there other ways? The guy is defending his belt and winning. He either asks Dana White for six months to a year off for vacation because his mind game isn’t there, or there’s no way out, he’ll have to live with this pressure because it’s his job, right? Each fighter has their own pressure, right? Diogenes - For sure, it’s part of the game, it’s indisputable, we already talked about this. Sometimes he’ll say "ok, I’m not going to [train] anymore" on a given day, he does that. But I have to do my job, as long as there is a fight scheduled I have to do my job. Host - do you think this time off will be good for him? Do you think now that he’s taking time off to recover from the rib injury will be enough to get the fatigue out of him until his next fight which is schedule for January? Diogenes - This break is good enough to relax and get some rest and get hungry and get motivated again. But then again, it could have a negative effect as well because it’s just too much time off resting. I’m going to be honest with you, it’s going to be a "surprise box" (closest translation should be "not really knowing what to expect"). But let me tell you something, the guy is tough, the guy is champion [material]. He proved it there, inside [the octagon]… to me… in that fight, he wasn’t strong, he was champion. I’ll tell you something, many others would have given up during that fight. The guy is champion [material]. So I think we’ll come back in full force, we’ll come back energized, we’ll come back motivated, I’ll be talking to him this week, so you know… we’ll be ready for the next [fight].

Anderson becomes a kid again Just for fun, Anderson participating in a humor show called Formigueiro (09/19/10). Anderson seems genuinely amazed by the dry sand, always good to see the human side of a fighter, specially one in the caliber of Anderson Silva. Anderson will appear on TV on September 22, not sure if he'll talk about the PED charges against Chael Sonnen, if he does I'll keep you guys posted.

Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua talks about his knee, Rashad Evans and Anderson Silva with Cris Lyra from UFC Sem Limites: On his next fight: "No, nothing has been confirmed yet [regarding a fight with Rashad Evans]. I had a meeting with Lorenzo and Dana in the US last month. My goal is to come back fighting in February [2011], but there is no date defined yet, and much less an opponent. I’m going back to the US next month for a doctor’s appointment, my knee is 100% and with the doctor clearing me that’s when we’ll start planning our next fight" On Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen: "I thought it was a great fight, Sonnen was able to neutralize Anderson’s game, and Anderson showed heart, showed [that he is] a warrior, and showed the spirit of a champion. It was really a tough fight, Sonnen is a great wrestler, he was a two time wrestling champion, so I think he’s one of the biggest representative of wrestling in MMA, and certainly Anderson has a lot of heart in not giving up earlier [in the fight]." Ricardo Arona: One Win Away from UFC Status "I spoke to Dana White, he was very amicable, every fighter in the UFC were very amicable towards me. They were all asking if I was going to fight for the UFC and all. And Dana told me that it would be interesting for me to compete in one more fight before competing in the UFC, so that I wouldn’t stay inactive and also so that they could analyze my performance as well. I thought that was fair in one way and not fair in another. For one, I think I can come back with everything because I know what I’m capable of doing inside [the octagon]. But if this is a formality and something determined by the promotion, I see nothing wrong with it. I have lots of options right now, I received calls from Abu Dhabi and also from many other countries that are organizing important promotions and I think that’s great, I see nothing wrong with it. From what I’ve seen in this weight class from the champions, what I have to say is that without a doubt, once I get there I will get the belt" -- Ricardo Arona went on to say that he’s been inactive because he was recovering from a surgery he underwent for injuries he received during the Marvin Eastman fight in December of last year (meniscus and ACL injury) and that he expects to be cleared to fight by December. If I touch him, he goes down, he won’t stay up[...] if I touch him like Sonnen did or like Demian did… I have more power than they do[...] he knows this, if my hands touches him he will not stay standing.
