Purdue Crew Has A Strong Showing at the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta
At the largest collegiate rowing event in the country Purdue University topped 118 other crews to win the Aberdeen Dad Vail Overall points trophy. Several of Purdue's boats took home gold with the charge being led by the Women's Varsity 8+ in the premier event. The women beat Old Dominion by a mere 0.33 seconds followed by Grand Valley State. The Purdue Men's Novice (first year rowers) had an extremely strong showing as well winning both the Novice Lightweight 8+ and Heavyweight 8+ events. The Women's Novice Heavyweight 8+ had a strong showing getting the silver medal in their event.
Purdue Crew is one of the oldest club programs at Purdue and considered one of the premier club teams in the rowing world. These accomplishments at the Aberdeen Dad Vail regatta were against not only other club programs but several varsity programs that Purdue competes against annually.
An interesting side note, one of the women that was in the victorious HW 8+ event was a senior that not only missed commencement at Purdue on Saturday, but was also in ROTC and missed commissioning with her fellow students. A special commissioning ceremony actually took place on the awards dock in front of the crowd watching the races.
