What if...The Eastern Sports Conference had been a go
ESPN ran a blog about Joe Paterno's attempt to create an Eastern All Sports Conference, but since I'm not a paid member I couldn't read it all. I did find someting similar on Allentown's Morning Call. Just thought you might enjoy reading it.
What is going on in Happy Valley?
I got this via email today. I was at homecoming this weekend and talked to a few folks who are part of the program. What they told me goes hand in hand with this post. What are your thoughts?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Below is a message posted on the PSU website. Information is consistent with what other people have been hearing about the program.
The last two home games we've been lucky enough to tailgate with a member of the coaching staffs family before the games. We asked one of the coaches wives what was going on with the program and the staff and the answers were disturbing to say the least. She said.........
1. Joe is not at practice more than an hour a day. He also rarely if ever attends any of the coaching or game prep meetings. She said people don't know how sick he was in the offseason implying that he went through a serious medical issue that has not been publicly reported. He has absolutely zero input into the gameplanning, and doesn't even know what it is until Friday night.
2. The dissention amongst the staff is at an all-time high. When Joe is not there, it's a contest to see who can act like they are in charge. There have been verbal arguments in front of the team in the middle of practice sessions between assistant coaches yelling at each other that they are in charge and are going to do what they want at that point of practice.
3. Multiple coaches on the staff have been reaching out to gauge interest from other programs as they are worried about their future in the program. One "high profile" coach on the staff actually reached out to the head coach of another PA school over the summer saying he was worried about his future at PSU and laying the groundwork for a possible move in the future.
4. There is a process in place amongst the staff to determine if a high school prospect should get an offer. Some of the coaches will vote against offering or recruiting certain kids just to spite the coaches who want them offered or are their primary recruiters. Whether this is actually going on or not I do not know, but at least one coach on the staff feels that way. For this reason, the coaches who actually do recruit have basically thrown their hands in the air and almost stopped recruiting all together.
5. "If Tom Bradley is the next head coach, the real coaches will leave in about 30 seconds."
After hearing this stuff, I really feel bad for the kids on the team. This staff and Joe in particular should be completely ashamed and embarrassed at their behavior. The sad part is I don't think Joe even has a clue what's going on because he's never around.
I don't know if we're going to win a game the rest of the year. The team has quit, the coaches have quit and morale is at an all-time low.
Nebraska accepts!
Looks like its offiicial folks!
Lydell Sargeant gets some positive press
Nice to see the media showing something good out of Happy Valley.... It's about time. Of course we won't see this on ESPN.
Woman's Volleyball makes it to the NCAA Finals on Saturday!
Not sure how many of you were able to stay up and watch the entire match, but it was awesome. They lost 2 sets, for the first time this season, and had to go to a 5th, but they rebounded and won it, on basically Nebraska's home turf. Great job, ladies! Next up: Stanford on Saturday at 8pm EST, ESPN2 for the championship!!
Penn State Woman's Volleyball on Facebook
The ladies are playing Nebraska for a shot at the finals tonight, on ESPN2, 9pm EST. My friend set up a facebook group. If you're on FB and want to join, click the link.
GO STATE!!!
"Offensive Genius" to remain at ND
Let's see what he can do for the Irish in '09.
Conspiracy at Iowa - courtesy of BHGP
I know we're all still hurting from the loss last week. At least I know I am, but I knew I was getting better when I got on the BHGP site this morning for the first time since last week. It's things like this that make me laugh and bring me back to reality. Despite him being an Iowa fan, BHGP is really friggen funny.
PSU not concerned with winning big
from ESPN.com. Pete Carroll should take a page from Joe's book....
Students "celebrate" win
There was another fanshot where the poster said there were "some pretty cool" celebrations happening downtown. I don't know. I read this and I think, what a bunch of morons. Don't they get it that doing stupid crap like this just makes their lives miserable in the long run? Dumb, dumb, dumb. I was a student in '90 when we beat #1 Notre Dame. Yes, a goal post from the practice field came down, but as far as I can recall, no reports of huge damage or anything stupid like this. The cops definitely did not have to use pepper spray. The students act like idiots and complain when the cops pull out the pepper spray. Be a little better behaved and it wouldn't happen, Penn State!
OSU will have Scarlet Fever on Saturday
some of the OSU blogs talk about this too. Can't they do something orginal?
Evans & Koroma practiced w/ team
according to espn.
FSU says NCAA found no new evidence
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The NCAA found no new evidence of academic cheating by Florida State student-athletes, but it may consider additional penalties against the school, including the forfeiture of games.
If that were to happen, one would assume it would affect Bowden's total win count, right?
I think he has found his calling and needs to focus on politics full time
PSU in 3rd place for Fulmer Cup
In yet another attempt to avoid work, I give you the following update:
The guys over at EDSBS finally caught up with all the criminals lurking within college football these days and updated the Fulmer Cup standings. Thanks to Andrew Quarless's 2 DUI's we jump from 8 points to 14 and right back in the thick of it. Thank God Missouri is keeping a strong hold in first place with 21 points. Read on: Fulmer Cup Standings
