Daily Norseman Why RG3 going #3 makes sense!

When you are drafting a player from the college ranks, you typically want to select according to the needs on the current roster. UNLESS, a once in a life time player comes along (see vikings 2006 NFL 1st round Draft pick) . If the coaches and players were convinced that Ponder, or Webb was the answer for us to compete within our division for the next decade, Frasier would have never made the comment; we will review the QB position in the offseason a little closer and Harvin would have never made the comments he made in reference to Webb being the better option for sparking the offense....so before you begin tossing your tomatoes, hear me out after the jump!

Daily Norseman The VIKINGS NEW D.... 3-4 Scheme players/positions

LOLB=Chad Greenway...another Matthews IMO

ROLB=Everson Griffen...another Orakpo IMO

ILB=One of the Henderson Brothers

ILB= (R) Vontaze Burfict....Don't worry, Mike Singletary will maximize his potiental, and he will be a stud (the name Vernon Davis comes to mind, when i think of out of control players that played under singletary. By the way, how is that guy working out?

NT= Draft Pick/Free agent....this is where we regret taking Ponder, and not drafting that guy from AUBURN!

LDT=Jared Allen...if JJ Watts is having success at it , jared allen will be a STUD!!!!

RDT=Kevin Williams...again, if JJ Watts is having success at it......

LCB=Chris Cook....i will fill in the blank on this one, after the verdict....

RCB= (R) Cliff Harris. Jaylon Hosley...a ball hawk to say the least, sould be around in the 2nd round when we pick.

FS= JamarcaStanford

SS=Husain Abdullah

Now, I know what you are thinking, this DUDE is clueless, but hear me out. We have the veteran locker room to make sure the Harris, and Burficts of the world remember how blessed they are to be in the NFL in the first place. Secondly exactly how much trouble can you get into in Minnesota. REALLY! So with that being said how do you like your New and Improved vikings defense? and please don't forget viking world we are getting 1st round quality in the 4th and 5th round...because i really don't see any other organization wasting a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick on these two guys...That's my 2 cents. alright viking world, let me know what you think.

Daily Norseman REASON's YOU SHOULD BECOME A HUGE COLTS FAN

If you think for a second the colts can not beat a star depleated texans team, and a one trick pony in jacksonville, you had better think again.....now granted, its alway a chance the vikings win one of the next two games (that wasn't a joke) but i hope not. Now i have been listen to everyone talk about, why we should focus on not drafting a QB, and for the most part i agree, but if you have the opportunity to draft ANDREW LUCK, you draft ANDREW LUCK! Can you imagine if he is the next Payton Manning, with our backfield....top notch free agent would take paycuts to join out team, ie, solving most of our problems at key positions...and let me also add, i hope we do switch to a 3-4 defense! why else do you bring the great MIKE SINGLETARY on board. Let face it, Christian Ponder, will be a journeyman QB at best, THERE, i said it! So you keep him as your young back-up, Draft LUCK (if the chip fall our way) attempt to patch up your offensive line through the draft, change the defensive scheme, and sit back and watch your VIKINGS DOMINATE FOR THE NEXT DECADE!!!! So without further AHDO....LET GO COLTS!!!!

Daily Norseman It's Official.....PonderTIME!!!!!

Update

Donovan McNabb Benched: Fantasy Implications Of Vikings Decision To Go Start Christian Ponder

The NFL Network is reporting that the Minnesota Vikings have decided to make a switch at the quarterback position. Jason LaCanfora tweeted that Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier has decided to bench veteran QB Donovan McNabb and insert rookie Christian Ponder into the starting lineup.

Given the quality of talent available at the top of the 2012 NFL Draft, this move will also have some repercussions in 2011 for fantasy football owners. I have to imagine few owners actually had Donovan McNabb in the starting lineup on a weekly basis and even fewer had Christian Ponder even on their bench, but this move does impact the rest of the roster.

