Final Thoughts Before The Draft

I just wanna start by saying I have seen every single top 10 prospect aside from Shariff Floyd and Star Loteluei mocked to the Bills. That being said I needed to vent/opine 5 days before we make the 8th overall selection.

My thoughts are this, we are in dire need of 2 positions. WR and ILB. I would love to see the Bills leave the 1st round with 1 of these positions filled with a ready from day 1 player. Who fits that criteria in this draft class? I personally can't answer that because I personally don't watch NCAA football very often. I base my opinions on that of others on this specific site and what the so call draft "pundits" have to say. What have ya'll been saying? From what I can read and tell I would say Alec Ogeltree, Tavon Austin, Kevin Minter fit this criteria.

The positions we are supposedly in need of are LB,WR,G,SS and QB (According to NFL.Com).While I could definatly get behind drafting a QB at #8 i'm not so sure its in Buffalo's best interests. With the signing of Kolb we don't need a plug and play QB as we have afforded ourselves the (assumed) luxury that Kolb could fill a void for us for at least a season. i would say i agree with this. I think Kolb deserves a chance to prove he can be the guy. With Cliff and Freddie in the back field and Stevie and hopefully a high investment WR on the outside, I think Kolb could play quite well with these weapons and this offensive line.

Guard at #8? I can't honestly remember the last time a G let alone 2 G's were talked about this highly before the draft. Now is that because the overall talent just isn't there or is it because these 2 kids are just that good? Again, I don't know, but I will say this. If both of these kids are perennial pro bowlers, and the Bills don't draft either one, they will look back and regret not drafting these kids because they are THAT GOOD.

The Bills for the past 4 seasons under Buddy Nix haven't been the easiest team to predict when it comes to the draft. First it was the Spiller pick, everyone went wha?????? Then the Dareus pick which would have been Newton if he was there and I honestly think it would have been Miller if he was there (pretty easy to predict that one) and then last year with Gilmore. I mean if Kuechly is there I think he's the pick but Buffalo was kind of the wild card. Buddy hasn't missed yet since he's been here. I would argue all three first round picks have turned out quite well. Gilore looks poised to be a shutdown guy, Spiller is Spiller and Dareus needs to have a full year without any off fields issue's and decent defensive game plan.

My consensus. I want a plug and play guy, regardless of position. I want the best player not necessarily the easiest player (Barkley/Nassib). We need impact WR's regardless of when or how we get them, we NEED them. Trading down seems to look more like a viable option now that Miami has struggled to find a LT and St. Louis fears Tavoin Austin might not be there. Buddy hasn't missed a 1st rounder yet, so I have faith, I actually have alot of faith in buddy's ability to scout talent, I am just tired of hearing 8 different guys that we are going to take. Whether it be Austin, Ogeltree, Warmack, Cooper, Nassib, Fisher, Barkley, Patterson, Jones or Jordan let's just get this party started!

Lost In The Draft Hype

Just a quick little mind dump:

Lost in all the draft hype and QB talk has been The Bills inability to address the serious lack of talent and depth at LB. I have been the first person to advocate for The Bills to base this draft solely on making this offense better and adding offensive weapons. But in all seriousness this team has some major issues at LB. Nigel Bradham really is the only reasonable player at the position, and thats a strecth. Kelvin Shephard has shown he is not fitted to play LB at the NFL level and Bryan Scott is not and never will be an NFL LB on an every down basis let alone in just plain old Nickel. I know we are still 2 weeks away from the draft but seriously we better do something to improve the position or we are in some serious trouble. We don't need to add just 1, I truly beleive we need to add 3 or 4. We need a complete overhaul at the position. We need depth, we need starters and we need some veteran leadership. Manny Lawson is a good start but he is definatly not nearly enough.

ESPN is reporting that Matt FLynn has been traded to the Raiders and that the Raiders have traded Carson Palmer to the Cardinals. Well then. That certainly changes everything doesn't it.

With Flynn in Oakland my guess is they take 1 of the DT's available or the top end LT's. Same goes for Arizona. Arizona's offensive line is abysmal and they will do whatever it takes to keep Palmer upright. They know if they can keep him clean he is a well above average QB. With these 2 things happening the market for QB just a heck of alot smaller and the probability of Geno being there at #8 is all the more likely. Still I dont want Geno at #8.

So I propose the following:

The Bills trade out of #8 to who I don't know because when you look at the draft board all the teams that need QB's are in front of us aside from the Jets but they pick 9th so you wouldn't get much in terms of compensation. So I will go with Carolina. We swap with Carolina and pick up a 2nd to go along with the 14th pick. With the 14th pick take Warmack or Patterson whoever is there. Then at 41 take Bray,Wilson,Nassib, Glennon or whoever the team feels is best then take Carolin'as #2 and use it on what you didnt get at 14 a G or a WR. Then picks 3 4 and 5 should be on LB's

Dreams vs Reality

Free Agency started and I knew Buffalo was limited. I knew we wouldn't be signing any more Mario Williams contracts. I knew we would be hard pressed to grab big names. I had no idea we would stand completly pat.

Manny Lawson is a great addition and really fits the type of player George Edwards wished he had when he transitioned this defense to a 3-4. He repreents the move to a hybrid and I commend Buddy grabbing him for a very reasonable price.

This is where I would like to dedicate this entire post to my dream scenario based on what is remaining to my actual perception of what is going to really happen. Cue the dream:

Jake Long 3 yrs/12 Mill (6 guaranteed) - Move Cordy to RT or alternativly put Jake at RT.

Karlos Dansby 2yrs/6 Mill (Guaranteed) - Could be an every down LB that never comes off the field.

Kevin Burnett 2 yrs/4.5 Mill (Guaranteed) - Miami's other LB that no one talks about, that we had wished we signed 3 yrs ago.

Aqib Talib - 1 yr/3.5 Mill (Guaranteed)

Denario Alexander - 4 yrs/6.5 Mill (500,000 signing bonus) and a pick of

Michael Turner/Peyton Hillis/Ahmad Bradshaw - GL back 1yr veteran minimum Cue Reality:

1 of Brad Jones/Karlos Dansby/Kevin Burnett - 3 yrs 10 Mill (6 Guaranteed) and thats it to be honest.

I for some reason or another cannot fathom Buddy dropping our cash on some of these guys based on principle. I dont get it. I know we have to spend our money based on the CBA so I am left wondering why we haven't even contacted these guys. maybe we have and the Bills just do a fantastic job of keeping stuff on the inside.

Finding out that we made Mike DeVito a priority really worries me. Delaney Walker I understand but Mike DeVito?????? Especially with guys like Knighton, Dorsey, Pouha and Soapawaga available.

Have at it fellas, This is a place where we can only hope so we might aswell. Feel free to compare your dreams (Bills related) vs your perceived reality.

Assessing The Roster Right Before Free Agency

First off before I start I would like to say the sinisism on this site is getting worse and worse. Just throwing it out there.

QB: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tavaris Jackson As much as I would love to see the Bills cut Fitzy, I can honestly say I don't think it will happen. Needless to say going forward this position needs to change. There are literally no options in FA. Gotta be upgraded via the draft. And I for 1 can say i would not be dissapointed if we pulled a Redskins and drafted 2.

RB/FB: CJ Spiller, Fred Jackson By far and away the strongest position on the team. We have 2 franchise calibre RB's and Buddy and his entire staff know this. it seems as if The Bills always seem to have a surplus at the RB position. Could be worse we couldn't have CJ and Fred.

WR: Stevie Johnson, Brad Smith, T.J. Graham We have a franchise WR in Stevie and a converted QB and a converted Track star. Glaring weakness in desperate need of an influx in talent. I would Love to see this addressed via the draft at #8 because we need to invest something significant here if our QB situation is going to get better.

TE: Lee Smith, Scott Chandler Pretty solid IMHO, we have a full time blocker who is extremley good at his craft and a 6'7 pass catching decent run blocking TE. Unfortunatly he is coming off ACL surgery and is a virtual unknown. So to say we need a body would be a wise thing. What kind of body is where some will come into conflict. Do we invest signifcant money/draft position or do we fill we marginal at best? A very good question.

OL: Cordy Glenn, Chris Hairston, Eric Wood, Kraig Urbik, Colin Brown, Eric Peras, Sam Young, David Snow Outlook good. 2 Potential pro bowlers in Wood and Glenn, quality starters in Urbik and Hairston. With depth in position with Pears, Young, and Brown We need fillers not superstars. I am quite happy with the job Buddy has done with this OL. I 100% trust his judgement when it comes to the OL. So I am not overly concerned with this group of 5 positions.

DL: Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, Marcell Dareus, Torrel Troup, Alex Carrington and another DT(can't think of his name) As good as it's going to get at the NFL level. Significant money and draft picks invested here. Move Carrington to DE(again) and live to see another day fill the depth with undrafteds and retreads. no need to use valuable money or picks to improve here.

LB: Kelvin Sheppard, Nigel Bradham, Arthur Moats This is where it gets scary. Bradham meets Pettine's need for LB's. Fast, strong and versatile. My only concern with Bradham is lack of focus. Sheppard has had 3 years to "prove" it. He hasn't. is he capable of filling a gap? yeah maybe, but can he shed fill and make the play? NO. The Bills NEED to improve here and it needs to happen with significant money and draft picks. i would love nothing more than for the Bills to acknowledge this early in FA and pick up Player (S) with something to prove. i dont care about names. I want talent. There's Talent to be had in both the draft and in FA. make it Happen.

DB/FS/SS: Jarius Byrd, Da'Norris Searcy, Mana Silva, Aaron Williams, Ron Brooks, Stephon Gilmore, Leodis McKelvin, Justin Rogers I am going to be in the minority here when i say I am completly comfortable with the Bills staying pat in the secondary. I have faith in Gilmore, i have faith in McKelvin, i have faith in Byrd and I have faith in Searcy. these are all extremly young guys. They have learned 3 different defensive systems in 3 years. They just need time and help from the pass rush, but they need time to develop. we have invested serious draft picks and money into this group. It's time to let them work.

ST: Lindell, Sanborn, Powell I am ok with this group and don't want to type anymore.

Some Thoughts On The WGR Post I Read Today

I'm not sure how many readers read it today but there was an article on how the Bills draft looks murkier now that we have announced we will not be resigning Nelson and Jones, we released Barnett and Wilson, the injury to Chandler and finally our youth at DB. I am going to shed some of my personal insight on the situation and please feel free to let me know your thoughts.

