The Collector Writes...
An issued statement from Braun's urine collector. I'm really interested to see Das' written decision now.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke called Hairston a "plus" center fielder
sure Ron, he of the -39 UZR/150 in CF this season, -3 in OF overall. His career numbers are above average because of a phenomenal 2006 season and an okay 2008.

Brewers the "Least Battley" Team
I guess we're no longer gritty
BrewCrewBall Photoshops in the spirit of the Nyjer meme
Continuing the LL Nyjer Morgan theme with a picture of the Pirates Andrew McCutchen. Come participate.
Kotsay to see action in center~?
I guess Boggs is not considered worthy of a start. Or playtime for that matter.
WOW~!
Today's game @Pitt Pirates rained out
oooh...did I get a fanshot in before anyone else?
as per Tom Haudricourt
(therefore the offensive blackhole of a lineup doesn't count)
Opening-Day Injury Report & Roster (Update)
DL: Greinke, Hawkins, Parra, Hart, Lucroy
Day to day: Marcum
current 25 man roster - updated 3/30 (+Reed+Almonte-Hart-Lucroy-Rogers)
Kintzler is expected to go down Apr 5th/6th in favor of Estrada, who is slated to make a start on the 6th.
Brewers (and ChiSox) leaders in injury prevention
Neyer article
Right-hander Mark DiFelice, who missed all of 2010 following shoulder surgery, re-signed with the Brewers for 2011.
Injuries
Joe Inglett - "Ankle - Questionable for June 14-16 series at L.A. Angels"
Doug Davis - 15 Day DL for inflammation around the heart. "He is targeting a June 29 return to the Brewers' rotation" " threw bullpen sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. " Two MiLB appearances scheduled
Todd Coffey -15-day DL. Thumb. "Out until at least late June" but is playing catch and will make at least one rehab appearance before being activated.
Marco "Polo" Estrada - 15 Day DL with shoulder weakness. Probably will be optioned to AAA or AA when activated.
Latroy "Tony" Hawk(ins) - 60 day DL shoulder weakness. Out for a while. CBS says "late June" but I don't think that meets the 60 day requirement.
Gregg Zaugggn - 60 day DL officially. Season-ending surgery scheduled (or already happened last week?).
Jody Gerut - 15 day DL. Heel. With Hart performing well, I could see them stashing Gerut on the DL for a while yet, at least until Edmonds gets hurt again
Mat "the batt" Gamel - activated from 60 day DL. Rehabbing at AAA at the moment and doing pretty well (.828 OPS across all levels this season; only a .674 MLE OPS though). His activation on the 40 man roster was what caused the waiver of HEETHER!
David Riske is back on the active roster, pitching pretty well so far. Cappy is back as well, doing less well.

Neighborhood scouting report: Craig Counsell
From my dad: "CC was out cutting the grass this morning. I would think if I had a 2 Million set of hands and back, I would not be bouncing them on a riding mower. I used to do 2 acres at my folks house and sometimes I couldn't walk when I got off the mower. Power mowers also occasionally eat fingers and toes. I just wouldn't take that chance if I was making that kind of money and needed all my digits and a functioning spine to do so."
Think Suppan has some time to kill now?
In the first four hours after the Marlins put them on sale Tuesday, more than 3,000 unused tickets from Saturday's perfect game by Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay were sold.
Injury report
Jim Edmonds is back - Stern was sent down to make room
Craig Counsell has a "minor quadriceps injury"
Joe Inglett's left ankle is still sprained
Todd Coffey hurt his thumb WHILE BATTING and was unavailable in yesterday's game
Doug Davis had additional heart problems a couple of days ago, so can be expected to be out for a bit longer
I haven't heard an update on Gregg Zaun recently, but last I heard, he was going to attempt to rehab but was in severe pain.

Former Brewers Galore
oh my!
This Indians article is about 3 11 former Brewers system players:
Branyan, Brantley, and the LaPortas
"Brantley, a prized acquisition in the 2008 CC Sabathia trade with the Brewers" - um....he wasn't the "prized" one...he was a PTBNL whereas LaPorta WAS the prize.

