Black Shoe Diaries Request for an old ticket stub

Hi all,

So this will be somewhat of a random request. I'm finally, very belatedly putting together a shadow box for the 2005 season featuring some photos and all my ticket stubs from that year. (Yeah, I know, 2005 was 7 years ago now, but it was one of those things I never got around to and the past few months have made me want a reminder of the "good times.")

I still have all of my tickets, save one. For the life of me I cannot find my Wisconsin game ticket stub. I was at the game, but I just can't find the ticket. I was wondering if there might be anyone on here who might have a Wisconsin 2005 student ticket and might be persuaded to part with it. If so, please either comment below or email me at:

psuwisky2005 at gmail dot com

Any help would be very, very appreciated. Thanks and We Are!!

As previously tweeted by Ben Jones, someone inserted themselves and Jerry Sandusky into WWE '12, and then simulated beating the crap out of Jerry Sandusky.

So yeah... There's that.

Black Shoe Diaries Penn State University shows no sign of lifting veil of secrecy

New excellent article from Sara Ganim raises some very good questions, IMHO. Is there a way to nominate someone for a Pulitzer? Seriously, her work throughout all of this has been tremendous.

It's also notable that this article seems to imply that Paterno is tenured faculty and thus is still on PSU payroll and was not fired. If true, no one was actually fired per se. Paterno lost the HC position, Spanier lost the presidency, but they along with Curley are still on PSU payroll... Easy to imagine why PSU would not want to talk about this if true.

Black Shoe Diaries PSU Alum in SoCal this weekend - looking for advice on watching the game

This weekend I will be in Anaheim, CA, and am trying to figure out what my options are as far as viewing the game. My hotel does not have BTN. There don't appear to be any legal avenues to stream televised BTN content over the internet from inside the U.S. I couldn't find any local sports bars that would be opening at 9am local time to show an east coast school v. a D-1AA school. Am I SOL? Any SoCal residents have any advice? Thanks!!

PS: If anyone is interested in scoring two great seats to the game, please see my post in the Sept. ticket exchange thread.

EDITED TO ADD (at 6:40pm on 8/30/11): Thanks for all your suggestions. Most were a little far from Anaheim, but those who mentioned the Alumni Association made me realize the first place I should've checked - the Orange County Chapter of the PSU Alumni Association. For posterity (anyone finding this page on Google), the closest PSU bar to Anaheim appears to be OC Sports Grill which is where the OC Alumni Association has their viewing parties and does open at 9am on the weekends during football season.

Thanks again for the suggestions!

Black Shoe Diaries Bolden Passes Wed. Test - Now Real Possibility Against Michigan

At least if you trust David Jones.

Penn State quarterback Rob Bolden passes Wednesday test, is in picture for Michigan game

Robert Bolden Sr. told me a few moments ago by phone from Detroit that his son passed the physical and mental components of the test administered on Wednesday by PSU sports medicine personnel:

"We're not completely sure how things go from here," said Mr. Bolden. "But he did pass."

Shortly after this story was published, from @rbolden1:

Trust in the Lord with ALL thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. I can get wit it

Let's hope he really has "gotten wit it." This is huge. IMHO, Bolden gives us the best shot at putting up the requisite number of points to beat Michigan in what will probably be a shootout.

Black Shoe Diaries We get so many superlatives like this that it's almost become passé...

...but it still makes me happy.

Penn State is the 2010 BCS Student Athlete Champion

In my mind, if there's anything that defines Penn State Athletics, it's this. Other teams get more wins. Other school's athletes are more successful academically. But no other school does both of those things better than Penn State does (all while playing by the rules). That's "success with honor," that's what makes Penn State "not normal," and that's what makes me most proud to be a PSU alum and fan. Even when we're having a down season, we're still recognized time and again as producing the highest caliber of student athlete, in both senses of the term. There's no higher honor in college athletics, and there's nothing worth trading that away for.

Black Shoe Diaries I know this is a long-shot but...

...does anyone know of any sports bars (pubs?) in London that broadcast American college football and would be likely to show the Capital One Bowl? I'm going to be in London over New Years, and since Kirk Ferentz is apparently in bed (literally) with the Orange Bowl, I'm now going to have to find a way to get the game over there... Anyone who lives, has lived, or even just visited on the other side of the pond have any suggestions?

At least according to tWWL... Can't say this worries me too much. Just means Royster will get a few more carries.

Black Shoe Diaries Paternoville Shut Down

This is just another symbol of everything that's gone wrong with PSU football since 2005. You can't even pretend that Paternoville is a grass-roots student effort anymore. Who is the PCC, when were they elected, and what gives them the right to make "a joint decision between [themselves], the athletic department and the university" as far as when other students need to pack up shop and go home? They're just more administration shills whose sole function is to pretend that the students are still running things, like the Greatest-Game-Day-People-to-Ever-Pretend-to-Deface-a-Monument-While-Wearing-Their-Favorite-Tie-Dye-Jerseys-Sponsored-By-Our-Corporate-Sponsors-Because-They-Make-Us-the-Great-Show-Turfgrass-Squad.

Black Shoe Diaries Two Takeaways from Eastern Illinois

From post-game Q&A with Evan Royster:

Q: Jay Paterno just said sometimes you come out and there's not a lot of atmosphere, it's kind of a test for the players to self-motivate yourselves. Did you guys feel that? Did you have to talk yourselves up today?

A: Yeah, a little bit. We came out and saw that the student section was a little bit emptier than it usually is and we were kind of upset about it but at the same time it kind of fired us up that we wanted to get out there and still play well. It's not like I'm mad at the students or anything like that, it just upsets us that people kind of look down on these games because they might be against the FCS division. People look down on them and we don't really get to look past them at all.

Let's get that again:

We came out and saw that the student section was a little bit emptier than it usually is and we were kind of upset about it

Did you hear that students? The players notice when you're not there! So how about all of you "fans"  who are part of the "best student section in the country" that were trying to sell your ticket for $35.95 (only $30 of which you got to keep if you were lucky enough to sell it) on the Student Ticket Exchange freaking show up to the game, and maybe even consider doing it on time?? K, thanks.

On a happier note:

Way more Blue Band and way less canned music than I can remember hearing in a long time. The Blue Band even had a couple of new tunes (Disturbia and Don't Stop Believing were at least new to me). Maybe someone in the athletic office has been receiving some complaints and managed to reign Guido in? We can only hope that this is a permanent change and not a one game thing.

Black Shoe Diaries Rose Bowl is an Official White Out

I'm not sure when/if they'll announce this on GoPSUSports, but as I was leaving the BJC yesterday after the mob/riot/insanity that was the student ticket sale, they had a sign set up outside that said "Everyone Wear White to the Rose Bowl" and the design was similar to the signs they had for Notre Dame 2007 and Illinois this year. I'm pretty sure that means that the Rose Bowl is an official athletic department white out for everyone - not just the students. So if you're planning on being there, make sure you're wearing white.