Firstly, I would like to start by saying when you finish 6-10 in consecutive seasons and prior to that you finished 4-12 something needs to be done. I get the strange feeling that some people seem to think this Bills team is filled with unique talent. Reality check....it's not. Letting Nelson walk and Jones wallk not only clears up cap space but it allows the Bills to add fresh talent to a position that has lacked it on this team for a very very long time and is due for injection of fresh blood.

Secondly, with the releasing of Barnett and Wilson; again, the Bills make space for players to come here with something to prove. Wilson was a great locker room presence but really a non presence on the football field. His inability to cover TE's coupled with his declining athleticism he was a perfect candidate to be released. Barnett, who Brian claimed to be our only capable LB of staying on the field, was declining in every shape of the word. Numerous times this season he drastically out of position, missed tackles and blew coverages. He actually deserved to be released.

Thirdly, Chandlers' injury while significant clears the way for the Bills to actually finally invest some time and effort into a position that has been crying for it for a long time. Whether be via FA or draft the Bills have been in dyer need for TE that can make plays. Chandler has shown flashes but is as consistent as this football team as a whole.... NOT VERY.

Lastly, the youth at corner. We have spent in the past 5 years. 2 1st round picks, a 2nd round pick, a 4th round pick and a 6th round pick. This is who we currently employ as our defensive backfield (this is excluding Searcy) We employ who we drafted.....WEIRD. This team is definatly better off than alot of teams in the NFL a corner. We are not in dyer need to be using our 8th overall selection on DB and for the sake and future of this team we better not take a corner at number 8.

Summary.

The point I am getting at is this team needed talent regardless of whether we had any of these guys or didn't have any of these guys on this football team. Did we need an upgrade over Wilson? YES. Did we need an upgrade over Barnett? YES. Do we need more talent at WR? ABSOLUTLY! So whether we released or kept them we would be adding guys anyway, so why not create the roster space and bring in some young guys, FA or players with something to prove. You were going to have to do it anyways. Show the roster holdovers you mean business, your not going to perform.... Your gone! I like the mentality and quite frankly hope to see alot of new faces come training camp and the regular season because honestly, I don't think we could do a whole lot worse.

The Jet No One Is Talking About

Dustin Keller!

I Like this scenario because he is exactly what The Bills need. He would give the Bills the oppoptunity to have dual threat TE (Chandler & Keller), He would also be insurance in case Chandler does not return to form, and he would come relativly cheap due to injuries keeping him out basically all of last year.

There are 3 reasons why I think this is a possibility. Like I mentioned above he is coming off an injury rittled season so he shouldn't come with a huge price tag. Secondly, we would be taking him away from the Jets, and thirdly, he is a character guy. This is a guy who played in New York when everything was hitting the fan and he just quietly went about his business, staying out of the media. It's very easy to get frustrated and just say something you may regret later but Keller never said a peep.

1st: T-Jax Re-Signing: I stated it on the open thread and might have been the first to make the comparison :), but this move screams Miami Dolphins last year and might be the best possible way to say "you suck, but your alot better then anything else available". Jason Campbell, Matt Moore and the other members of the Veteran pooh pooh platter available are NOT better options then Tavaris. He was here, understands the roster, and will come to camp rejuvenated. To me this speaks more volumes about Marrone than anything else. He is basically saying " you didn't get a fair shake last year, play for me and you will get a fair shake". What does that say to the other 52 members of this football team? To me it says you know what, I'm not Chan Gailey, I'm Doug Marrone and "Things they are a changin"! 2nd: 2013 Draft: Do we need a new QB? Yes. Does it have to be at #8? No. Does it have to be in the 2nd round? No, borderline maybe. Does it have to be in the 3rd round? Yes, here or the 2 picks before. IMHO there is no way you can take a kid to "groom" in round 4 or later. The only QB I can think of that was drafted past the 3rd that has had any reasonable succes lately, is Kirk Cousins. If you want to call that success. I totally believe in Buddy Nix's ability to evaluate talent, and if he deems a kid " A FIT " in round 1, 2 or 3, I trust it will be the right decision. Who has Buddy had a chance to draft and hasn't? Russell Wilson, Colin Keapernick, Brandon Weeden, Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker, Andy Dalton, Kirk Cousins. I might be missing 1 or 2 guys but of that list; really, the only kid I would want is Russell Wilson. I am pretty sure like 68 or 69 picks were made before he was taken including Seattle's first 2 picks (side note: If you had of told Seattle Russell Wilson was going to be what he is, they would have taken him in the 1st round, not the third). So, Draft a QB? Yes. In the 1st, 2nd or 3rd but we better make damn sure that the other 2 picks where we don't take a QB are absolute hits!as well. We need LB's so badly its not even funny. I would almost argue we need an impact LB or 2 more than we need a QB. (I'm gunna take alot of heat for this) 3rd: Free Agency: I posted a list of FA LB's earlier this week in an open thread (Brians Need List)and really there are about 3 relativly decent options IMHO (outside of Ellerbe, Kruger who WILL be retained by Baltimore) Connor Barwin, Tavares Gooden and Rey Mauluaga. (or however you spell it) FA WR's are a little bit different. Wallace, Bowe, Welker (maybe), Barden, Jennings, Amendola, Hartline and some other vets. Wallace wants money, Bowe wants to win, Welker (if not franchised) will want to stick it to Belicheck, Barden just wants a job, Jennings wants warmth and the others I don't know but there are definatly options at WR. So this is where we need to concentrate our attention in FA. WR needs to be a FA priority and maybe even a later draft pick. 4th: Other: - Marrone will bring a totally different mentality to the Buffalo sidelines, something "us" fans have not seen in a long while. He is a thinking man, a man that will try the onside kick to start the 2nd half, the guy that will go for the house on the first play of the game. I am excitied for Marrone. - OC. What more can ya say about a 30 something OC? He's gotta be creative or he wouldn't have got the job, Hes gotta be a smart young man or else he wouldn't have got the job. It really will be the make or break part of the Bills this year, IMHO. Can Hackett, Hack it??????? - Mario Williams! Oh Mario, Please show up to camp in the best shape of your career. Please come out and dominate and show signs of what made you the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. Please work hand in hand with the other 2 studs on our DL that made us "look" like we would have had the most dominant DL in the NFL at the beginning of last year! - Released Veterans around the League. I don't know about you guys but I would love nothing more than for the Bills to get Woodson or Freeney relativly cheap and have them play out their careers in Buffalo to stick it to the GM's that "thought" these guys were done! Finally, I will end with this. It's February 16th, 2013. Let's try as fans to keep things in perspective. It's hard, oh god I know it's hard (I was the guy last year when we signed Mario that called all his buddies and said look out! Buffalo is on their way back to the playoffs)But I mean we are resigning our depth guys right now and people are already calling this offseason a failure because we haven't addressed the QB situation yet. It WILL happen and if it doesn't I will be completly and udderly shocked. I am just saying this is an amazing site and sometimes it just gets to be overwhelming with the negativity towards the everyday business that the Bills HAVE to do to keep this football team running. Posting it's the end of the world on a Colin Brown re-signing thread; to me at least, is a little to much.

Haven't Been Around For A While.

Hello all, I haven't had a post on Buffalo Rumblings for almost an entire calendar year and I felt it was time for me to come out of the woodwork haha.

I just wanted to touch on few things that I feel is either flying under the radar or kind of going unnoticed (in my mind at least).

1.) The aquisition of Travaris Jackson in a year when we play the NFC West:

I can't honestly sit here and say that I am over joyed with the aquisition of Travaris Jackson but I can't say that it bothers me that much either. Is tyler Thigpen the answer? NO, is Vince Young the answer? NO so why not at least bring a guy in that has 2 years exp against a division we don't see very often and in a year where we definatly feel we can contend. I honestly feel this is a very smart move by Buddy Nix. Not only does this move give us some extra scouting help it gives us a guy that has proven he can at least start and not be awful in the NFL.

2.) Kirk Morrison taking reps at ILB:

Now before I go any further I just want to say i haven't had a chance to see the pittsburgh game yet. But Kelvin Sheppard has not shown me he can be a legitimate starting MLB in the NFL, Kirk Morrison on the other hand has,and actually had some really good years in Oakland and in Jacksonville. Are those years behind him? Maybe, but I am willing to give him a shot and let Kelvin develop a bit more? I am. I am sorry, but through my eyes, we need someone other than Kelvin in the middle this year (at least from what i have seen).

3.) If Luke Keuchly was available we would have drafted him:

I have had the luxury of seeing the Carolina Panthers play all 3 pre season games (sarcastic) but in my time of viewing these games Kuechly has been a beast. Stout against the run and great against the pass and he's only going to get better.

4.) Our Secondary has been below average:

Going into the draft there were many rumblings that we needed some help in the secondary, that couldn't have been more accurate as we drafted 2 CB's (Gilmore and Brooks) and had below average play from our CB's in 2011. Well Forence is gone, mcgee is a shadow of his former self and McKelvin well has been McKelvin as consistent as my wives sex drive hahahah (lacking). But it's been the lack of play from Williams and Gilmore that has me concerned a bit. Rogers is coming back and Brooks looks to be very raw but he has shown some upside so hopefully we can turn this around heading into the season and at the very least have a bunch of young energetic corners challenging jump balls and getting in throwing lanes.

5.) Our Offence will be fine:

I can tell Chan is holding back a bit so far in pre season. he hasn't had David run any seam routes (at least in the first 2 games) He hasn't let Cj or Fred run those under route screens that work so effectivly and Stevie for the most part has been taking it easy coming off the surgery. We are going to be in tough week 1 in NY against a very good D but I have a good feeling about our offence I really do.

6.) The Last 1, The importance of our Week 1 game!

I had a friend ask me last year if Buffalo was legit, we were 5-2 at the time and were just coming off our win over the Redskins and I replied " The whole season will come down to this weeks game against the Jets, if we beat the Jets I can definatly see playoffs and if we lose, we will lose bad and our season will go down the sh***er " Well we lost, we lost bad and our season went down the crapper. Alot of people (including me) believed that win over the Pats was the first stepping stone,and as nice and as awesome as that was, it really didn't do anything for us other then put us on the National scene when we weren't ready for the limelight. We are ready for the limelight this year our offseason proved that but we NEED and I reitterate NEED to beat the Jets. Since Rex was hired in NY they have dominated us (yes I know we won that game when Sanchez through like 6 picks but we barley won a game where the opposing QB threw 6 picks) The Jets have owned us and we really really need to turn a new leaf and walk into NY and beat them. Not only would it make us 1-0 but it makes a divisional rival 0-1 and it gives us Home Field advantage for the rest of the year. We need the W in week 1. I can honestly sit here and say/type this if we don't win week 1 against the Jets, we won't make the playoffs.