While McNabb was not having a ton of success it is hard to tell if this will actually improve things in 2011. Ponder is a rookie who struggled in the preseason and now will be facing NFL defenses on a weekly basis. He does have Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin at his side, but for now this would seem to downgrade both of them. This could turn into a solid decision down the road, but it is hard to see this having much success in the short term.

One player who could benefit a little bit is tight end Visanthe Shiancoe. We have no real idea who will become Ponder's security blanket this season, although it could very well end up simply being Adrian Peterson. However, I have always been a fan of grabbing tight ends on a rookie QB-led team. I think it dates back to Drew Bledsoe's early days when Ben Coates was his security blanket.

For now, hold steady with Peterson and Harvin. It is not that you would trade them or anything, but it is good to know how this kind of move impacts your key pieces.

Daily Norseman Sorry Detroit Fans but....

If you think  for one second that the VIKINGS are going to allow some YOUNGSTERS to stroll into the Metro-dome and Defeat them.....you might wanna think again (tampa bay has already used that get out of jail free card, that will not happen again). Sorry detroit fans, but this game will be know as a STATEMENT game, TO YOU, and the rest of the league! I'm not going to waste my time with breaking down stats, and the Tampa bay game comparisons, because at the end of the day, none of that really matters. Don't get me wrong, the Lions look darn good, however it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that it takes more than just talent to win in the NFL....they will do pretty well for themselves this year, but to crown them is a little bit pre-mature. They will remember sunday's game as a REALITY CHECK! You heard it here 1st!

Daily Norseman Has anybody ever heard of Bruce Campbell?

He's a total freak to say the least. I am totally blown away that he was not selected in the first round....... Measureables: 6'7/ 314, 4.7 (40) bench press 490 pounds and he plays OT. You can never have enough OT's. I first seen Mr. Campbell this morning on ESPN (sport science) I thought to myself, he's pretty impressive, but surely any pro OT can do what he's doing right ! So out of curiosity i you tubed Mr. Campbell, and to my surprise, (mouth wide open) he is a FREAK!!! If you are a true viking fan you can not see the vikings passing on this guy with the second overall pick on day 2.

Daily Norseman Trash the run first concept....PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

The 2009 minnesota vikings are not a run first team period!  Adrian Peterson is a beast (inspite of last night) but, you have one of the best signal callers in the game right now, I think it will be in the vikings best intrest to insert the no huddle offense IMMEDIATELY and let Mr. Favre go out and earn that paycheck, he knows what he is doing. (19 yrs in the bizzzz )  This the NFL, you have to keep everybody guessing. Name one team in the last decade that was a run first team and went on to win the SUPER BOWL........We have an excellent team and by now the coaches should understand that we have to allow the pass to set up the run and not the other way around. Three and Four wide receiver sets the rest of the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Daily Norseman Breaking News: Harvin is OUT !

This will be a major blow to our offense. OK viking faithful, can we really pull this one out against the bengals with one of our most explosive players on the sideline? Have the injury bug finally caught up to us? Are there so many injuries, that it is safe to say that we will back into the playoffs? I know that you guy's are wondering why don't GONZO ban me for this upsurd post, but is it really upsurd? I am a viking fan down to the core but, we are going up against one of the better defenses in league today, and with 2 banged up tackles, w/o 2 starters in the secondary, our beloved middle linebacker gone for the year and coordinators finally scheming against JA, the rest of this season could get pretty interesting........................and don't forget it is DECEMBER (The Proclamed: Fall of Favre Month)

Catch my drift, LISTEN the steelers are very afraid of Minnesota and probably upset that the media

continue to pick them as the favorites. Has "little ben" looked good against lesser competition? Has "little

ben" seen four down lineman like ours? Has the pittsburghs defense faced a offensive line like ours?

Yes, No and No. This list goes on and on trust me. Listen Viking world, get ready for the bandwagon

hoppers, because after today EVERYBODY,and I mean EVERYBODY will know that the Vikings are the

FRONT RUNNERS in this league. Don't worry about our secondary, They will be alright! They might even

get a pick or two! ENJOY the win viking world (young and old) you deserve it. SKOL VIKINGS .......7-0 feels good!

