Terps offer Layman
via terrapinstation: http://terrapinstationmd.com/2011/07/10/terps-offer-2012-basketball-recruit-layman/
Mark Turgeon and Maryland have been very active in the 2012 basketball recruiting scene, targeting a lot of very, very high profile prospects. As it stands, however, they only have one commitment in the class – guard Seth Allen. The Terps have now offered a scholarship to another prospect, King Philip Regional (Wrentham, Mass.) small forward Jake Layman, according to Alex Kline of the Recruit Scoop.
Layman has also been offered by Boston College, Providence and UMass, and is one of the top 2012 prospects in the state of Massachusetts. Small forward is one of the positions Maryland needs a lot of help in (and by that we mean anything but point guard or shooting guard), and Layman has good size that could help out the Terps. He’s 6’8″ and 200 pounds and is rated by Rivals as the #32 small forward in the country and the #150 player overall in his class. ESPN, meanwhile, has him as the #40 small forward in the country, and all three recruiting services has him at three stars.
From the recruiting resources, it seems like he’s got a lot of tools – he’s a great athlete with a ton of length (which translates to defense) who dunks well and can shoot threes. Essentially, everything you want in a small forward. Maryland is desperate for height, as well, and with their current setup 6’8″ definitely counts as height.
Who would you rather
Very exciting time to be a terp isnt it boys? With all of these elite prospects flirting with MD, great things are surely on the horizon for MD basketball.
But, of course, we aren't going to land all these guys - which begs the question...who would you rather?? I'm pretty sure it's safe to say we would all love to see McGary and Shaq up front. But what about the other studs this class?
Hypothetically speaking, if you could only land one other prospect to a Seth Allen/Mac/Shaq attack '12 class, who would it be?
Let's have a vote!
Turgeon assembling exceptional staff
Scott Spinelli, his associate head coach at Texas A&M, is expected to join Maryland’s staff this week. Spinelli was in the running to succeed Turgeon in College Station, but reports Saturday said the Aggies will hire Murray State Coach Billy Kennedy on Monday.
There are concerns whether Maryland can afford to pay both Hill and Spinelli, though it is growing more likely that will happen.
...
It is expected that Bino Ranson will remain on Maryland’s staff as Turgeon’s other assistant coach
I don't know about you guys but Spinelli + Bino + Hill is one hell of a coaching/recruiting staff. If MT can make this happen, we are gonna create reverberations throughout the DMV and beyond in the college basketball world.
QB Burns to move to WR

The football coaches were made available to the media today, and there was one interesting tidbit that stood out, via Patrick Stevens:
Edsall says Jeremiah Wilson will move from DB to running back, Devin Burns from quarterback to wide receiver.
We obviously had the first part a month ago, so let’s talk about the second part. It’s a great move, on the surface. Burns was behind Danny O’Brien and CJ Brown on the depth chart, not to mention Tyler Smith, who is in the same class as Burns and came in with considerable more hype.
Last year, Ralph Friedgen talked about Burns’ football smarts and his ability to move with the ball, both assets that should come in to play at wideout. With significant losses at the position, the Terps need all the help they can get with depth, and Burns certainly helps there.
Ultimately, Burns didn’t have much of a future with Maryland at quarterback (I was honestly worried he might consider transferring). At wideout, he’ll have a chance to showcase his skills, and maybe throw in a trick Antwaan Randle El style play or two.
Who’s ready for spring football?!

Wilbon: Rivalry Reunited
Not sure if this was posted on here already but I was able to stumble upon this really good piece by Mike Wilbon amidst the ocean of media attention we have been getting. And I'm assuming you're all as infatuated with Wilbon as I am...

I appreciate the lack of discussion about the riots and the court storming. It's refreshing to hear about the other aspects of the game for once since that night.