It's alittle dissapointing to see a guy like Nash slip through the cracks, and a ton of people are either dissapointed or glad we didn't get Nash, but there are still a ton of upgrades available on the Market and multiple options the Raps could explore:

Available FA's (upgrades over what we have on the roster):

Shannon Brown, Brandon Bass, Jeff Green, Kirk Heinrich, Ersan Ilyasova, Antawn Jamieson, Chris Kaman, Carl Landry, O.J Mayo, Javale McGee, Ramon Sessions, J.R. Smith, Nick Young, Brandon Roy

Here's my take:

Amnesty either Kleiza or Amir and forget about the Landry Fields offer (provided the reports are true and they never actually agreed).

Throw a ton of cash at the combination of Jeff Green, Ersan Ilyasova and Chris Kaman.

Try and move Derozan and Bayless together to whoever will take them and get whatever you can get back, I'm thinking Denver, Uriji might owes Bryan a favour. looking at Denvers roster I like Corey Brewer, or Jordan Hamilton or maybe even the Birdman depending on circumstances.

So at 5 we have the combo of Valuncunias and Kaman solid veteran leadership and a young rook

at 4 we have Bargs and Ed and maybe Birdman

3 we have Ilyasova, James Johnson and possibly Brewer or Hamilton

Play Jeff Green at 2 with Ross coming off the bench

Keep Uzoh and have Calderon log big minutes.

Now if you don't like my combination of 3 you could really add any 3 from that list provided they fit all together.

Ideally if I were to only add 2 I would go with Ilyasova and Mayo. Mayo would give us an alpha male at 2 which is what we desperatley need and Ilyasova just does everything well.

It's a complete rebuild but still staying really young and allowing us to upgrade at numerous positions.

Throw a ton of cash at the combination of Jeff Green, Ersan Ilyasova and Chris Kaman.

So at 5 we have the combo of Valuncunias and Kaman solid veteran leadership and a young rook

at 4 we have Bargs and Ed and maybe Birdman

3 we have Ilyasova, James Johnson and possibly Brewer or Hamilton

Play Jeff Green at 2 with Ross coming off the bench

Keep Uzoh and have Calderon log big minutes.

Now if you don't like my combination of 3 you could really add any 3 from that list provided they fit all together.

Ideally if I were to only add 2 I would go with Ilyasova and Mayo. Mayo would give us an alpha male at 2 which is what we desperatley need and Ilyasova just does everything well.

It's a complete rebuild but still staying really young and allowing us to upgrade at numerous positions.

First off I would just like to start by saying, I'm not really a raptors fan, I'm just a basketball fan, I love a bunch of teams and hate others (The Lakers). Here is what it's going to take to save the Raptors:

1: Trade Demar Derozan and (Jaryd Bayless, Rasual Butler or Gary Forbes) to Now Orleans for Chris Kaman and (Ariza, Summers or Vazquez) Cap releif for the Hornets + they get Demar Derozan while he still has some value. Sign Kaman to a 3 year deal around 6-7 Mil a year.

2: Find a way to get Shannon Brown from Phoenix, I don't know how or who you have to trade but he can't be worth that much he was a FA and landed in Phoenix.

3: Throw all the money we have at Wilson Chandler and Eric Gordon in the off season. (Obviously if we got Ariza no need to sign Chandler)

4: Use Ed Davis as bait to try and get another 1st round pick, regardless of where it is in this deep draft.

Making our roster for the start of 2013:

PG: Jose Calderon, Draft pick received in Ed Davis trade, AC

SG: Eric Gordon, Raptors draft pick, Vazquez or Forbes

SF: Wilson Chandler or Ariza, Shannon Brown, James Johnson

Not only are these moves realistic, they keep the Raptors young, we get bigger, we platoon a respectable platoon at 3 and we become a much much deeper basketball team all the while maintaining our defense for coach Dwayne Casey.

The fan base wanted an improvement over last year, we got it. 2 More wins then we had last year, We beat the Pats, the Eagles, The Chiefs and a couple losses in real close games (Cinci and The Giants and this team is 8-8 maybe even 9-7) We beat quality teams in the Pats and Eagles and Raiders beat up on teams in rough shape the Broncos, Chiefs, Redskins at the end of the day we beat 2 playoff teams in Denver, New England and took 2 other playoff teams right to the wire Giants and Bengals.

We signed Fitzy, Pears, Kyle Williams to lucrative contracts and still have to sign Freddie J and Stevie J to lucrative contracts. We have to spend more money this year based on the new CBA and we are in a fine position to do so. We have alot of holes, but some of our holes have plugs that just really need to get themselves better in their first full offseason. Sheppard, Williams, Rodgers, Hairston, Carrington, Troup along with some others will really benefit from a full offseason with the training and coaching staff. (They will be obligated by the team to come to OTA's)

A new DC is a must, Thanks George for your time in Buffalo, but it needs to come to an end. Too many time was he outsmarted, out adjusted, out schemed by other coaching staffs, he needs to be replaced. Alot of George's faults come from a lack of elite talent but at the same time it also has to do with his inability to out scheme OL's and QB's. The Ryans do a fantastic job of this aswell as Dom Capers, Dick Lebeau and some other DC's (I know those are the elite DC's in the league but still). I would recommend Steve Spagnulo or Mike Singletary for the job.

How important is Chris Kelsay for this defense, I mean seriously, this guy has been the whipping stick for years in Buffalo from me and many others, but Chris did an excellent job this year and when he didn't play, the Bills really, really missed him. I watched all but 2 games, the Chargers game and The 2nd Miami game and I will say this, Chris Kelsay could play for me anyday of the week, his constant hustle, and just his leadership skills can not go unnoticed any longer!

Nick Barnett, you replaced my favorite Bill and did a damn good job if not better, Paully had a pretty good year in Jax but I think it looks good on him that we improved as a team and they are one of the worst teams in the NFL. Nick, I look forward to you being a Bill next year and hopefully we can surrond you with some more talent and we can improve as a defense.

Bills that I think need to be let go.

Bryan Scott, I wish you would decide what you want to be and be it. Being an undersized LB on a team that has the worst defense in the league coupled with the worst 3rd down % in the NFL (on defense) when you play the most just isn't cutting it. Sorry, I know there are some BS lovers out there; I though, am not one

Jarius Byrd belongs in the pro bowl! End of Story!

Blessing In Disguise

Everyone around here absolutely loves Kyle Williams; including myself, but his injury is and has been a blessing in disguise. Marcell Dareus was able to transition to where he belongs right above the Centre and boy did he not disappoint. See there are two sides to every story but in this instance if Kyle Williams doesn't get hurt Marcell never gets the opportunityto be a NT, hes stuck at end.

Kyles injury creates opportunities for everyone, not just Marcell, it allows Alex Carrington to play LE instead of RE trapped behind Dwan Edwards, it allows Dwan to be more of a penetrator (Kyles specialty) it allows Marcell to do what he does best collapse the pocket not rush from the outside.

Marcell being in the middle is kind of like a domino effect. Arthur Moats is a speed rusher of the edge so he forces the QB to step up into the pocket but Marcell is collapsing the pocket with great push on the Centre which flushes the QB to the side but Alex Carrington is a better edge rusher at End then he is at OLB and like I mentioned above it allows Dwan Edwards to focus more on penetrating aside from containing thus = 9 sacks.

I know alot for the 9 sacks can be accredited to a porous Redskins OL but I really think Marcell being at his natural position of NT allows the Bills to scheme differently. Kyle is unique in the fact he is a pure pentrator at DT, he's not a run stuffer ala Vince Wilfork and he's not a speed rusher ala Jay Ratcliff, he's a pentrator that forces teams to double team him which is really where his true value is, but hes not a pocket collapser either like Marcell is. With Kyle in the game it forces team to run away from him because he does a great job of getting through the line (not pushing it back) and forcing the other teams hand, where Marcell pushes the line back and makes the team run alot outside which allows our OLB's to make plays.

Kyle is an amazing talent do not get me wrong, but his style of penetrating isn't really helping this Bills team generate a pass rush, teams are simpling double teaming him and we are not using Marcell properly and we are using him on the outside instead of the inside, I do not think it is a fluke that the first game Marcell plays a strict NT he gets 2.5 sacks. I know, I saw Kellen Heard getting pressure as well and like I said the Redkins OL isn't exactly blowing any ones mind by how well they are playing but Marcell belongs inside, and he showed it Sunday.

That Was By Far And Away The Most Intense Football Game I Have Ever Seen!

First off, Way to go Bills, You worked real hard and waited a very very long time for that one. That game was earned. No one handed that game to Buffalo and when we needed the big play we got it. Well done Chan, well done Buddy, well done team.

What more can you say about Fred Jackson. The guy carries the ball 12 times and has 70 yds while averaging 6.6 ypc, and New England knew we were running when we did, and Fred still managed 6.6 ypc. Fred has an amazing ability to stay on his feet and that cannot go unnoticed. He should and almost definitely will get an extension, but when the timing is right. His Big play ability just amazes me, and the announcers touched on it. When Buffalo gets Fred involved good things happen. Whether its a screen, or Fred in the slot running for 40 yd gain (I'm so glad that wasn't a TD) he just makes things happen and its awesome.

JAIRUS BYRD, My Man, I noted on this site about a week ago that he in my mind is this teams Defensive MVP and boy did he show it. Whether it was coming up andhelping with the run, drilling Wes Welker(which I don't think was penalty, it's just because Wes it so short) or having a huge pass break up. He has just been doing everything for this football team and it's really noticeable, and watching him chirping Logan Mankins after the Bryan Scott INT and Logan wanting to throttle him, It's just Awesome and keep up the good work Jarius.

Speaking of the Bryan Scott Int, WHAT A GAME SAVER, and we turned it into 3, which proved to be so crucial. Very lucky and very timely be still awesome and was absolutely critical in us winning this football game.

Leodis had himself a nice comeback game (Aside from the Ocho drop) a pick, almost had the goaline tackle on Wes to prevent a TD (just a hair late), had a tackle on Wes that forced the FG and made some nice hustle plays (especially hurting Aaron Williams, just kidding)

Reggie Corner, comes into the game and just plays well. He din not hurt this team in any way shape or form and played solid he even had a pass breakup. Good on ya Reggie, goes from being cut to being a key ingredient to this team picking up the W.