Daily Norseman I found this article very interesting!

This is an article i have COPIED AND PASTE for YOUR viewing, BY Jay Glazer of fox sports..........................

If I were a betting man, I'd swear Brett Favre would be joining the Vikings in the next few weeks, or at least attempt to join the team in that time frame.

Wait a minute, I am a betting man.

Now, first off, this is not one of those "FOXSports.com has learned ..." news scoops. Instead, it's a picture that has been painted for me and a prediction I'm making after spending my time with Zygi Wilf's squad. My prediction couldn't be more emphatic.

After visiting the Vikings for two days, I am convinced — positively convinced — that Brett Favre will soon have talks with the Vikings to return to the team and could be joining them for this season after all. If my instincts are correct, all those purple Favre jerseys will have a home on Minnesota store shelves.

Granted, my camp stop occurred before Sage Rosenfels lit up the Colts in the preseason opener to the tune of 10-of-13 passing for 91 yards. And if Rosenfels can continue like this, he could squash this prediction as the preseason continues.

But until I see it more consistently, I'm absolutely convinced. Why? For starters, because everyone else on the Vikings seems to be convinced of the same thing. I mean damn near everybody!

During my two days in Mankato, nearly everyone I talked to within the team talked about Favre joining not as an "if" but rather a "when."

Players, coaches, team employees ... you name it, they seem to believe it. The case for a Favre-Vikings marriage seems more likely than not when we look at the overall picture of clues.

Exhibit A) Acceptance within the team that it's pretty much already done.

When I say nearly everyone I talked to on the team is convinced he's coming, that is not an exaggeration. People from all walks of life within the organization talk about it as if it's no secret, almost an afterthought.

"I'm telling you it's already done," said one Viking. "Right after the Indy game (first preseason game). I don't think anyone here doesn't think that."

CAMP SIGHTS '09

Watch video ... <a class='sbn-auto-link' href= Q&A with Jared Allen: Marvez trades hairstyle secrets with fellow mullet-touting DE Jared Allen. Watch video ... <!-- DIVIDER -->

Another Viking said, "I don't know if it's done, but I think he'll be in by the third preseason game."

If it happens, when is a good question. While the one source says he thinks it will happen this week, I don't. If it happens, getting him in by the third preseason game would have been ideal, but waiting until the season starts to see if the Vikings starting quarterback falters could be another route. That way Favre can come riding in on his white horse.

Our humble host of FOX NFL Sunday, Curt Menefee, also made the trip to camp when I did, and upon our exodus from Mankato, Menefee brought up how matter-of-fact the issue seemed to be around the club. Everyone acted as if they already knew something (even if they didn't) and even Menefee said he was floored by how open it seemed and how accepted it was as more than an opinion.

"It was crazy, it was like it was accepted as fact ... by everybody," said Menefee during a conversation while we were en route to the airport. "It wasn't even like it was a secret. I've never seen anything like it."

Exhibit B) Favre has not closed the door on his decision.

Those close to Favre told FOXSports.com he is still contemplating what he wants to do and is still eliciting advice from people he trusts regarding his decision. Those sources say his decision either way is far from set in stone.

Favre is still working out (at least according to what he's told others) and is still keeping in touch with members of the Vikings via text. If Favre wasn't planning to keep the door open or planning a full-on return, why would he have indicated that he would continue to throw and work out? Was that simply to make sure we all keep wondering and talking about a potential return?

Exhibit C) Best available option.

Neither Sage Rosenfels nor Tarvaris Jackson has done anything to make the Vikings feel either is the answer at quarterback. Jackson had been hurt this summer, but even when healthy he and Rosenfels have actually been outplayed during training camp by third-stringer John David Booty.

