Junior Dos Santos breaks down Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez: "In my opinion, If it ends in the first round Lesnar takes it, if it ends after the first round I think Cain takes it. Brock is that big heavyweight, very dangerous, if he’s on top it’s very hard for you to escape. He’s very strong and very heavy and has good wrestling as well. He’s got heavy hands, it would be a very tough fight for me for sure, he’s a very dangerous guy. The strategy would be similar to mine against Roy Nelson, not to land on my back, because it’s not a good thing to be underneath a guy that weighs around 130 kilos. As for Cain Velasquez, I think he’s the best conditioned heavyweight out there, his cardio is very good. He’s very technical too, has excellent wrestling, has shown great abilities in striking as well, he kicks well, punches well. We haven’t seem much from his ground game, but I think he’s more technical from other heavyweights, fast and a very good gas tank. So they are a bit different, but basically it’s strength against speed" via: Blog Sensei This Fan Shot was promoted to the front page by Nick Thomas. UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez coverage

Anderson Silva's phone call to SporTV's Sensei after the fight On the fight: "The big message coming out of this is that we can never give up, it doesn’t matter the size of the problem, it doesn’t matter the difficulty [of the situation], we can never give up. I think this [fight] showed everyone that Anderson is not invincible, that Anderson is human, that Anderson is there just like any other human being, that Anderson is not made of steel, that Anderson is made of flesh and bones and that he’s learning and improving each day. This is what I am made of. I am made of a lot of heart, of a lot of battles. I think that all that I have gone through in life to get where I am today there were lots of battles, lots of difficult moments such as the one that I went through today. There were a lot of hard training sessions, there were a lot of moments that I thought about quitting in my life, [moments] that I didn’t shine through. So I think that’s that, it’s about overcoming, it’s about determining what you are going to do and do it well" Regarding the injury: "I think it was around four to three weeks before the fight that I hurt my ribs. I was training with a friend of ours that came from Japan, a friend of Lyoto that, when I did a certain movement, I ended up hurting and cracking my ribs. I went to the doctor, Ed [Soares] took me to the doctor here, and the doctor told me not to fight. That it was the type of injury that could be worsen [while fighting] and that I should not fight. But the fight was already booked, we had already done a lot of promotion for the fight. I was stubborn, I was imprudent, but thank God everything went well, in no moment in the fight did I think I was going to lose. I was confident, I was well focused in what I wanted [to do] which was to submit my opponent, and I did. Before the fight, I told Minotauro that I was going to win by submission, I wore the Gi in tribute to him and Rogério [Nogueira], and for the whole Jiu-Jitsu community, and it was the Jiu-Jitsu that helped me, it was the Jiu-Jitsu that I learned with Rodrigo [Nogueira], it was the Jiu-Jitsu that I learned with all the teachers that I had throughout all this time, specially with Ramon [Lemos] and his guys that helped me out a lot, and that’s that." On what’s next: "Now it’s time to go home, train, rest. I haven’t had time to be with my kids, my grandmother passed away in the middle of my training camp and I was not able to return to Brazil. But now it’s time to go home, see my family and given them all big hugs, to my kids, my wife, and that’s that." via: blog Sensei

"He’s crazy! There’s not much to say. If he loses the weight I’m going to kill him. There’s no way, he’d be very weak in my weight [class], I’d rip his head off" (laughs). José Aldo, responding to Chael’s statement about going down in weight to face him, jokes appreciating the fact that his name was mentioned after such an important event. "I’m happy [having my name mentioned]. Its recognition, isn’t it? He must have mentioned my name because he saw me in the US walking around with Anderson in some promotional events [for UFC 117]." He also spoke his mind on the Sonnen/Silva fight: "I was shocked. In his entrance [to the octagon], Anderson will always move his hips and warm up. When I saw that he didn’t move right I already came to the realization that something was wrong." "Only fighters know what happens, the pain we feel. Sometimes, because of emotions, the fans that have never fought might not understand this. For sure his ribs were a problem. If not [for his ribs] Anderson would have ran through Sonnen and would not have been taken down as he was. If he was healthy, the fight would not have lasted five rounds." via: blog sensei

Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida Interview - 05/14/10

There is a popular Brazilian saying that goes; "I am Brazilian and I never give up". Lyoto Machida’s mind set after his first, and devastating, career loss seems to echo this saying quite well....