GEORGE EDWARDS - We need to have a chat you and I (hahhahaa) Some of his play selection/strategy really had me angry on Sunday. Putting Chris Kelsay on Gronk in the slot What?, lining Aaron Williams on Wes Welker after Welker went for 75 yds on the opening drive, Playing Zone coverage when Brady is only throwing to 2 guys. Deion Branch 0 Catches, Ocho 1 catch, West Welker 16 catches , 2TD's, Gronk 8 catches 2 TD's, hmmmmmm. Our Run D was dominant to the point where New England only had 1 gain over 10 yds on a run and still you insisted opn playing Zone Scheme, BRUTAL. Then the 4th Quarter comes and we line George Wilson on Gronk regardless of where he lines up and we double him, Now that's what I'm talking about.

Nick Barnett had a real bonehead personal foul penalty, I don't know what that was all about but it almost cost us the game (cue Bryan Scott's pick)

Shawne Merriman quietly played awesome, he had the LT guessing alot of the time and sometimes he just flat out didn't rush andit really confused New England. His penetration on the goaline was integral to that near goaline stand.

Stevie Johnson, you amaze me. The kid catches everything, everything! I was cussing out Donald Jones for not catching the ball and then I watch Fitzy throw to Stevie and its like man this guy will catch absolutley anything you throw his way, and I cannot reitterate enough how important he is to this football team. New England was so worried about Stevie beating them that they rolled the safety to his side on almost every second half possession and Donald Jones stepped up and had himself a football game.

Fitzy, well your not the most accurate guy in the world, and a questionable decision led to that 2nd pick, but you are a fearless leader, a smart man, and great football player. A True Leader in every sense of the word. You need to learn how to take a knee but other then that you played awesome. Listening to Rich Gannon question his decision to throw that ball to the endzone, I was like there's no way he did that without something else going on then I saw the flag and was like AHA. PI, boys were going to the goaline.

The OL/Chan. There's two sides to this. The OL has been flat out awesome, no questions asked, but I really think Chan has alotto do with it. The passes he draws up/calls really help Fitzy get rid of the ball quick andto guys in space too. The difference between New England line and ours is Brady has all day in the pocket, Fitzydoesn't but they both are extremely productive and Chan has alot to do with that, so does the OL but a Great job to both of you.

Who knew our 3rd overall pick would make such a difference? From the Run D to him getting his helmet in the passing lane. That play changed the mometum of this game, to the point where I sat on my couch and declared Buffalo the winner with about 8 min left in the 4th, knowing full well new England was going to tie that game and we were going to win.

The Bills struggled to defend Wes Welker, but who doesn't ? The Bills had a few to many 3 and outs for my liking, but who doesn't ? We gave up to many points but against the Pats who doesn't ? We are 3-0 and on top of the division for the first time since 2008, we have a ong way to go no doubt about it, but the AFC is beating up on each other, The Raiders are 2-1 (Great call Kurupt) and so are the Chargers and there is alot of parody in this league. We have won 1 game though and cannot get ahead of ourselves. We have a great chance at going 4-0 before hosting a very very good Philidelphia Eagles @ home. Cinci has a great D by the looks of it andwe are going on the road so we cannot just chalk this up as a win but if we can go 4-0 that would go along way towards us moving forward.

Gotta Vent A Bit..... But What A Great Football Game

Before I start. I want to say this, I almost had a heart attack yesterday, the emotional up and downs, its enough to make a 25 year old man feel like he is 60.....

1: What is wrong with the Defense? I have the answer. Scheming. Plain and simple. Who is Oakland's main threat? Darren McFadden, how do you neutralize Darren? Put a spy on him. Nick Barnett, your task for today's game. Shadow Darren McFadden, on 3 separate occasions The Bills completely forgot Darren was on the field and 3 separate occaisions he burned us for 2 first downs and a TD. BRUTAL at the time when we need to get stops to secure the game. When a player of his calibre is on the field and he is the go to guy, you have to force other players to beat you!

2: Denarius Moore made Leodis McKelvin look ridiculous. Leo should have had 2 Ints and a pass break up, instead he had 3 rec's against him. The first fade, where Jason Campbell just lobbed the ball in the air, I am sitting on my couch going oh yeah that's a pick, and what do ya know Moore comes down with it and Leo is pissed. Leo if you just stopped took a breath settled underneath it like a CF and just jump it's yours, but your to busy trying to watch the Qb and the WR at the same time. the 2nd fade down the sideline was a great pass, and to be honest with Moore's speed I don't think Darelle Revis makes that play (Yeah a Jam at the line helps but when Moore beats ya withhis first move your as good as done). The 3rd play that Oakland took the lead with is just as much George Wilson's as it is Leo's. George take the man! forget about the ball; your a SS, make the big hit and make sure he can't catch it because you hit him so hard. Leo was right there and again if he just focuses on Moore's hands he breaks that play up.

3: Marcell Dareus is a BEAST, I just love seeing a 325lb man chasing RB's from behind, making plays at the LOS and just out hustling guys on the same play.

4: Is it me or does it seem like Shawne Merriman is just quietly going about his business, and aside from the off field stuff is just a solid if unspectacular OLB. He got held real bad on the last play of the game and if that had of been a TD I would have thrown my remote control threw the screen hahahahah. He got burned once on not setting the edge but he has been consistent at the POA and is just really doing exactly what Chris Kelsay is doing, his job and nothing more.

5: From my POV, the game ball has to go to Stevie Johnson. He drew 5 penalties, was hurt, and still dominated this entire game. he can share the game ball with Chan who called a MARVelous game. Whether it was calling for a shotgun run or a deep fade down the sidelines to Stevie he called a fabulous game. Kudos to Fitzy and Fred who played outstanding but Stevie was limping and still making plays!!!

6: Fitzy is a very smart man. Three separate occasions on third down he saw, and knew there was a flag, so what's he do? He throws to the guy thats is covered and blanketed hahahaha. But Fitzy's demeanor yesterday was what really stood out to me. He didn't get excited until the Bills took the lead with0:16 left, when they were rallying from behind he just went about it in such a professional manner, and to see him chest bumping the old boy in the grey coat was just AWESOME!

7: David Nelson, welcome back my man. Clutch receptions and great route running, (I thought he was going to drop that final score, Just Buffalo luck I guess) But David Nelson just played his role absolutely perfect and had himself a very very good game! Same goes for Scott Chandler. Fitzy called on him twice andhe caught both balls and in a very clutch manner, that ball in the end zone was not an easy catch it was zipped in there and tipped and he still caught it.

8: Bye Bye Ruvell Martin! What a joke, this guy gets his shot and whats he do drops all three passes at him, and the first drop, i could have caught that ball and probably ran for another 20 yds after it. He should be relased and I am not over exagerating one bit when I say that. You need to perform in The NFL and he did everything but perform.

9: Donald Jones! He is absolutely silent for the entire game and catches a HUGE 4th down reception in traffic to keep the game Alive, If he has 2 catches a game and they on 3rd or 4th down andhe gets a 1st, I can live with that.

Little More.....

Good to see CJ contributing and breaking tackles, it has been stated that if he can make that first guy miss he will be a dangerous back, Kudos to the OL (and CHAN AGAIN) for keeping Fitzy upright and only allowing 1 sack, George Edwards get your stuff together because you have the best offensive football team in the NFL coming int he week and you couldn't scheme for the Raiders (no disrespect to the Raiders who played very well but) and last but not least, Fred Jackson - YOU ARE AMAZING, I started laughing when he ducked under Richard Seymour, that is a perennial pro bowl DL and he made him look foolish. He just always knows where the defenders are and just flat out makes them miss, again, YOU ARE AMAZING!

This Game Has Potential To Have Huge Implications.

I got to thinking this morning, (Sometime this really gets me in trouble) and it occured to me that this very winnable game could end up having huge implications on our season If We Win Look at what happens around the AFC:

New England 1-0 vs San Diego 1-0 @ Home - This is a win win for the Bills, because we have the oppurtunity to gain a game on a potential division leader. Whether it's our own division or another division one of these teams has to go to 1-1.

New York Jets 1-0 vs Jacksonville 1-0 @ Home - Again this is a win win for the Bills, either a Divisional opponent goes to 1-1 or a team with a chance at the wild card goes 1-1 and we gain a game aswell.

Pittsburgh 0-1 vs Seattle @ Home - Pittsburgh in an almost guartanteed win can only be 1-1, again we are a game up on a potential wildcard contender.

Indy vs Cleveland @ Home - Indy is going to struggle this year and if Cleveland wins it puts another wildcard contender at 1-1, a game behind the Bills.

Miami vs Houston @ HomeHome - To me this is going to be the Biggest help game for the Bills. if Houston can put Miami down to 0-2 thats a big 2 game advantage for the Bills, if Miami wins it puts another potential division champ down to 1-1.

Other games include Bal @ Tennessee and Cinci @ Denver but to me these games mean a little bit less. my point is this.

Buffalo has a very favorable schedule going forward and if we can get a game up early by letting our out of division rivals beat up on each other, we stand a pretty good chance at that Wildcard spot. I know I might be jumping the gun a bit, but I mean any chance for us to get a game up is huge and I know many of us us on this site now how important it really is. If Buffalo can take care of business at home and by going 6-2 and if we can get 3 to 4 wins on the road we really have a chance at that Wildcard spot.

Pittsburgh 0-1 vs Seattle @ Home - Pittsburgh in an almost guartanteed win can only be 1-1, again we are a game up on a potential wildcard contender.

Indy vs Cleveland @ Home - Indy is going to struggle this year and if Cleveland wins it puts another wildcard contender at 1-1, a game behind the Bills.

Other games include Bal @ Tennessee and Cinci @ Denver but to me these games mean a little bit less. my point is this.

Before I start I would like to say going through a morning with out my morning coffee absolutely sucks!

Things I Really Liked: Aside from the obvious Scott Chandler comments

- David Nelson, after a very quiet pre season he came out and provided us with exactly what we expect from him, good underneath routes, good YAC and just a reliable target for Fitzy to throw too.

- Leodis McKelvin, He finally looked like a corner we can count on. He was buzzing around the football and aside from 1 really out of position play on a Charles long run he looked really good.