Strasburg BCB East Coast Meetup
Is there any interest in east coast (ie PA, NY, NJ, MD) BCBers going to a non-brewers related baseball event?
I was thinking we could arrange finding out when there's a Strasburg start in Harrisburg, PA about a month from now. It'd be a AA game.
Do AA pitchers pitch on a 5 day or 5 game rotation? or something else? ie, how far ahead of time should we be able to predict when he starts?
Parra to have surgery (along with Counsell, Looper, McGehee)
" Parra will undergo what a club official stressed was a routine surgery Tuesday to clean up the AC joint in his left shoulder. The procedure has been planned for some time, and the injury did not prevent Parra from making his final starts of the season. "
Pags needs your help: FDM name
So...I'm considering blogging for this FireDougMelvin thing, because apparently my week isn't filled up enough with my quota of irrelevant bullshit. In any case, I would like my blogging name to have some meaning beyond what my brewcrewball one does, which was simply decided because I had played a game with my character name "Pags" back in the day, but that one was already claimed on cbssportsline.com, which I discovered before BCB. So...since I was a fan of the BrewCrew, I became PagsBrewCrew. Pretty lame. But that lameness is exactly why I need your help.
So, I would like to have a brand new nickname for picking apart Doug Melvin, because he should be viewed as sucking more than my nickname. This is all assuming my ideas don't suck worse than his. But without further ado (because I'm likely past the minimum word limit now) here are the options.
Deputy Braun (suggested by Fatter than Joey) - Ryan Braun and Doug Melvin had a disagreement earlier this year, at the end of which Melvin said "I'll be glad to have Ryan help if he wants to. I'll give him a badge and he can be my deputy."
I Shot the Sheriff (mine) - FtJ and I were thinking along similar wavelengths here. If Braun is the Deputy, that makes Melvin the Sheriff. And we want the Sheriff to be gone, evoking imagery of the reggae hit "I shot the sheriff" performed by Bob Marley and Eric Clapton, among others
Gord's Melon (suggested by TheJay) - Gord Ash is a potential GM-in-waiting. We don't know how good he'd be in the big seat though. On the plus side, it also suggests a career alternative to Melvin (he should be a pumpkin or watermelon farmer, because he sucks at this baseball thing)
Game Thread #110: Brewers at Astros (54-55 each)
So, the winner of this matchup gets up to .500. Someone pitches against someone else and some of our relievers were used last night. Further, we're sending 8 guys plus a pitcher to bat against Coop's squad.
I loves me some Craig Counsell!
(and no, I'm not drunk right now)
Jack Z angling to get fired on Day One - FireNedYost.com may have a buyer soon
"SEATTLE - New Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik says recently fired Milwaukee Brewers manager Ned Yost and Seattle interim manager Jim Riggleman are two candidates to be Seattle's new skipper in 2009. "
Some Brewers guy going by CC wins award
Chris Capuano won the MLB Clutch Performer award
from the title of the article:
CC claims Clutch Performer award
Left-handed hurler dazzled down the stretch for Brewers
because that's the only CC on the brewers that I can think of other than Craig Counsell, and I wouldn't describe him as a hurler other than after the WC clinching victory party! He bats left so maybe it is him afterall.
A position-by-position analysis
Well, it's officially the post-season now for the Brewers faithful. As selfish homers, those like me can safely ignore what happens from here on out in the playoffs, as none of those teams include the Brewers (or for that matter, the Cubs).
In any case, I thought I'd get together a Post to sort out where I think we stand as well as to open it up to discussion for other BrewCrewBall'ers.
I'll go through this discussion position-by-position (rather than individual-by-individual).
Who do you think will be back next season? Who do you think we should sign off the free-agent market? Who should we trade away and trade for? Who should we unceremoniously toss by the side of the road, existing contract to be paid and all?
Please reply in the thread under each position.

Coop speaks out about the series in Miller Park vs Cubs
From another sbnation blog.
The quotes of CcC (not to be confused with CC or C.C.) quoted don't seem to indicate that he had a problem with Bud's decision, but that's the author's take.
In any case, anyone know what else Cecil may have said?
Philadelphia Phillies at Chicago Cubs (Thurs 8/28/08)
Cole Hamels (3.20 ERA 11-8) vs Ryan Dempster (2.85 ERA 15-5)
I'd say the Phillies have about a 30% chance of an upset at Chicago, but here's praying for a miracle!
Gametime is 7:05 Central (as in now)

P.S. Anyone know if this is carried on any of the networks or the "special" channels?
Pitchers' Hitting Streak Ends
The Milwaukee Brewers pitchers had hits in every game from Sat July 12th to Mon July 21st. That's a streak of 6 games. Unfortunately that streak is no longer.
However, CC Sabathia has a two game hitting streak going of his own. Perhaps he'd have a 3 4+ game hitting streak, but he was pulled in his first game as a Brewer after a "mere" 6 innings, cheating him of at least one AB (and Joe Dillon DID get a pinch hit for David Riske in that game). In his previous and only other hitting-eligible game (6/21 Cleveland vs the LA Dodgers) he was 1 for 3 with a homerun in 7 innings of work.
I would have to confirm this by going back to last years' games, but seeing as I'm too lazy for that, let me make the grandiose claim that if CC works for 6 2/3 inning or longer, he will get a hit.
Question from a Visiting Team's Fan
Hi there. I currently live in the Sacramento area, but I've been a lifelong Brewers fan. So, I'd like to come out to catch a game this weekend, and will probably come to the Saturday afternoon game.
The question I have is do Giants games often sellout certain price ranges? Am I best getting a ticket in advance or showing up on gameday? Would I be likely to have better luck with the box office or scalpers if I show up on the day of the game without a ticket?
The matchup is Sheets vs Sanchez and the game is at 1PM on Saturday, if that has any impact on attendance.
Thanks much
Tavarez signs with the Braves
No word yet if the Braves signed the document as well;)
