AZ Snake Pit D'backs trade P Jason Bulger to Angels for 2B prospect Alberto Callaspo

http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/news/060228callaspo.html

Baseball America ranked Callaspo as the 8th best prospect in the Angels organization. John Sickels gave gim a grade of B- and tabbed him as the 10th best Angels prospect. I need to look around for more information but I like this deal and declare it as a minor win for Arizona.

AZ Snake Pit A last look at the Glaus deal

Frank Bundy III, a poster at the MLBCenter forums and a writer at athomeplate.com examines the Glaus trade and tells you who "won":

http://athomeplate.com/sb10406.shtml

The lone part that will upset some of you is him saying that Sergio Santos is a "non-prospect". In the end though, we really had no desperate need to cling on to Santos.

AZ Snake Pit Terry Mulholland and David Wells

"The Diamondbacks and LHP Terry Mulholland have reached a preliminary agreement on a minor league contract."

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5218808

Last year:

59 IP, 4.27 ERA, BB/9 2.59, K/9 2.75

Probably nothing more than a calculated risk for a LOOGY so don't go crazy. Remember, Joe Garigiola would have given him a two-year deal.

-----------------

"The Boston Globe reported that the (Diamondbacks) may have interest in trading for Boston SP David Wells."

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5198854

A plausible rumor but a rumor indeed. The only player Boston would probably intersted in is Craig Counsell to fill hole at short. Shawn Green perhaps but highly unlikely at this time or a later time too.

Last year:

184 IP, 4.45 ERA, BB/9 1.03, K/9 5.23

I wouldn't mind having him.

AZ Snake Pit D'Backs Wallpaper

Here's a wallpaper I just finished a couple of minutes ago. I tougth I'd share. Nothing fancy really. It sorta chronicles what D'backs fans probably cherish about the most. The duo, the bloop single, the celebration, the rookie of the year(should have been at least), and perfection:

With "tape":

You can also faintly see the BOB/Chase in the background.

AZ Snake Pit Worrel and more about Nomah

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2244386

Worrel signed a two-year contract with the Giants. Good news. Why? Even though we missed out on his "veteran presence" we currently have the Gnats' second round(assuming they don't sign another "Type A" free agent) and a supplemental pick.

Nomar has garnered intrest some the D'Backs to play second base or centerfield according to Gambo. Byrnes isn't that stupid to place Garciaparra in center but second base on the other hand is probably something to consider at the right price.

AZ Snake Pit R. Hernandez and Reese

http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/index.php?sty=53374

Just some free agent signing possibilities. Hernandez wouldn't be a bad pick-up. However, it's all about the money and the D'backs need pitching. Simple as that. Reese would actually do his job on defense(unlike Clayton) but they might as well leave Cintron there and save some money.

AZ Snake Pit Manny in (purple) pinstripes?

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2199067

"If Ramirez does request to be traded, Genske says "his preference would be Anaheim. He also still loves Cleveland, and would go back there." Another possibility would be Arizona, if Boston would take some of the contracts the Diamondbacks are trying to move, including Troy Glaus and Luis Gonzalez. Texas was in play at the deadline."

He's an overpaid, no glove, egotistical jackass...who just happens to hit .292/.388/.594/45HR. So of course I would love to have him. It's not happening but it's a good storyline for these slow times.

AZ Snake Pit I don't get it

Why are people so high on Royce Clayton? I was reading through official D'Backs message board(not a big fan of it, distorted views and bias. You know the usual but it's kind like a car wreck you know) and someone posted this on Clayton:

"You guys do realize that $3mil for a pretty good veteran is not a lot, right?"

Wow. Clayton has a bad on base percentage, doesn't get a lot of extra base hits, strikesouts a lot, and despite Thom and Grace's praises, isn't the outstanding fielder as he is made out to be. Apperently, he has been on a tear after the AS break. What? Clayton? The funny thing is he WANTS to get paid a $3 million next year because he's so good. Ridicoulous. Quite frankly, I fail to see why Cintron or Andy Green are not starting these last few games or this whole year in fact.

Come on give me your opinions.

AZ Snake Pit Rafael Furcal a Diamondback in 2006? Nomar?

Here is an article from Rotoworld.com about possbile destinations of the "weak" 2005 free agent class. The signing doesn't seem possbile but is still an intresting read:

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/features/column.asp?sport=MLB&column=14&articleid=1076

Highly unlikely in my opinion on Furcal but a suprise the author would name the D'backs as the winner. He probably didn't take into account the teams finances. The front office says they want to put a good team on the field and are willing to spend the money. But they have signed 3 players to lenghty contracts(Glaus, Green, and Ortiz) and have 2 draftees who wanted(in Uptons case wants) 5 million plus to sign. So, I bet they are hesitant to spend even more. Especially since the "not rebuilding but re-load" team they put togheter is currently 55-63. The draftees also happen to be listed as shortstops. The only way I see it happening is if they trade Vazquez and we want some pitching in return if we part with him.

Nomar on the other hand is someone I would take a gamble on. He isn't going to demand a lot of money or at least shouldn't. Not many teams will be asking for his services. Lastly, he is going to have a 1-2 year contract tops. Granted he is not the future HOF'er he used to be and the possiblility of injury is there. However, the worse he can do is be a little bit better than Clayton.

AZ Snake Pit I just realized

The Diamondbacks are 5 games over .500. So much for my overreaction Tuesday night, while in the process of bashing the D'backs offense, Glaus promtly rockets one out. I think I'm focusing too much on pythagorean records, what baseball prospectus says, and what writers(in particular Dayn Perry from foxsports.com) write. What I'm trying to say is, yeah, the Diamondbacks are probably overacheiving. But I bet we all agree, overacheiving is better than acheiving nothing at all.