- Chan Gailey, First and foremost for going with the running game and sticking with the running game and once we got up by 4 TD's getting the backups in for some quality time. He rested the guys that need the rest and played the guys that need the PT, that's what I really liked, he kept Pears and Urbik in, he kept Donald Jones in the game and that list goes on but I really like how he managed the roster yesterday!

Chris Kelsay, on 3 separate occasions the old Chris Kelsay over pursues and the Chiefs get a big gain, and the new Chris Kelsay stopped read the play correctly and made the play. A TE Screen to Leonard Pope, A fake end around (where he stayed with the end around), and The Matt Cassel Sack (instead of plowing through the pocket he angled towards the pocket and forced Cassel to step up)

Fred Jackson, Scott Chandler

Things I Am Optimistic About:

Aaron Williams, it seemed to me George Edwards was using Williams as a blanket on Jamaal Charles, and buy did he play that role nicely. Charles TD should have been a pick and he jumped the route, read Cassel like a book but the ball squeaked through his hands. He didn't look like a rook, he looked like a kid who belonged out there.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (Decision Making), Only once did Fitzy throw a ball he shouldn't have, and good on Donald Jones for playing DB on that play but aside for that throw, Fitzy managed the game very very well and threw the ball to the WR's that were open or had the best chance to make an impact on that given play. My one question is this, did Scott Chandler not read the blitz and by accident he was wide open in the end zone?. The Chiefs brought the house, and when a team brings the house its the slot mans job to read blitz and read hot route. Normally the hot route is a 5 yd hook or something. Maybe the hot route was the seem post but I think he read that play wrong but was wide open because of it, just a thought.

Jarius Byrd, I was really down on Byrd last year because of his play and his lack of tackling ability, but yesterday he laid some really strong hits and was all over the field. Jarius I am sorry and you looked like a Pro Bowl FS yesterday.

Things I Am Slightly Concerned With:

Shawne Merriman, He lays a huge hit and he gets hurt, not good. He came back which made me feel good but he came back and played less than stellar and almost conservative. Get healthy Shawne cause just having you on the field helps us.

Our TE coverage, on more then a few occasions Leonard Pope was wide open with no Bills around himn for a least 5 yds. If that's Hernandez or Gronkowski we are in trouble. Barnett on a few occasions made some great reads and allowed himself to get into position and make the tackle (especially on McCluster) I will say this. On the play to MCcluster, Barnett could have over pursued and tried to force the in-completion but he allowed McCluster to make the catch but positioned himself to make sure MCluster went no where. Thats experience and good mental capability on the football field.

Things That Pissed Me Off:

Terrance McGee, FIRST PLAY OF THE GAME! and it wasn't like he got hit or even blocked he was running to the ball and he fell down and boom he's gone. I know it's not his fault he got injured but man is that disheartening to see him fall down to a phantom injury.

CJ Spiller, Spiller had what about 10 touches in total. and with those 10 touches 3 were productive 2 8-9 yd runs and a catch out of the slot. Every other touch was a 1-2-3 yd loss. He has to be better and he has to be utilized better. he showed great burst on the TD run (maybe it was because he smelt end zone) but on all his other runs he very very ineffective.

Other Thoughts:

What a catch Stevie Johnson, Marcell did exaclty what we needed him to do clog up some lanes, occupy a couple blockers and just stay on the field no matter what the situation, Donald Jones hmmmmmm, Great TD catch and great on ya preventing a pick but what are you doing on some of your routes? Good Pick Drayton good recognition of a poor decision by Matt Cassel, 2 lapses in the running game and 2 huge gains.

If you were to look at the intangibles you would think this is an all right football team. The fact of the matter is this, some of us as Bills fans just don't seem to see it that way. TMQB had a pretty intersting read yesterday:

Bills an Example of Losing Cheaply

" Buffalo, 11 consecutive years out of the playoffs, just traded one of its few established performers, Lee Evans, to the Ravens for a middling draft pick. Unloading Evans and replacing him with a minimum-salary young player cuts the Bills' costs by about $3 million this season, which is more than profits would rise if every seat were sold. Trading Evans makes a winning season less likely, but the odds of a profitable season go up -- and a built-in excuse is created. How long until a Buffalo team official says, "We knew we'd have an off year when we lost Lee Evans," as if he had been swept from the practice field by helicopter-borne commandos, rather than deliberately traded away ".

The article goes on from this and you can read it in it's entirety, dnvrbillsfan posted a good FanShot on it yesterday. A pretty interesting way to look at The Bills and Bengals and the other perennial losers, but to me that seems like an uneducated guess as to why The Bills haven't been successful in the last 11 years. Some point to our roster lacking an elite QB, some see it as Ralph is to cheap to go out and grab elite players and some see it as we have drafted poorly.

Well I don't see it that way, I see a team that was so successful for so long that they were no longer able to grab elite players via the draft, signed players past their prime and never really recovered from constantly drafting beyond the 22nd pick in the draft. To put it bluntly, The Bills never blew it up properly!

We've talked about this before, but the Bills never gave up on a season in the late 90's early 2000's, Instead of living life the way we are now which is losing badly every year and collecting picks. We refused to just stand pat like Buddy is now, we refused to not sign aging FA's and we never let ourselves have top 10 picks for 5 years straight. This is the Bills punishment for toiling in mediocrity for 6-7 years. For every Peyton Manning there is at least 5 Ryan Leafs, for every Jake Long there is 5 Mike Williams.

My point is this, if you don't collect elite players via the draft it's real hard to collect elite players any other way and when you draft 11th, 9th, 14th, and 20th you allow that many teams in front of you to have a shot at the player you want. How many pro bowlers went before the Bills drafted Aaron Maybin? 2 Eugene Monroe and BJ Raji, how many of those player have a chance at a Pro Bowl? I would argue 3, Tyson Jackson, Matthew Stafford and as much as it pains me Mark Sanchez. Thats 5 players selected before the Bills picked Maybin that stand to be Pro Bowlers. Of those 5 players, would the Bills have benefited from having them on our roster, I'l let you answer that one.

Not only did we not blow it up properly, we spent big money (putting to bed that Ralph is cheap) on very very Marginal FA's. Derrick Dockery, Langston Walker, Chris Villareal and that list goes on and on. Did we bring in good FA acquisitions? oh yeah, from London Fletcher to Fred Jackson but that list is much shorter. When you try to fill holes via FA , it better be a position where you already have some talent at. So when the FA ages or doesn't pan out you can replace him with that talent. We yearn for that big FA signing, we as Fans love it and you can't deny that. You get a player and all you give up is money thats not yours and you feel your favorite team is that much better. Hey, I can attest to being frustrated this off season cause the Bills didn't grab some big FA's " Man, Buddy just sign someone substantial please" I probably said this 10 times this off season, but I have come around.

How many people would be pissed if the Bills used the remainder of thier draft picks after Luck to add OL and LB's?

My guess would be a very small % of you.

I am just as guilty as anyone on this site for questioning Buddy's moves or his LACK OF MOVES. Reality is this. Do we want to be a perennial playoff team for the next 15 years then go back to where we are, or do we want to be a perennial mediocre team that may make the playoffs 2 out of every 10 years? My guess would be the Perennial contender but thats just me.

Well that's was a bit harsh eh. The Bills showed up on Saturday night but that's about all they did. I know it's gotta be hard to be Chan right now. He is a pure innovator on offence and I'm sure he doesn't want to give to much away about what he's trying to accomplish on that side of the ball. Keeping it "Vanilla" as Brian would say is really hurting our appearance as an offensive football team.

Fitzy has been less then spectacular to be quite honest, (I know he hasn't had much time to throw the ball) but when he's had time, he has over thrown a few guys. Specifically, 1 play stands out in my mind. It was in the 2nd quarter of Saturday's game, He stood in the pocket nice and tall, on his tip toes. Stevie ran a crossing pattern about 22 yds deep, Stevie was coming over the middle in perfect stride had some light and Fitzy throws behind him and high. If we are going to make a jump in the standings and Fitzyis going to be our QB, he has to be able to make that throw!, Yes he was pressured at the last second but nothing to hectic as he had the chance to step into the throw and deliver the ball and he just had a bad throw. There were a few more but to me this one really stood out because any good QB from Tom Brady all the way down to Sam Bradford can make that throw and Fitzy HAS to make that throw.

WOW, how much of a difference can Shawne Meeriman make! Merriman in Chicago had pressure from everywhere, Buffalo - Shawne had maybe 3 pressures from the starting 11, mind you; like Chan said it was pretty Vanilla, but still.

It was nice to see Stevie step up and go after Rahim Moore after that hit (another poor fitzy throw). Donald Jones laid it on the line to try and make the catch and he got lit up, but like I said, good on Stevie for stepping up for his teammate. That stuff goes a long way in terms of team building.

Spiller and Freddie had some nice runs, good to see Chan utilizing the counter, but again he doesn't want to show too much but they showed some nice patience and good burst getting outside and turning that corner.

What a TE screen to Chandler in the 1st quarter. That was a thing of beauty. gained about 8 ydson the play but just a great football play, textbook. Held the block 1 Mississippi 2 Mississippi, released, and boom theres the ball. Great!. I jumped off my couch, LOVED IT!

Our offence is really missing Roscoe it seems, I'm actually kind of glad though. I really want to see how Chan utilizes him now that Lee is gone. I think we will continue to see the bubble screens and stuff, I think that goes without saying, but how Chan uses him now in those 20 yd routes and 15 yd hooks, Roscoe is so shifty that he can really create space if he runs a good route. Now the other half of the equation is, can fitzy get the ball to him as he is a shorter receiver? He struggles getting it to guys that are 6'2 and above let alone Roscoe who is 5'9.

How about that back shoulder throw from Thigpen to Huggins, That was a great play, very much like the play Denver had with Orton and Lloyd. (By the way Orton looked pretty impressive)

A little non Bills statement here, I have a feeling the Chiefs are going to win the AFC West. I took Jamaal Charles with my first pick in Fantasy and I think it's going to work out quite well. Sorry just a quick thought there.

Marcell Dareus is going to be Special. The kid is a beast, Teams are already doubling him. To me that sends a message to all the veterans in our lineup, step your game up cause the rook is getting doubled and still producing.

Good riddance Aaron Maybin, I hope to god you flop wherever you go because if you become a top flight pass rusher somewhere else, I will loose alot of confidence in our talent evaluation.

