Daily Norseman Questions for a fan??

I pop on DN for good input from fellow die-hard fans. I don't typically create a post but after following some of the story lines this off-season and picking apart numerous roster moves by our new H.C. And front office, I am posed to ask some important questions, that maybe some of you with a better football IQ, can help me understand. I am so excited for the new season, especially with the new regime. I feel we had our window under Childress and with a lack of leadership and zero "vision" the obvious, shot a SB victory is in our rear-view mirrors. I still think we are close, but now is especially crucial to make every roster move count. I like the Ponder pick, and I am personally a Mcnabb fan. That being said, here are a few questions I would love your thoughts on. We have covered some of the obvious on here before but, I am still unsure how this could even be am issue. 1- I understand the "lockout" prevented communication wbetween coaches and players, but, how could the Vikes have no idea the condition of Mckinnie? This is such a big deal, a billion dollar business and we have no idea one of our key lineman is so out of shape , he had to be sidelined? 2- Watching some of the Pre-season games , I see so much WR depth on some of these teams, how can we really start a season with such a mediocre group of WR's? We depend on AP to carry the team, yet we have nobody on our squad that can stretch the field enough to make the defense spreadin the least? Even as I watch Cotchery catch a TD for Pitt, I get bothered that we didn't make a play at him, very affordable playmaker. 3.) It is almost embarrassing that we are about to begin the season with a makeshift O-line? Let's put aside the fact that I highly question the fact we have a WR that can keep the defense from completely stacking the box, We have the best RB in the game. It is hard to stomach watching these guys fumble around this guy and that guy. There were a handful of tackles and guards that could have really improved our line. Why was this not addressed? 4.) Resigning AP, and Greenway. Given the shape of our line and our roster, is there a worry AP will want to test the open market? I fear he may, he could set every record with a decent line, imagine what he could accomplish behind a great line? 5) ReAlly, this is my main question? I read we are 3rd, I believe, in the league , regarding Cap space. How can we be so short of cap room, with such an average group of players? I just don't understand it, someone pleAse explain? I know that is partly why we couldn't sign more players, I just don't understand that, given our roster. It alarms me. To conclude , I love our team and love my Vikings. I really dont want to come across as complaining or "the sky is f@$&ing" falling, I just see us "trapped" in the middle of ... Are we rebuilding? Or trying to win now? Because either way, I do t see us rebuilding and fear winning now looks meek as well. Thanks for letting me ask some ?s and vent all in one breathe! Skol-

Daily Norseman After the headlines.......

Are we really playoff worthy?

I, much like alot of you , have been riding the high and spirit of the 2009 season. I enjoyed watching our squad more last year than any year since 1998. In this offseason, we all sat back and watched the media make fools of themselves trying their hardest to create a story where none truly existed. If you lived in any other part of the country, you would have a completely different take of our team than it really is. That aside, we all just kept about our business knowing in the back of our minds, the Big Guy would show up on his white horse. You know what? He did! Through all the commotion and chaos, a team was being constructed and pieces were quietly being put in place , or where they?

We are now 2 weeks from the start of our 2010 camapaign and I have tons more questions than answers. Here are just a few, and please understand that I am a die hard Vikings fan, and I am not trying to be a downer @ all. I just really feel after watching the San Fran game, that I may need to "adjust" my expectations in fear of being let down yet again.

Here are some questions that hopefully some of you with a better football mind can answer???

1. Is Brett in trouble? - I have seen nothing in the PreSeason that leads me to believe that Brett can feel comfortable in the Pocket.  Our O-Line looks less than stellar, and this IMO will deflate both #4s protection, as well as our RUnning game.

2.(or1a) O-Line- I was so excited to see the improvement in AP's game this year, and the addition of Gerhardt. Albert Young looks nothing more than below average, and Gerhardt looks slightly better. Can either of these guys be a fragment of what CHester could bring to the table? How many 3rd and 8s or 10s did Chester himself convert to a 1st down. We had one of the highest or the highest 3rd down conversion ratio last year. Chester was a huge reason for that. I think this could be our largest loss this offseason. IYO what can we do?

3. Defense-  Some  speak of this Bigtime D. I am still concerned about our secondary. Are we improved? I havent seen enough to feel like we are ...What do you think?

4. WR- We alledgedly are in contract negotiations with Javon Walker???? Is there really nobody else out there? I know he had elite talent at one point, but really?  Coming into this season I felt we had the best if not top 3 WR talent, which we do.  SHould we convert Webb to WR, he could be a beast!! Are there any other options, until we are healthy!

I am fully expecting our Boyz to get it all together, and make a Superbowl run. I know every team is dealing with issues, but I think the largest need, or our most glaring area is O-line. It hides alot of issues when you have a solid crew.. Also, when Richardson was here lead blocking ,AP had his huge year. Is there a lorenzo Neal or Richardson type guy out there, that we can lean on? I am totally fired up for the season, but I was hoping some of you could shed some light on these areas?

THanks
