Word through the grapevine is that the next college basketball team to go gray will be Syracuse, in a few weeks.

Is there any chance this ISN'T this first game we lose all season?

NetsDaily I wish the Nets would jump on the name "Kings"

http://www.sacbee.com/2011/03/16/3481107/maloof-attorney-files-trademark.html

The Maloof brothers have filed trademarks for several Anaheim-region names, all using the nickname "Royals".

I know taking another team's former name as soon as they change is unorthodox, but "Kings" - to me - is the perfect name for this team, and the identity they're trying to build.

1. An association with the borough of Brooklyn (Kings County).

2. An association with their stated goal of world domination.

3. Swagger, bravado, power. The embodiment of their two most visible owners.

4. The athlete, kingpin, entertainer, etc. who rules the city is the "King of New York". Gibes with their local ambitions.

5. Brooklyn Kings just kinda sounds good. Lots of good logo/uniform potential there too.

6. Good historic mojo: The Knickerbockers - Dutch colonists in New Amsterdam - surrendered the region to England, leading to the naming of Kings County in honor of Charles II.

I don't really know what my point is, since a move like this is straight out of 1880's baseball or 2000's Arena Football and the name has its own history somewhere else. Not to mention we're probably past the point when they've decided on a name. But in a perfect world, this match would happen.

Via UniWatchBlog, the latest ESPN the Magazine explores the obvious connection between the Georgetown Hoyas and gang activity in Chicago.

ESPN's Paul Lukas, on his UniWatch blog, puts the kibosh on the "Brooklyn New Yorkers" rumor:

"Question: Are the Nets slated to become the Brooklyn New Yorkers? Answer: No. I have been told by an NBA source what the Nets will be called when they move a few stinking blocks from my house to Brooklyn, and while I’m not at liberty to disclose what the team name will be, I can affirm that it is definitely not the New Yorkers. Trust me on this one."

From the New York Daily News:

In a move designed to prop up a weak football conference, The Big East has convinced TCU to leave the Mountain West and join the league as an all sports member, sources told the Daily News early this morning. Commissioner John Marinatto and Associate Commisioner in charge of communications John Paquette both flew to Dallas yesterday for the official announcement at 1 p.m. today.

Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician Is This Syracuse's New Football Uniform?

Saw this on Eastbay...

No road/white jersey on there yet.

I hope these are the main home jerseys. I think orange primary jerseys for a team called the Orange is a concept that's long overdue, and an idea that shouldn't be damned by previous orange jersey efforts. I'm also very pleased that there are common elements with the basketball jerseys. It always bugged me that the football team and basketball team never looked like they represented the same school.

I also hope this design sticks for longer than three years. The Syracuse logo/uniform situation across all sports has been a confusing disaster for decades it seems, but the most recent rebranding and hopefully this step will finally tie everything together.

Big Man v. Food fan, and I'd been hoping for a Syracuse episode. Dinosaur BBQ has got to be a lock for a visit, but I can't think of a prominent eating contest in the area off the top of my head. Maybe he did Faegan's beer tour?

The cultural phenomenon that is Hakim Warrick has reached a new plateau. On the new Wu-Tang Clan (sorta) album, Inspectah Deck name-drops Hak, delivering this gem at 2:10 into the track:

"I'm playing for the bucks like Hakim Warrick"

The album came out March 30th, and Hak was traded from the Bucks to the Bulls over a month earlier. But a hip-hop name drop is still a hip-hop name drop, and as significant milestone as any in an NBA player's career.

Jordan-brand-silver-anniversary

We got off easy with our new uniforms. Georgetown deserves nothing less than this.

Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician Coach Q Collapses During Game

Syracuse coach Quentin Hillsman is OK after collapsing on the sideline late in the second half of a game at Louisville.

Hillsman was taken to the locker room and examined by doctors before traveling home with the team Saturday.

Hillsman tells The Associated Press in a telephone interview that he feels fine. He says he got a little dizzy, and blacked out for a second.

Hillsman went down with 5:30 left and his team leading by nine. Assistant coach Rick Moody took over and helped the Orange hold on for a 64-58 victory.

Erica Morrow scored 23 points to help Syracuse (16-3, 3-3 Big East) end a two-game skid.

Hillman has been the head coach of the Orange since 2006.