Man could we use some OL help. A couple (more like a ton of people) on this site begged for us to grab some help in the off season and the FO felt we were well suited to stand pat (aside from the Clabo interest) and boy were they wrong. Bell has had lead feet, Wood hasn't played as well as he should, our RG situation is a nightmare because Urbik has no push for a guy that is 320 lbs, Pears for better or for worse has looked ok, and well our LG situation is almost as bad as our RG. I hope OBD gets it figured out pretty quick because we look like a bunch of pop warner kids going against the all star team.

Our UDFA's looked like UDFA's didn't they. If Brady Quinn is making you look bad, then you are just flat out bad. Enough said.

For a guy like Lee Evans to get traded, you would think there would be someone waiting in the wings to replace him. It was said that Donald Jones was the front runner to replace him, well I am still waiting, because, from what I have seen; and correct me if I am wrong, he has not caught one pass in 2 games.

To be quite honest, I am not to concerned about what is going on in this pre season, in a shortened off season you have to get your stuff together real quick and the Bills are a team that cannot afford to not give these young guys chances. Who cares if you go 0-4 in the pre-season, if you find a couple of gems in your UDFA core, it's well worth it.

Danny Batten looked really impressive in the first pre-season game, enough that he got the start in the second pre-season game but to no avail, he really struggled against the Denver zone blocking scheme and he even had an offsides penalty. Just keep improving kid it will come.

We are a dedicated fan base here a Buffalo Rumblings, and one would argue that, this is the site you go to for either Buffalo Bills news, or if you have an opinion, you come here to share it because the vast knowledge of this football team is very strong here.

Is the timing of the the Lee Evans trade a bit confusing? Yes

Is the trade of Lee Evans surprising? maybe

Is it fair value for a guy (who statistically) is on the down side of his career? I would argue YES

Buddy Nix, from day one has reiterated a few things, those things being. he will stack players on players, every player will get a fair shot from the previous regime (and his crew will evaluate them) and he is going to build via the draft. Has Buddy strayed away from what he has had us believing? NO.

Lee got a fair shot, Marshawn not so much but, Maybin has had a fair shot. is there still holdovers from the previous regime? Yeah, McGee, Johnson, McKelvin, Parrish and the list goes on and on.

Buddy has proven two things to us since he has taken over as GM and that is A:) He doesn't care what the fans or so called experts think, he's going to do it his way and B:) He has a great eye for evaluating talent.

From Cliff Spiller all the way down to Naaman Roosevelt he has found value in every draft pick or UDFA he has had to date aside from Kyle Calloway and Levi Brown. We all (aside from maybe Brian) went into this off season with high hopes that Buddy would grab us a couple marquee or at least adequate FA to help build this team. Buddy responded by saying I'm going to sign a backup QB, that is my priority, and what did Buddy do? he signed Tyler Thigpen and Brad Smith (What he's a QB).

Obviously, Chan and Buddy see something in this young corp (core) of receivers. Whether it be Buster Davis or David Nelson, there is something there that they like.

To me this trade screams 2 things:

1.) if we are going to win with Ryan, Ryan has to show he can win with any receiver. Not a QB who is going to rely heavily on his receivers, but his receivers will rely heavily on him. Ryan has to make this offence work, it has to be him and him only if we are going to give him a shot at being our long term QB. If Ryan is not the answer we are going to have yet another high draft pick and we are going to use it on a QB.

2.) Lee was not a fit in Gailey's system. Lee had his lowest production as a pro last year in Gailey's 1st year as Head Coach. This has to speak louder volumes then it has been.

It's been a tough off season for dedicated Bills fans. We have watched 2 of our most beloved and actually talented players move on, guys that when you went to game, their jerseys made up about 30% of the jerseys being worn.

Now to the other side of the coin.

This is now officially you team Buddy Nix, you have poked and plottedwith it, you have had 2 drafts with it and you have made trades with it. Heck, you have even extended guys. So now it's time to put up or get fired because with the seriousness of moves and lack of moves you have made it's officially your team.

Our Wr corps and More

After all these Lee Evans Rumours floating about, I thought I would take a dive into the history of our young receiver corp just to see what some of our guys are all about:

Lee Evans:

Drafted in the 1st round, 13th overall out of Wisconsin, Lee was somewhat of a touchdown machine. He never surpassed 80 receptions in a season while at Wisconsin, but compiled 2 reatilvey great seasons. In 2001 he recorded 75 recs, for 1545 yds and 9 TD's. He sat out of 2002 with an injury and returned in 2003 to put up 64 Recs for 1213 yds and 13! TD's.

In the NFL, he has never really lived up to be a possession type receiver; only surpassing 80 receptions once in his entire career. In 2006-07 where he recorded a career best 82 recs for 1292 yds and 8 TD's. The most staggering stat is that, on only one other occasion has he surpassed 60 receptions, in 2008-09 he recorded 63 Recs for 1017 yds and 3TD's. His worst year as a pro came last year where he only recorded 37 recs for 578 yds and 4 TD's.

Lee has shown a knack for staying healthy though, only not playing a full season once in his entire career and that being last year. He has a staggering yds per cth of 15.7 over the course of his career. Though his receptions numbers seem to drastically change every year he has shown he can still find the endzone only recording less then 4 TD's once in his career and that year was when he had his second most receptions.

This info shows us what we all presumably should already know, Lee is a home run threat with great hands.

Stevie Johnson:

Drafted in the 7th round with the 17th pick out of Kentucky, Stevie really only showed 1 good year (as he only played 2 years). In 2006 he recorded 12 recs for 126 yds and 1 TD. In 2007 as a senior Stevie recorded a much improved 60 recs for 1041 yds and 13! TD'S. A pretty big jump to make over the course of one year.

Stevie really has only received major playing time once in his career; that being last year, He recorded 82 recs for 1073 yds and 10 TD's. In his draft year of 2008 he dressed for 11 games, but only played in 10 recording 10 recs for 102 yds but 2 TD's. In 2009 he saw very limited time only playing in 5 games and recording 2 catches.

If 1 thing really stands out, its that when he has received playing time he has produced, To me the 2 TD's in only 10 recs shows he has great finishing ability in and around the endzone. Here's hoping Stevie continues his trend of playing time = production.

Roscoe Parrish:

Roscoe was drafted in the 2nd round with the 23rd pick out of Miami (FL) (a school known for producing superstars). Roscoe played 3 years at The U recording his best year as a junior before he declared for the draft. Amounting totals of 43 recs for 693 yds and 8 TD's. In the 2 years prior to this he had only recorded a total of 43 recs for 662 yds and 4 TD's, He basically produced in his junior year what he was able to accomplish in the 2 years prior (no wonder he declared for the draft).

Now Roscoe was more of a gimmick player at Miami, used for rushing, returning and receiving. Surprisingly he had only returned 1 kick for a TD in college and rushing for another. I have to say after looking at these stats I am a little surprised he was selected in the 2nd round; but hey that was Buffalo wonderful front office back then.

After suiting up for Buffalo for the first time in 2005-06 2 things were clear, 1.) Roscoe was great in space recording on only 15 recs a 5.2 YAC, and 2.) This kid could return kicks averaging a 26.1 yds on KO and 13.3 on Punts. He saw very limited time as a receiver in his first year only recording 15 recs for a 158 yds and 1 TD. Roscoe had a very much improved 2nd year in the pros as he played in all 16 games recorded 23 rec for 320 yds and 2 TD's and a improved YAC of 5.4. He also recorded his first return TD but his average PR number dropped to 11.4.

One would argue Roscoe's best year as a pro was 2007-08. He played in all 16 games recorded a career high 35 recs for 352 yds and 1 TD, he also boosted his PR average to 16.3 yds and returned another punt for a TD. Roscoe had a very disappointing stretch from 2008-2010 only recording a total of 28 recs for 266 yds and 1 rec TD and1 return TD. this is where he fell out of favour with the DJ regime.

Roscoe re surged as we all know last year recording in only 8 games 1 off his career high with 33 rec for a career high 400 yds and 2 TD's. Not surprising Roscoe has recorded a great YAC over the course of his career of 4.3 a number that is drastically altered due to 2008-2009 campaign. A reliable guy if he gets the ball, he will produce.

Donald Jones:

A UDFA out of Youngstown State he enjoyed next to Lee Evans the 2nd most consistent college career so far. He only played 2 years at Youngstown. In his first year he only recorded 31 recs but for 510 yds and 7 TD's (I would say he has a knack for the endzone) and his 2nd year where he recorded 77 recs for 790 yd and 6 TD's. He also returned kicks, but let's just say it wasn't his second calling.

Last year, not only did Donald make the opening day roster, he was actually quite impressive in the limited time he saw as a WR. Donald amounted 18 recs for 213 yds and a TD. Not to mention registering 9 tackles on Special Teams. Donald enjoyed his biggest game of the season against Cinci recording 5 recs for 70 yds and a TD. I wish there was a stat for blocks because he had some big blocks during the return game as well. He seems to fit the bill of these Bills receivers that if he gets PT, he produces!

Naaman Roosevelt:

Naaman was just like Donald as he was a UDFA, but surprisingly he didn't make the opening day roster. He had the most productive College career of any of the Bills on the current roster to date. He was actually recruited as a QB but was moved to WR half way through his first year. Once moved to WR he surpassed 31 recs for 429 yds and 2 TD's; not bad for half a season at a new position. His 2nd year he really got it going, totalling 63 receptions for 766 yds and 6 TD's. As a junior; and some would argue he should have entered the draft after this year, Naaman put up a staggering 104 recs for 1402 yds and 13 TD's , breaking a school record for most receptions in a season. He had a down year compared to his junior year in his senior year but still amounted 70 recs for 954 yds and 9 TD's.

There is no doubt in my mind that Naaman is our best suited WR to uproot Lee Evans on the outside as he has great hands and is just " steady as she goes". Naaman's first year of professional football was up and down he only saw action in 6 games, totalling 9 recs for 139 yds, but ha s a pretty decent YAC of 4.4.

I would think Naaman will make the opening day roster this year and will see lots of action in 4 WR sets, he has great hands and has shown GREAT production via a spectacular college career.

David Nelson:

Like the two mentioned before him, David Nelson was a UDFA that kinda made a few people go huh? when the Bills signed him. David produced very little in college (More due to the scheme he played in) totalling for a 4 year career at Florida 46 recs for 630 yds and 7 TD's. So what did Buddy see in the young WR? He saw a pro body in the mould of an Ed McCaffery at 6'5 220 lbs. David Nelson has great size and also is a great run blocker on the outside; If you don't block in Urban Meyer's system you do not play. David was also an honour student 3 times as well as The SEC's all community team in 2009. Daivd also had stiff competition at Florida fighting for playing time with Percy Harvin among others.