To listen to Brad Childress, one would think an open door to Favre would be in order. While I was at camp, Childress was quoted as being unhappy with the passing game. While he wanted more out of that phase of the offense, he was quick to point out that the receivers were doing well. So if the receivers are doing well but the passing game is struggling ... hmmm, who does that leave?

Exhibit D) Favre hates camp.

It's far from a secret that the NFL's version of Lou Gehrig dreads the rigors of living at a college campus, working out in the stifling sun with a bunch of kids who won't be in the league in three weeks. If he could miss camp, he would. In this case if the Vikings would take him back after camp, Favre gets his wish.

I think any NFL jury would award the verdict to a Favre return. However, while I may be completely convinced he will at least attempt to join the team now that camp has broken, the question that now arises: Will owner Zygi Wilf give Favre the go-ahead despite previously being spurned?

Some Vikings people vehemently attempted to convince me that the Vikings' ship has sailed to other waters. Childress has said they are fine with what the Vikings have. But until the final game of this season is played with no sign of No. 4 in sight, I'm not going to buy it.

The Vikings know they would be a better team with Favre at the helm. But some inside the organization believe the Wilfs could have been put off by how Favre Fiasco '09 unfolded. It dragged on past soap opera drama levels and in the end, they were left jilted at a very public altar.

However, I've got to believe that if Rosenfels and Jackson do nothing to conjure images of Fran Tarkenton, having Favre ride his mower up to the Twin Cities will begin to look awfully tempting to the Wilfs.

Again, I'm a betting man and if I had to lay a bet down right now ... I'd be willing to bet my farm.

ALTHOUGH NEITHER SIDE WILL CONFIRM, NOR DENY THE DISCUSSIONS, IT HAS BEEN APPARENT THAT BOTH SIDES ARE STILL INTERESTED AND SPECULATION HAS MOUNTED ON THE HEELS OF RECENT COMMENTS BY BOTH FAVRE AND BUS COOK. SOURCES ALSO CONFIRMED THAT FORMER COACHES HOLMGREN AND REID TALKED FAVRE OUT OF JOINING VIKINGS UNTIL AFTER THE 2ND PACKERS/VIKINGS GAME ON NOVEMBER 1. ALTHOUGH THE VIKINGS WOULD HAVE PREFERRED FAVRE JOIN TEAM IMMEDIATELY, BOTH AGREED THAT THE CERTAIN MEDIA CIRCUS AND DISTRACTIONS THAT WOULD HAVE SURROUNDED THE TWO REGULAR SEASON MEETINGS WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFICULT AT BEST. BY JOINING THE VIKINGS DURING THEIR BYE-WEEK PRACTICES, FAVRE AND THE VIKINGS WILL HAVE A WEEK TO PREPARE FOR THE WEEK TEN MEETING AGAINST THE LIONS. I am from Texas, but i am a huge Minnesota Vikings fan, and have been since the arrival of Randy Moss.(1998 draft)  This offseason i've keeping up with transactions, signings and development of players on the roster. One player in particular i have grown fond of is Mr. Jaymar Johnson, but I have yet to hear how he is doing in camp. Can some one past on a website or a link where I can monitor Mr. Johnson progress, besides Vikings.com and The Daily Noreseman. This information would be greatly appreciated...................Thanks

Daily Norseman It appears Brandon Marshall might be done in Denver

Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall(notes) arrived at the team's headquarters Friday, met with owner Pat Bowlen and left carrying packed boxes leading to speculation he has played his last game in Denver, according to the Denver Post. If this is true, there is no doubt in my mind that his motives are to join CUTLER in chicago!!!!

Daily Norseman Favre promised Jets he'd only play for Vikings

Because the Jets, who still owned the rights to Brett Favre after his retirement, granted Favre his outright release, he's free to sign with any team without the Jets receiving compensation. Though the Jets didn't return a call last night, it is believed that when they granted him his release, Favre promised them that if he returned it would be only to play for the Vikings -- not a competing AFC East team with a vacancy caused by major injury.

