ND Uninterested in the Big 10

According to ESPN

This is rather predictable posturing from my view.  One thing that the article points out is that Big 10 schools make MORE money from their tv deals than ND does.  Of course the ND AD can't just come out and say "after our last couple of years of mediocrity we'd be more than happy to join the Big 10."

Then again, maybe they are just that proud of their status as an independent and their "rivalry" with Navy.

NLC New Season Ticket Point Cut-Off

For those who are waiting to see if they are getting new season tickets, I checked my online credit card statement today and found a charge from Penn State for what should be season tickets.  I have 65 lifetime points so that should give everyone an idea of where they sit in the quest for tickets.

Who knows, maybe this is the year the cut-off drops down instead of going up.  I think it was somewhere around 52 points last year.

BSD Fantasy Baseball Info

The league has been set up on ESPN under the name PSU FB Black Shoe Diaries.

It is set to draft sunday at 8:15 but I recommend setting up your team ASAP as it is a public league and will fill soon.

The league number is 219308, I'm not sure if that will help you find it or not.

Let's go PSU Basketball,  tomorrow night I'll be at MSG rooting them on (that should get me to 75 words).

BSD Fantasy Baseball

Anyone here up for a BSD fantasy baseball league? i think that it would be a good way to pass the time until college football season starts.  If enough people were up for it we could likely have a draft Sunday night during the Phillies - Braves match-up.

Send me a message or reply to this, if there's enough interest I'll set the league up.  ESPN has a decent format and works easily enough (plus everyone already has accounts from the pick 'em challenges).

Newsome will be a Nittany Lion

per Fight on State:

http://pennstate.scout.com/2/822004.html

This is great news and makes Devlins transfer a little less hard to swallow.  What a week for PSU recruiting.  Things are looking up.

and, to get to 75 words, I present the alma mater:

For the glory of old State,
For her founders strong and great,
For the future that we wait,
Raise the song, raise the song.

Sing our love and loyalty,
Sing our hopes that, bright and free,
Rest, O Mother dear, with thee,
All with thee, all with thee.

When we stood at childhood's gate,
Shapeless in the hands of fate,
Thou didst mold us, dear old State,
Dear old State, dear old State.

May no act of ours bring shame
To one heart that loves thy name,
May our lives but swell thy fame,
Dear old State, dear old State.

marshmallows at the Illinois game

It seems that a number of the students are planning to show up with Marshmallows.  How long until it gets out of hand?  End of the 2nd quarter?

I remember when I was first a student there was a rain of junk after a score.  I was glad when they cleaned that behavior up but never minded the marshmallows.  Unfortunately there are always a few people who take it too far.

Curtis Drake verbals

Since its been published by philly.com I thought I'd start a new post.

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/20080611_West_Catholic_s_Drake_picks_Penn_State.html

From the article:

Curtis Drake, a 6-foot, 175-pound quarterback from West Catholic High, gave Penn State an oral commitment during a visit yesterday.

Drake said that he had all but made up his mind before yesterday's trip but made the trek to State College for the sake of his mother, Schante Smith Roberson, and his stepfather, Robert Roberson.

They met with Drake's recruiters, assistants Ron Vanderlinden and Mike McQueary, and head coach Joe Paterno. At the conclusion of the meeting, Drake informed them of his decision.

"I just liked everything about the school," said Drake, who had an offer from Northwestern and was attracting attention from Georgia Tech and Maryland. "I've already been up two times before and just felt comfortable."

Congratulations Curtis and best of luck!