As a pro David enjoyed some successes he was never accustomed to in college, recording 31 recs for 353 yds and 3 TD's. Basically in 1 year of the pros he amounted almost 1/2 of the production he saw at Florida. and put up the most production in 1 season in the pros the he ever did in college.

Marcus Easley:

Some know this some don't, but Marcus Easley literally produced for 1 year at Connecticut before getting drafted in the 4th round with the 9th pick. Easley played 3 years at Connecticut. In his first 2 he totalled 5 recs for 104 yds and 0 TD's. Then came 2009, in a turn around year for Easley, he only recorded 48 recs, but on a team that featured Donald Brown as it's feature player at RB, Easley was still able to record 893 yds and 8 TD's before declaring for the draft.

We all know the story about Easley's pro career as he is yet to dress for an NFL regular season game let alone a pre season game. He hurt his knee real bad last year and was put on the IR before pre season even started.

I have chose to leave the UDFA's we picked this year as well as Paul Hubbard, Felton Huggins and Buster Davis off this list due to the fact the post was long enough already. I hope this sheds some light on our young unknown receiver core.

After all these Lee Evans Rumours floating about, I thought I would take a dive into the history of our young receiver corp just to see what some of our guys are all about:

A Good Ol' Fashioned Mind Dump

I was away for the Long Weekend (here in Canada) and missed the Dareus Contract and the Barnett signing, and all the other rookies getting there rookie contracts so I had to get caught up before I had a dump.

Before The Draft pre-lockout:

Right before the lockout we re-upped Shawne Merriman and George Wilson, and threw tenders at Poz, Chandler and Whitner. Pretty productive considering our most important free agent in my mind was Poz. If we came back in a new CBA that accepted the tenders we were in pretty good shape.

The Draft:

We had arguably one of the best drafts in football just from a visual standpoint and from a " professional " point of view. We addressed mostly our defence we the odd "glue" guys for the offence. We filled some positional needs with 2 DL,2 LB, 3 DB. 2 very highly graded players at DB and DL, 1 moderately graded player at LB and some late round additions. Overall a pretty good injection of youth into our defence. Key word being youth, and with youth comes growing pains.

Post Draft - Pre-lockoout ending:

Buddy reiterated how important it was to resign Poz and D Flo as they would be major building blocks to us getting out of the basement and help with his " re-build " and also made mention how important it was for us to grab a backup QB in FA. Other links included how Erik Pears was being talked up as our starting RT and how Buddy felt Shawne Merriman was " The Answer " at OLB.

Post-Lockout:

We were able to grab the all important backup QB in Tyler Thigpen, we were also able to grab our coveted DB Drayton Florence, were unable to however grab our most important Free Agent in " Buddy's Words " Paully P. We did however sign a pretty good replacement in Nick Barnett and grabbed an over priced gadget player in Brad Smith. A good signing, we just paid to much but the Intel we can get from him regarding the Jets and how important he was to the Jets justifies the money spent.

So after last year and heading into training camp this year our biggest weaknesses still lye in our defence, with the additions of our rookie class we have filled essentially 1 position DE, you could make the argument that Williams fills another need at DB but with Flo resigning and with two viable starters already in place Williams doesn't really fill much of anything except depth. We are still without a SS, we still have no depth at ILB and are pretty thin on our DL. We have some quality starters In Williams, Dareus and Edwards but with only Troup, Carrington and Johnson playing the role of backup were pretty thin.

Aside from defence our offence was still pretty shotty last year (aside from a few games, we were borderline average) we added a backup QB that in my mind will not push Fitzy at all, we picked up a WR/QB/PR/KR/Wildcat RB that will help us disguise some things but really doesn't fill a need. With needs at RT and TE and general o line depth we didn't fill any of those holes.

We went into the off season with needs essentially everywhere, we filled 2 (backup QB and starting DE). We filled 1 dire Need and think we filled another at DE (nothing is set in stone). I may be in the minority, I may be in the majority but with a month left till the regular season starts we still have needs Everywhere except maybe WR and RB.

To me Buddy has failed this off season, i loved the draft and I love the Barnett signing but walking away from the biggest FA pool in the history of the NFL with 19 UDFA's, Tyler Thigpen and Brad Smith coupled with 1 of the weakest overall talented rosters in the NFL is unacceptable. Fringe teams like Kansas City added needs with Steve Breaston and Kelly Gregg, Miami who has arguably 1 of the best LB cores in the NFL added a great talent in Burnett, Houston added a huge need with Joseph, while Jacksonville added our own Paully P and a SS to fill there huge needs. When your a team, like Indianapolis you can afford to stand pat or even Pittsburgh look after your own and keep drafting because you have the elite talent on your roster, but when your a team like Buffalo and need an injection of talent not only to stay competitive but to show the guys like Kyle Williams and Stevie Johnson that your serious about building a winner you do not add Tyler Thigpen and Brad Smith and that's it.

I was uber excited to hear about Tyson Clabo, but talk is cheap,

The Lions, the Detroit Lions for years have been the laughing stock of the league, they fired there GM, brought in a new one, they fired there coach, brought in a new one, drafted well, and signed some FA (Vandenbosch and some others) drafted well again and brought in some FA (Tulloch and some others) and now seemed ready to compete in a tough NFC North division, while teams around them added talent so did they. So Why can't the Bills do this???

All it take3s is 2 3 more guys and this team would compete week in week out. An example would have been Quinton Mikell, Brad Smith, Tyler Thigpen, Nick Barnett, Barret Ruud, Matt Speath and Sean Ohare look at the core of FA no SUPERSTARS just guys that fill our teams needs we fill o line depth, we fill our SS position and we fill or LB needs and TE Needs and suddenly our roster looks pretty damn good.

With guys still out there like Matt Roth, Donte Whitner, Zach Miller, Kevin Boss, Antwan Barnes, Kevin Bentley, Atari Bigby, Keith Bullock, Desmond Clark, Stephen Cooper, Early Doucet, Keyaron Fox, Tavares Gooden, Ryan Harris, Olin Kreutz, Travis Laboy, Ben Leber, Donald Lee, Sean Locklear, Jameel McClain, Rocky Macintosh, Ryan O'Callaghhan, Michael Otto, Julian Peterson, Barry Richardson and more

The Bills could afford to sign at least three of those guys to fill needs and add depth so why not? why not add some of these guys, if they don't turn out cut them, but show that your trying to inject some talent show your trying to make this team better.

Please Buddy I'm hoping that your not done and if you are I will be disappointed, but just go out and add some proven talent. Who knows maybe we find 3 more David Nelsons in our UDFA class and our needs will be filled but I just can't see that happening, so just add please JUST ADD.

Only one other time in my entire lifetime has a sports event truly gotten to me. The first was when Doug Gilmour got high sticked by Wayne Gretzky in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, and then scored when he should have been in the penalty box. Add Thursday night to the list.

On a day where we lost out on numerous undrafted free agents , and other mediocre teams grabbed legitimate free agents, we somehow have lost my favorite player and are about to lose another important piece (Florence).

Somehow some way this team loses Paully to Jacksonville!! Jacksonville!!!! Common man this really pisses me off.

Buddy, I don't care how hard you tried in the end you didn't get it done and to be honest I have just dropped down a notch in my Buddy respect meter. He emphasized how important this was to resign Paully P, he openly said it numerous times and he's still gone. I am mad and yes I am biased because Paully is my favorite Bill but this not only a sentimental loss but a big time football loss.

Buddy you better bring in some talent over the next few days, standing pat is no longer acceptable, we are NOW WAY BEHIND THE EIGHTBALL, we just lost our team captain on defence our best MLB and our best tackler. Our LB core now consists of a platoon of plugs and two rooks. I love the Sheppard and White picks put they are not going to egt the job DONE!!!!!!

We also stand the chance of losing Drayton; to a division contender nonetheless!

How is it, The Seahawks can sign Travaris Jackson and AND Matt Leinart (not that I think Leinart is anything special but they brought in 2 QB's that are potentially better then the one we got) and we walk away with Tyler Thigpen. How is it The Rams grab Quintin Mikell and we grab no one at SS.

This could be an overreaction, and a totally bias reaction after the first day of FA, but we are at the bottom of the food chain and have some of the most money in football that we HAVE to spend. it's not like we can save for a rainy day we HAVE HAVE to spend money. So how is it on the first day of a huge FA franzy we come away with Tyler Thigpen, Really?????

This sends a very bad message to the guys on the roster, in my opinion, we overpay Kelsay last year and extend him but we somehow let poz walk???????

The last few days it seems everywhere I look, No one seems to want Paully P or sees Paully P not in Buffalo next year. I'm not OK with this.

The kid is 26 with 3 staright 100 tackle season (while not playing a full 16 games). Poz has had a tough go in Buffalo and still seems to love the city and love the organization.

This is a kid who was taken in the 2nd round and everyone LOVED the pick from NFL.com to the non interested fan. He started out by playing a niche role on speacial teams and some run downs and the fans screamed for him to play more. So he got some PT and he made the most of it until he got hurt, He recovered and came back guns a blazing and sure enough he got hurt again, and the kid showed his resiliancy and bounced back and made a return before seasons end. Then there was last year when he suffered a fluke forearm injury. And the cries began: "this kid is injury prone", "He's soft", "He's just and average at best Linebacker". People seem to forget the all three injuries were to three different areas of the body. Or as I like to say fluke injuries that happen in a rough sport. (If all three were to his knee then I would be concerned)

He was a leader a Penn State, and he's been a leader for us here in Buffalo, and just the notion of thinking he is less valuable to this team than a journeyman corner (no offence Brian) kind of makes me upset. He is the undisputed Captain of the defence. Albeit, a terrible defence, but still the undisputed captain. He has served his time in Buffalo in a manner you would wish all professional athletes do, spending time in the community, very candid professional interviews, quiet away from the game and shows up every sunday whether he's hurt or not to play his butt off at a very high level.

Does Poz have his defencies, YES, Every NFL player does (Brady doesn't scramble well, Chris Johnson doesn't steamroll Lb's, Ray Lewis Kills people jk) he struggles to maintain good pass coverage for a long period of time, and he doesn't stack and shed like most would like. But remember a couple weeks or months back when we talked about how Demetrius Bell had been rehabbing so he couldn't work on his strength. Poz was learning a new system and how it's played as well as rehabbing nagging injuries, so i'm assuming he didn't get a whole lot of time to work on his strength. He has now played a full year (12 games) in a 3-4 scheme and knows exactly what it's going to take to be effective and if there is a player on this Bills team who is going to do everything in his power to get better it's going to be Poz.

