This quote irked me.

"I've heard the scouting line "He can't hit good pitching" a number of times applied to many players, but I never thought it had much value, since "good pitching" is the kind that nobody hits, otherwise it would be "bad pitching" or "Elartonic." That said, the phrase might finally have its exemplar in Burrell, who flunked out of the AL East, went bananas in the NL West, then flopped again in the World Series against more AL pitching."

Keith Law knows more about baseball than me, but he does not do National League pitching justice.

But this made me a bit sad.

I already got over it.

I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up but I mean come on.

Keith Law scouts the San Jo Giants and comes away somewhat unimpressed especially with Crawdaddy. Also, Buster in the bigs by labor day?

McCovey Chronicles Appreciation for the Regulars

I am a huge Giants fan.  I watch every game and read every post game wrap.  I try to study everything I can on the Giants because during the summer, they are the only thing that matters to me.  My life from April to October (hopefully) is the San Francisco Giants.

That is why I came here.  I needed more Giants, and a blog devoted to them seemed like a logical destination.  I joined the site and posted occasionally, often times to harsh criticism.  I quickly realized just how shallow my baseball knowledge was, and how flawed my opinions on the team really were.  I got intimidated and stopped posting.  I decided to just read for the time being, trying to pick up little bits of knowledge that I could show off to my fellow Giants fans at school.  People at school were impressed with what I had learned from MCC, so I read more and more hoping to one day acquire the knowledge necessary to post with confidence on this site.

But what I came to realize is that my fanhood and baseball knowledge will only go so far.  As much as I wanted to be the person people turned to for statistical analysis, my mind would not allow it.  I could not find the time or the energy to keep up with the rest of the regular McCoven.

So it is in this Fanpost (sorry if this does not warrant one) that I say thank you to all of the McCovey Chronicle regulars.   Thank you for spreading your knowledge to us mortals, and non-computers (xanathan).  Thank you for creating an entertaining and hilarious place to get away from the everyday grind of work and school.  Thank you for allowing me to become a bigger Giants fan than I thought possible, even if it only one tenth of you guys.

And finally, on behalf of the weekly and monthly posters, I say thank you for creating the best community of Giants fans on the web.  What you guys don't realize is that most Giants fans I know come here first to get the analysis because they know you guys know your stuff the best.  Even if we annoy you with our incompetent baseball knowledge, put up with us, because we sure as hell appreciate you.

PS: Thanks for also making me realize there are always bigger nerds in the world.

The holy one falls one short of turning water into wine.

I call on the knowledgeable McCoven to lend me insight on the quality of watching baseball on Slingbox. As this is my first year in college, I am struggling with the idea of just gameday audio for the first 2 months of the season (even with the immortal duo of Jon and Flem). So, to all of you who have a slingbox or have seen a baseball game using one, what is the quality like and does it warrant spending the rest of my money to get one?

Especially loved the video and seeing how his motion has changed since high school.

I think the title speaks for itself. Stephen A. Smith writing about anything, let alone baseball, represents all that is wrong with ESPN.

I don't think this has been tossed around too much. I think its worth thinking about but I would love to hear what the knowledgeable McCoven feel about it.

McCovey Chronicles Nick names for Freddy Lewis aka "The Epidemic"

This guy needs a nick name.  Probably my favorite player on the Giants just because he has so much raw talent.

I was thinking about it and you could pull off a T-mac type thing and call him "flew".  Or you could play off it and call him "The Epidemic"

Any other suggestions.  The guy is too much of a boss not to have a legit nick name.  Lets hear what you have to say.

Golden State Of Mind J-rich's trade request

I have commented on this incident many times during open threads but I felt I needed to hear more peoples opinions on this subject. I love JR and he was one of my favorite players for a long time, but I find his trade request faulty.

It is completely understandable that JR wanted a trade.  As many others pointed out to me, the team was going nowhere fast and they did not seem to be turning the corner any time soon.  The team was young but tired and had nothing real to look foward to.  Remember this was before the Nellie signing so in a nutshell, things were not looking up.  So, naturally, J-rich, feeling he could contribute on a winning team, would want a trade.  Fine, nothing wrong with that.  J-rich, it will hard to see you go but good luck where ever you end up.

Wait, wasn't it J-rich who just told us he was going to bring the playoffs back to Oakland.  Wasn't he the guy who we were counting on to lead our team to glory again.

Yep, that was him, and maybe it's just me, but I expect somebody and good natured as JR to live up to a promise, or to at least try.

Imagine you give a friend your word with that kind of promise.  Don't you have to at least try to live up that promise?  Doesn't your conscience nip at your heels for a little bit?  Don't you owe the friend to at least stick around and try?

Now I'm not saying JR is a bad person because he is one of the classier guys in the league.  I wish him the best in Charlotte and will wear the retro Jr 23 jersey proudly, but doesn't he deserve some criticism for this move?

Please let me hear what you think.
