Lions and Tigers and Blockbuster Trades, Oh My... Mock Draft 2.0
In light of all the mock drafts lately, I decided to put together a crazy Mock Draft focusing on players we have brought in with some crazy trades to it. Enjoy!
*** Trade *** Brandon Marshall, Tony Scheffler, Elvis Dumervil, Eddie Royal to Washington for Brian Orakpo, Malcolm Kelly, 1st Round #4 - Shanahan brings in his old crew from Denver. Brandon Marshall, Tony Scheffler and Eddie Royal come together with McNabb to form a formidable O. They also add Flozell Adams in a separate move to help their O-Line until next years draft. Denver gets a ROLB who can stop the run with incredible potential, a potential #2 receiver and the #4 pick in the draft.
*** Trade *** Ronald Fields to Miami for 3rd Round #9
*** Trade *** 1st Round #4 (1800 pts) and 3rd Round #16 (190 Pts) to San Francisco for 1st Round #13 (1150 pts) and 1st Round #17 (950 pts) - San Francisco moves up to select Gerald McCoy as Singletary falls in love. Denver Picks up 2 more first round picks to pair with #11.
*** Trade *** 1st Round #11 (1250 pts) to Philidelphia for 1st Round #24 (740 pts) and 2nd Round # 4 (540 pts)
*** Trade *** 1st Round #13 (1150 pts) to Tampa Bay for 2nd Round #3 (550 pts) and 2nd Round #10 (480 pts)
*** Trade *** 1st Round #17 (950 pts) to New England for 2nd Round #12 (460 pts) and 2nd Round #15 (430 pts)
*** Trade *** 2011 1st Round Pick to Detroit for 2nd Round #2
Now for the picks.....
Lions and Tigers and Trades, Oh My... Mock Draft!
Some of the latest posts by people around MHR have gotten me excited for the draft coming up. For some of us, this is oftentimes more exciting than scheming. It is why some are coaches and some GM's. I seem to fall in the GM catagory as I love the offseason and the strategy which is implemented. In this mock draft I will try to think up some trades which will provide some picks which will provide a great deal of depth to our team. I believe there are 2 ways of building a team through the draft and we have seen these 2 during the past few regimes. One thought is to draft a player at a position of need to fill that gap, whether it is a reach or not. The other is take the best player available and build depth. I honestly think both philosophies can be successful but they have to be consistent and smart. As we have seen with McX, they appear to draft best player available, but on their board I imagine their grades include versitility. Versitility mediates the risk of continually taking players at the same position (IE: Lions with WR over the past decade). I will display my trades below followed by the picks after the jump. Enjoy!
*** Trade *** Brandon Marshall and #11 to the Seattle for #6 and #14 - After recently watching the Chiefs game at the end of the year. I am starting to think we can afford losing Marshall. He is a playmaker which will be missed. To some this trade is so crazy for Seattle that it won't happen. I contend that another deal may not be worth it if we lose BMarsh. While I don't agree with his antics, he is a playmaker in this offense.
*** Trade *** #6 (1600 pts) to Buffalo for #9 (1350 pts) and 3rd Round #8 (230 pts) and 2011 6th Round (31 pts) - Buffalo trades up to pick up Jimmy Clausen after Bradford is off the board. With Cleveland at #7 and no future quarterback, #6 is a great position for the Broncos This is what Buffalo's new regime needs to get started. Broncos pick up picks to build depth.
*** Trade *** #14 (1100 pts) to New England for #22 (780 pts) and 2nd Round #21 (165 pts) - Seems like a popular trade on MHR so I will use it. I like the extra 2nd round pick and the player I want to try to get at #22.
*** Trade *** 2011 1st Round Pick to Detroit for 2nd Round #2 - Before anyone has another heart attack here, let me break it down for you. We have a butt load of expensive FA's next year that I would like to keep and since I am the GM in this mock I choose to use next years 1st round money to resign Dumervil, C. Bailey, Orton (if he progresses this year), and Kuper (if he progresses this year). That is going to be some serious cash, not to mention the possibility of a lockout and the deep draft this year.
*** Trade *** Tony Scheffler to Washington for 2011 3rd Round - Anyone who says that Shanahan wouldn't do this is a liar. He gets a starter for his team who already knows his offense and who he drafted in the 2nd round. I don't think this is a bad deal for the Broncos as well. Same with the Hillis trade, if you ain't gonna use em, get what you can for em.
*** Trade *** Ronald Fields to the Dolphins for #12 in 4th Round
Now that the trades are out of the way, let the fun begin! After the jump....

Haggan at ILB during 2009 End of Season Chiefs Game
Just got done watching the Chiefs game at the end of the year last year. I haven't gone through all of the games to see how often it happened, but the Broncos were using Haggan at ILB during this game. He played at times next to Williams with Dumervil and Ayers at the OLB spots. By the way, our OLine looked pathetic in the game. Hope we get that fixed sometime this offseason. Sorry for the short post, I was trying to do a fanshot but didn't know which type to do.
Broncos 2010 Mock Draft
Now that my bracket is completely busted, it is time to get into draft mode. I have put together what I think would be a very solid draft for the future. I think the Broncos benefited greatly from the uncapped year in that they weren't in the final 8 and could keep many of their prize free agents for one more year without giving away the farm. After watching a few games from last year during the past week, Brandon Marshall is truly a beast on the field however I believe we have to create a culture on this team where the name on the front of the jersey means more than the name on the back and I just don't trust Marshall anymore. The same goes with Scheffler. Maybe I am naive, but in my business, you have to want to be at work to be effective. Those that aren't, simply don't make it throughout the long haul of a career. I believe the long term potential of a Marshall trade outweighs the short term glory of keeping him for next year. While that thought may be unpopular, I believe it is sound judgment for building an organization. Follow the draft after the jump....