Another thing we tend to forget, is the fact Buffalo just hired Dave Wannstedt to coach the LB's, were talking a NFL caliber head coach coaching Linebackers, if this isn't beneficial to a guy like Poz I don't know what is.

Buffalo hasn't exactly been the breeding ground for astout defensive players, Instead we've actually been the polar opposite (Maybin,McCargo, Ellis) and the list goes on and on of defensive players taken or signed and turned into bums who can't make it on the field of one of the worst defenses in the NFL. But Poz has stuck it out and still shown up every Sunday ready to go to work.

Things they are a changin (Hopefully), with guys like Williams, Merriman, Dareus and hopefully a few others we are putting together a pretty talented defence and a guy like Poz would give them a blue collar hard working leader to look up to. So when you are taking time out of your day to hopefully read this remember Poz may not be the best LB in the NFL but hes a pretty damn good one and one that is very under appreciated. When team like the NY Giants and The Washington Redskins offer him huge money and he still tures them down to take a hometown discount
with our beloved Bills please show the guy the respect he deserves and that he has earned.

There is arguably 2 Winning formulas that have won NBA championships over the past 10. ( a small sample in a big picture)

1.) I will outline below and

2.) Lets just say his name was Shaquille O'Neal, and to be honest I don't think we will see anyone like him for a long time.

The outline of an NBA Championship:

- There are 3 positions where you need to score from and it doesn't include all 3, but you have to have scoring from at least 2 of these positions if your goiung to win. Those positions are 2,3,4.

In the last 10 years the starting 2 guards have been - Kobe, Ray Allen, Dwayne Wade, Richard Hamilton, Micheal Finlay and Deshawn Stevenson.

Starting SF were - Shawn Marion, James Posey, Ron Artest, Paul Pierce, Tayshaun Prince, Rick Fox, Bruce Bowen.

Starting PF were - Dirk, Pau, KG, Tim Duncan, Rasheed Wallace, Samaki Walker, Udonis Haslem

Now like I mentioned above it doesn't have to be all 3, and like you can see the majority of the scorers come from 2 &4 and the defense comes from the 3. (Not all the scenarios but most)

Now continuing the same thought every single one of these team had a guy that changed the way each team played when he came off the bench.

Those bench players were: Antoine Walker, Robert Horry, Jason Terry, Manu Ginobli, Lamar Odom, Rodney Stuckey.

Continuing, Every team had a defence first C (Except L.A. of Old) - Ben Wallace, Tyson Chandler, Andrew Bynum, Fabricio Oberto, and Shaq

and every team had the role playing or should I say Veteran PG - Chauncey (I know this is where I willl get my arguements), D Fish, Jason Williams/GP, J Kidd, Tony Parker.

Now after that quick analysis, lets just compare that model to the 6 time NBA Champion Bulls and you will see a very very similar outline

C - Longley, Wennington, Cartwright, Brian Williams aka Bison Dele PF - Horace and Dennis, SF - Scottie, SG - Jordan, PG - Armstrong, Harper, Kerr, 6th man - Kukoc, Craig Hodges.

Now the other scenario is you have an absolute stud at Centre - Kareem, Shaq, Hakeem, David Robinson

but that seems to only come along once and a while and isn't as effective as the other outline

.Now, when this model is compared to the roster we have in Toronto, believe it or not we are not that far off. (I know I know its a stretch but just look at the roster.)

We have scoring at 2 - Demar, Scoring at 4 - Bargs we have a verteran role playing PG- Jose and you could say we have a game changing 6th man - Leandro.

What are we missing? well were missing a legitmate defensive centre, we are missing the 3 that can contribute whether it be offence or defence and we are missing the Kobe or the Jordan or the P squared, but if Demar can turn into the player he should ( A dominant scorer with great athetlicism) we might be allright.

But the one thing The Raps do not and have not had in common with these teams is ROSTER DEPTH!!!

If you go as far back as the Lakers of the early 2000's they had depth, Miami in 06' had depth, Dallas that just won the ship hed Great depth. The Raptors so long as they continue to have terrible depth will never get out of the basement, guys get hurt in this league its what happens. So if you don't have the depth to cover your screwed. Let Sonny Weems walk, let Julian Wright walk, let all these guys that will get no where, and are going no where in the NBA go, and bring in either quality vets or quality young talent and get this roster some depth.

I don';t mind the Valanciunas pick, I really don't. Regardless of if he plays next year or he has to wait a year it's really not the issue. Colangelo traded away our second 1st rounder last year for James Johnson and to be honest I can see why he did it and again to be honest i don't have an issue with that either.

What I do have an issue with is he has a chance to add a solid role player again this year in the 2nd round and he does nothing!

2 years ago, I watched the draft and watched as Sam Young fell down the draft board and just kept falling. Now this is a kid who played 4 years a Pitt, took his team to be the Number 1 seed twice being the best player on the team, had a great body of work to on is 6'7, 6'8 good defender good spot up jump shooter just a good solid basketball player, nothig spectacular but a solid player. (3 times the player Sonny Weems is) Did colangelo make an effort to grab him, nope and whatta ya know a team like Memphis grabs him and he ends up being a starter and good solid role player for them.

1 year ago I watched the draft and watched a couple of guys 1 being Luke Harangody and the other being Landry Fields fall down the draft board to the second round a sat there wondering why doesn't Colangelo make a move, oh wait whats this Toronto is making a trade sweet I bet its for Harangody, NOPE it for Solomon Alabi a guy that to save his life couldn't even dress for the Raps last year. I understand there second round picks, there not goling to be stars aside from Landry Fields but who thought this kid would end up being a starter in this league, Not I, I saw him contributing but not starting.

This year, I am a little riled up because again Colangelo neglects to add the best player available he goes on upside but like I said above i'm ok with it. i don't love the pick but I don't hate it either. But I sat waiting and waiting and watching as Kyle Singlar falls down the board. Songlar is exactly what this Raptor teem needs. A stretch 3 that can shoot, can play D and can rebound the ball. He's nothing special, he's npot spectacular but he would be a huge upgrade at the 3 for this team coming off the bench or even starting a combination of him and Johnson would be great. And again Colangelo does NOTHING. SInglar would be the glue this team needs. a 4 time All-American he shoots well, he comes from a great program. (No Raptors come from good programs, aside from ED) and he's 6'8.

So Colangelo, instead of talking about Valancuinas, watch a team like the Dallas Mavericks, who win a championship then in the draft somehow come away with Rudy Fernandez.

A ton of guys who would have helped this team fell a long way down the board.

Kyle Singlar, Marshon Brooks, John Lauer, Jeremy Tyler, Justin Harper, Jordan Hamilton.

How is it that The Rockets can come away from the draft with johnny Flynn and a potential lottery pick Motiejunas and the Raps who had the # 5 pick and a ton wiggle room on the roster come away Valanciunas.

P.S. The Charlotte Bobcats had a great Draft Byombo, Walker, Cory Maggette & Cash.

What I do have an issue with is he has a chance to add a solid role player again this year in the 2nd round and he does nothing!

So Colangelo, instead of talking about Valancuinas, watch a team like the Dallas Mavericks, who win a championship then in the draft somehow come away with Rudy Fernandez.

A ton of guys who would have helped this team fell a long way down the board.

Kyle Singlar, Marshon Brooks, John Lauer, Jeremy Tyler, Justin Harper, Jordan Hamilton.

New to the Site, but not new to SB

As I am an avid basketball player and lover, I just thought I would throw my 2 cents in when it comes to this years draft.

- You almost have to believe Clevland goes with Irving; if Irving does go to Cleveland, Baron becomes expendable (he's probaby expendable already but), who makes a move for Baron?

- Lets just say Clevalnd picks up Williams @ #1, Minnesota would either go Kanter or trade the pick assuming Kahn isn't an absolute moron, which leaves Knight, Irving and Walker.

- So now Utah is on the clock and word on the street is that they want a PG, making Devin Harris available. Now if I am BC and Devin Harris just becomes available what do I do. Well let me tell you what I do I go after Devin Harris, not surrendering my #5 pick but I try to get Deving Harris, now if Utah decides to go against the popular word and takes a non PG, Then Clevland who took Williams earlier, absolutley takes a PG here probably Irving but he could go # 2 to the team that trades with Minnesota (Orlando?????) .

- So now the Raps pick and for the sake of assuming we'll say the following has occured

1.) Cleveland - Derrick Williams

2.) Orlando from Minnesota - Kyrie Irving

3.) Utah - Brandon Knight

4.) Cleveland - Enes Kanter

5.) ???????

If I am BC I have to take Kemba Walker, WHY? Because the guy wants the rock in the final minutes of the game, the guy has one of the greatest step backs I have seen since Iverson and last but not least he has shown he knows how to WIN big games and play in big games.

Derek Rose makes it to the national championship and loses. John Wall can't even make it to the National Championship, and now Walker not only makes it there but he wins it and he isn't even being talked about for going # 1. Thats what makes guys better in this league everyone doubts them and they make them eat their words.

I don't know if anyone else noticed this but was it me or at times did Mario Chalmers look like the best player on the court during the Finals. Thats what guys who have won big games do they play big in big games.

I have read alot on this site and one of the things I have noticed is that people really want Bargniani gone, WHY?. Did Dirk not teach us all something, 7 footers who can shoot and drive are VERY VERY valuable in this league and Bargs is only 24, Dirk has been one of the best players in this league for a while and it's because Dallas has shown faith and Dallas has stuck with him and what does he do to reward? He wins a championship.

Last, but not least, our potential new coach Dwayne Casey. I am all for it, but I will say this. He had alot of tools in Dallas to create that defense, A rejuvenated Shawn Marion, TYSON CHANDLER (probably the most underrated centre in this league), Barea who can run all day with anyone in this league, Deshawn Stevenson a great defender his whole career, heck even Brian Cardinal who just flar out hustles. The Raps have no one like this, except Reggie Evans and to be honest of all our players I want gone, it's him. We need a legitimate center, a wing that can shoot and a go to guy lets get one in the draft and that one guy is Walker, try to get Dalembert or someone else in FA and trade for a Mike Miller type and the Raps are on their way.
