Silver And Black Pride Just because Christmas is over doesn't mean the giving has to stop.

Hey fiends, I'm a wayward Seahawks fan venturing here from Field Gulls. I hope everyone is enjoying the playoffs and is despising the Niners as much as we are.

The reason I'm here is thus: I have an autographed Aaron Curry glossy (here) that I feel could bring more joy to a member of Raider Nation than it does to me on my wall. I'd like to give it to somebody who will get the best use out of it. This isn't to instigate some sort of big circlejerk for attention or anything, I'd just really like to send this to somebody who's going to love it to death or give it to somebody special. I'll pay for shipping and all, so that's no worry.

So, yes, I'd like to hear why you'd like this signed photo of Mr. Curry. I'll exchange emails with somebody on Tuesday the 17th and we'll make it happen!

Happy typing.

He taught us all how to Dougie on Sunday, so the least you could do is vote for the man.

Did you hear that he's an undrafted free agent?

Field Gulls Can Pete Carroll build Seattle into a perennial NFC Western division contender?

"Carroll wasted little time naming the underwhelming Jackson his starting QB over Charlie Whitehurst, and for some, this was a sign that all the talk of competing was fraudulent.

That couldn’t be further from the truth.

In fact, it was the most competitive move Carroll could make."

Field Gulls A Call to Every True 12th Man: Blitz Needs Your Help

Field Gullers,

This is the worst part of the calendar year for football fans; concurrently, this is the worst calendar year in recent history for football in general due to the labor negotiations and lockout. I've had to submit to the fact that checking Seahawks news twelve times a day will not make the labor deal get done any faster or improve the Seahawks' draft position, and it hurts.

That being said, our team has something considerably more significant to deal with than any labor deal.

Happened upon this gem from after the Beast Quake win. Couldn't find it posted anywhere on here, so I hope this helps stave off the inevitably dire depression of the offseason.

Field Gulls Why We've Got it Good: Week 12

Since this is about instilling optimism following our loss to the Saints, my mind immediately defaulted to
spilling out my excitement about Matt Hasselbeck’s recent resurgence into 2007 form and his ability to
carry the team as he has in the past. I mean, the man’s one fully functional arm and recently concussed
brain-jobber has been responsible for ~700 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, zero interceptions, ~70%
completion percentage and a 105.7 QB rating over the past two weeks, with one week of stats coming
against the NFL’s stingiest (albeit injured) pass defense. Throw in the peripheral fact that he is 35 years
old and, well, hot damn. I can only hope to have a moderately secure 401k going for me in November of
my 35th year, let alone put up Pro Bowl-esque numbers as an NFL quarterback.

After drafting up about half of a post on the subject, I decided to scrap it. Sucks to your ass-mar, sunk
cost of time and creativity.

I write this passing exit 245 on I-90 eastbound, about 35 miles out of Spokane. If you haven’t inferred it
already, I’m not driving, namely due to getting some quality alone time with my car in 9.5 hours of I-5,
Seattle’s-completely-unprepared-for-any-amount-of-snow-and-should-have-its-State-Transportation-
Seceretary-fired traffic. This write-up is later than any of the other WWGIG pieces I’ve written mostly
due to sickness and the virus that is procrastination, but it has given me some time to really reflect on
what I truly want to write about this week, especially over the past couple of hours as the wonders
of white Washington have passed me by. After a lot of thought and conversation with my Pops about
football, the holidays and life in general, a thought and subject were finally fleshed out.

Field Gulls Petition to Block the Looming NFL Lockout

I've been reading complaints from a lot of Seahawks players lately regarding the ridiculousness of the new CBA and the potential of a blackout of America's most popular sport next season. As fans we might think there is not a terrible lot we can do about the situation less we protest outside CBA meetings, but there certainly are opportunities to have your voice heard.

It's simple. Hop on over to the NFL Lockout website and make your voice a part of the petition to stop the lockout. It takes seconds, so why not? Thanks for doing your part.

Field Gulls Why We've Got it Good: Week 9

NOTE: Again, this is something I'm trying out each week after a Seahawks loss, so let me know what you think. It's a little bit late this week because work and school are rapidly deteriorating my mental fortitude.

Back when I was a young buck I didn’t know a terrible lot about football. I wasn’t that interested and knew it only as something into which my Pops invested entire weekends after yard work was taken care of. Admittedly I was far more interested in drinking pop and playing Nintendo 64; whatever commentary this holds regarding modern parenting is an aside. I’d spend hours playing my favorite game, NFL Blitz, with my favorite opponent and best friend Paul Fickel, downing several cans of Safeway Select Cola as the afternoons and evenings wasted away.

Even at the age of 10 I didn’t have much in the way of a home team and didn’t know what it was like to feel a loyalty to college or professional sports organizations. Thus, my team selection in NFL Blitz consisted of finding the most balanced team in all phases of the game. I wasn’t much of a risk-taker (as much risk as can be found in playing a video game) and never went for broke on teams that had an amazing offense but a deplorable defense, or a great defense but miserable special teams.