Daily Norseman Ask yourself.............. Is Farve better than Warner ?

With Kurt Warner leading his team to the Super Bowl, there is little doubt in my mind the Mr. Farve was sitting at home saying to his self: If this guy can lead the Cardinals (of all teams) to the Super Bowl surely if I can find a way to sign with the team i orginally wanted to sign with in the first place, i can..............................?

Now grant it, Kurt Warner is two years younger than Brett Farve, but think about it, if Farve was in Arizona the Cardinal would have never even considered starting Matt Leinart over BRETT and with that being said, in my mind a 40 year old brett is better than a 38 year old predictable, one dimensional Kurt Warner. Daily Norseman With Favre a free agent, Vikings will weigh their interest in veteran QB

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Brett Favre says he's retired, but Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress acknowledged Friday that it's likely the team will at least assess its interest in the record-setting quarterback later in the offseason.

Brett Favre, QB

2008 Statistics
Completions: 343
Attempts: 522
Passing Yards: 3,472
TD/INT: 22/22

Childress declined to directly answer a question about whether he has recently spoken with Favre. The coach said he has been too busy with the NFL draft and the Vikings' rookie minicamp.

Favre asked for and received his release from the New York Jets earlier this week. Favre, 39, left his future open with the disclaimer "at this time" in a statement affirming his retirement.

The Green Bay Packers filed tampering charges against the NFC North rival Vikings last summer, alleging inappropriate contact with Favre while he was waffling again on his retirement. The league dismissed the case.

Daily Norseman QB options: anybody ever heard of this guy name Tom Brady?

Ok, i know what you are thinking. Gonzo needs to revoke this guy's membership for such a foolish post, right! Well hear me out, Bill Bilichick has never been known to go with the more expensive player, especially when he has a cheaper replacement. Even if it is "The Great Tom Brady". Bill Bilichick is a FOOTBALL GURU and would love nothing more than to add another feather to his cap by replacing Tom Brady with a HIGH SCHOOL QB/ College TE. Either way it goes one of the two players will have to go, via trade or whatever................Tom Brady is due to make around 15 million next year.............Matt Cassel 12-14 million next year due to the franchise tag. There is no way Kraft (NE owner) will pay that type of money to a back up.  SOOOOOOO viking community FIRE AWAY.              SKOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think about it, we are in need of secondary help annnnnnnnnnd special teams play  could use a overhaul soooooooooo, let me know what you think. This could be the bargin we were looking for, cheap with a hugh up side.   SKOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Daily Norseman Support Your Quarterback.............

With better play calling and a bonafide right tackle, who knows how far the vikings could have went this year. Great experience for Tavaris, considering that he was prematurely benched this year. Just think about it , If Jackson has time to throw the ball (and matt birk hikes the ball right) it would have been a different outcome. So lets rally around our young vikings because in 2009 we will terrorize the entire NFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  (if we fix the above mentioned) SKOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Daily Norseman LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright Viking faithful, "This is the day the LORD has made and we shall rejoice and be glad in it ."  With that being said...........Lets get ready to Rumble!!!!!!!!! As the UNDERDOGS, we gladly embrace our beloved Vikings as such, considering everything our team has endured, from: Was not suppose to beat , Carolina (Steve Smith enough said) to the Saints (The saints simply score to many points) to the Cardnials (Minnesota secondary will indeed struggle against this bunch) can't forget the Giants ( Coughlin will want momentum going in to the playoffs THEY WILL PLAY TO WIN) and now we have the Eagles (Mcnabbs back, Jim Johnson def. , Last weeks ripping of the Dallas Cowboys, Tavaris Jackson's inexperience and just a LONG list of reasons why the vikings won't win) ! So as Vikings fans lets embrace the title as being UNDERDOGS as Ali did against some of his MORE EXPERIENCE opp. Use it toward our advantage and RUMBLE YOUNG MEN RUMBLE!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