Lyoto wants his belt back! "It’s a complicated moment for me, I’m looking for the mistakes I made in the fight, but on the other hand it’s great because I’m getting a lot of support from my fans". "I was well trained and focused because our previous fight had a lot of controversies. I wanted to end this fight, I was feeling fast but a fight is a fight, there’s not much to say. Sometimes you are winning the fight but get caught and it’s over. I think I was winning the fight even though he was more aggressive". "Merits to Shogun, he deserved it and is the new champion, but that’s not the end of the story, life goes on". Leaving the top of his division, Lyoto dreams about the opportunity to fight for the title once again. "Whoever has the belt in the future, I hope to have that opportunity [again], but if it’s Shogun that will be even better, as the victory will be more satisfying". "His punch connected and, in this division, it’s hard to absorb the blow. When it connects, it’s really difficult [to absorb it]" "My goal is to fight for the title in a year or maybe even less, perhaps around 10 months or so. Regaining the belt is my new dream." Interesting video, Shogun training for his rematch with Machida The guy he's sparring with is João Guilherme Bendlin, who is also from Pará. He is a champion from CBK (Brazilian Confederation of Karate), he comes from the style of Wado-Ryu Karate (a Shotokan style in Japan). He's a 2nd Dan black belt. Most of the video is pretty self explanatory, the only conversation I'd say is relevant to be translated would be around 3:52 where it appears João didn't mimic Machida well in that instance and someone from the outside yelled; "João, that distance is different, remember, you are Lyoto, you are not João". Shogun’s main trainer, André Dida, shares his thoughts on the rematch: "I wouldn’t want to be Lyoto right now because Shogun is going to rip his belt with kicks"…"To be honest, it’s not a good plan for Lyoto to stand with Shogun. He knows that his Karate won’t beat the Muay Thai. In my opinion as coach, he’s going to want to work his Jiu-Jitsu with Shogun. I don’t think he’s going to want to trade with Muay Thai because he saw what happened last time, he came out very hurt [from the fight] and was not efficient. So I think he’s going to want to work on his Jiu-Jitsu". This Fan Shot was promoted to the front page by Nick Thomas. HT: portaldovt.com.br UFC 113: Machida vs. Shogun 2 coverage

Lyoto Machida doesn’t really believe in the "you have to beat the champion to become the champion" concept. Lyoto Machida said that in the potential scenario that their second fight goes to the score cards, the fight has to be scored as it plays out. "I think it has to be fair. I don’t think the challenger needs to "take the belt" from the champion. I think it has to be scored as it plays out…" Via:SuperLutas.com.br

"Before, I looked up to Anderson as an idol, I watched his fights when I was still fighting BJJ, but today I look at him and feel a sort of aversion, a feeling of disgust to be in the same environment [as he]. It’s a weird feeling that I never had for anyone before" "I don’t like to feel this way, I think it’s a bad sentiment for me, but I know it will pass. Not that we’ll be the best of friends, but I know [this feeling] will be temporary" Demian Maia shares his thoughts on sharing the same stage as Anderson Silva in a popular Brazilian TV program. Aside from his feelings, Demian sees the appearance from both athletes in the popular program as a positive for Brazilian MMA: "I think it was a huge step, it shows that there is no way to hold back the evolution of the sport here" Demian told Terra.

Anderson Finally Admits: Yes I Called Him a "Playboy" "There was a moment that I ended up taking the fight as a brawl and I said things; didn’t you say a spider has eight legs and you were going to take one? Let’s go than, get up, playboy! I called Demian a playboy, yes. Mike Tyson also used to provoke and was always criticized. Every big athlete is going to be criticized. It’s the same with Ronaldinho, Romário, Bebeto, Adriano, Júlio César… If there was all these repercussions and I lost the fight, it would be worse. Maybe I’d lose my job. But I came back home with the belt, without getting pinched, without getting a scratch, nothing. The Spider did what he always does: I went there, fought and won." Anderson admits to "O Globo", a newspaper with the largest circulation in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Full translated interview can be found here.

Beating Up a Dead Horse, Silva On The "Curse" Words During a fight In a news bit regarding "Ethics in Sports" from SporTV, Anderson shares more on his use of "curse words" inside the ring. "Sometimes it happens, sometimes when you are so high on adrenaline, when you have a strong will to do the fight, of wanting the fight, there are things that you end up saying" "What you can’t do is curse the mother of your adversary, you can’t use foul language against your adversary, but damn, if you call the guy to fight, ask the guy to get up, ask the guy to hit you, that’s normal, I see nothing wrong with that".

It was the opposite with me, I froze more towards the end of the fight"… "Regardless of what happened, I think Demian came to fight and so did Anderson… There are things that are complicated to judge"… "Fighting someone like Anderson is not easy, he’s a very abnormal guy, he changes a lot, he does things that you cannot believe, but Demian tried". A different view at the Anderson Silva fight. This is the only MMA Youtuber I subscribe to, half the times I don’t agree with him but he knows his stuff. I’m not trying to promote his channel, but what he said on the Anderson Silva fight I thought was worth a share (I'm not sure if I’m breaking the rules, if so, sorry in advance and I understand if this fanshot is deleted). Underlying this subject for the Anderson Silva fight is, MMA; it’s a sport dammit!