In watching the slaughter this past weekend, the 2010 version of our Seattle Seahawks made me think of those days playing NFL Blitz. Why?

Field Gulls Why We've Got it Good: Week 8

NOTE: This piece, "Why We've Got it Good," takes a look at something positive after a loss. This is something I'd like to try out this season, so please let me know what you think. Hopefully I won't have to do this often...

This weekend was depressing to say the least. If you are a Husky or Cougar fan as well, then the tragedy of this weekend was exponentially devastating; life as an ant on a hot Summer day must already suck, but adding the proverbial magnifying glass is, how the Romans say, "absolute balls."

Well, as the other Roman saying goes, "shit happens."

It was around the second quarter when I realized the "listless" sticker on the back of the team's collective helmet was not going to come unstuck, so my focus turned from the game on the field to the shots of the Oakland Coliseum.

A smile came across my face. Why?

Field Gulls Win Forever: Requesting a Field Guller Review

Well, with as much as we've all heard/read about Pete Carroll's "Always Compete" philosophy, I would like to call out to anybody that has read Win Forever to post at least a partially detailed review or summary. I would more readily trust a review from a Field Gulls community member than anything on the bottom of an Amazon page. If you haven't read the book either and would like to have a review written, say so in the comments and maybe we can scare a Seahawks bookworm out of their hole. I know we're all busy, but I would appreciate this endeavor greatly.

As a reward for your efforts, Brandon Mebane will donate the skull of an opposing QB to the charity of your choosing, under your name.

Field Gulls First Hand Final Minicamp Notes

So, I'm not sure if you remember, but a little while back there was a FanPost by an individual promoting a meet-and-greet with Pete Carroll courtesy of POWERADE. It was taken down fairly swiftly because I'm sure that the admins at Field Gulls, like me, were quite suspicious of a claim such as this when Pete Carroll's name wasn't even spelled correctly.

I was one of those kids back when the internet was still relatively new that tried to win their family a dream vacation by clicking on popups and entering in my email address, oh, I don't know, a couple dozen times. That being said, I was rather skeptical of this Pete Carroll meet-and-greet offer... but went with it anyway. Had they offered free Cialis and Vicodin I may have been a bit more wary, but a couple of emails later and I had a Father's Day gift for my dad.

All jest and jabs aside, many thanks to POWERADE for making this happen. It was a once in a lifetime experience and the representatives were nothing but wonderful to my father and I. I'd like to get something going with POWERADE and Field Gulls in the future, so start thinking of some ideas!

Anyways...

After a tour of the VMAC, which I must say is a stunningly perfect facility, I got to sit with Pops on the grassy knoll alongside the outdoor practice field in the uncharacteristically beautiful weather and watch young (and old) athletes try to make a dollar. Me, dad, the sun, football and my notebook:

Field Gulls Help Me Help Blitz Beat His MS!

Field Gullers,

My name is Garth Purkett and I am proudly an active member of this wonderful blog we call our internet home. I realize that this FanPost may seem redundant as member G'd Up already notified our community about helping Blitz in the 2010 Walk MS, but I'm looking to spread the message even further and in a different way especially as the event gets closer. I am the Philanthropy Chairman of Theta Xi fraternity at the University of Washington and when I found out that the man behind Blitz, our mascot, has Multiple Sclerosis, I had to jump on the opportunity to help.

Field Gulls Chris Johnson must read Field Gulls

Per ESPN the Magazine's article, claiming Chris Johnson as its "NEXT" great player:

Many of Johnson's runs are designed for outside the tackles, where the slower defensive linemen and linebackers don't have much of a chance of catching him, much less delivering a career-changing lick. But even if Johnson knows better, he still wants to lower his shoulders and dole out a blow.

That's why his favorite play from this year is when he flattened Jaguars safety Brian Russell. "I wanted to show everyone that I could do that," he says.

I'm glad he's not our problem anymore.

Seahawksgreenjerseys1

Not to be alarmist, but with the previously heavy discussion of the potential of lime-green alternate jerseys seemingly subsided, I thought I'd take this time to post this screenshot from Madden '10. Unless this is some strange programmer joke, it would appear that the controversial threads could be coming to life...

Field Gulls Housh: A Psychic or Loudmouth?

It looks like TJ Houshmandzadeh is coming out with some biiiiig talk regarding our hopefully-soon-to-be-favorite passing tandem. (NOTE: As much as I hate linking you all to any article written by Mike Florio and his inherent bias against the Hawks, at least it's a conversation starter.)

Along with Nate Burleson and Darryl Tapp's high hopes (though a little less public), what do you think about the Hawks having this much swagger even before the first whistle of training camp?
