I'm not sure how accurate or how credible this report is, but Andy Strickland believes that Billy G has played his last NHL game.

"I hope I don't have to make [the drive from Wilkes-Barre and Pittsburgh] again. I didn't leave anything in storage there. I love Wilkes-Barre. I loved my time there but I'm ready to be a big Penguin and I'm ready to be here for a long time. It's a bad drive, but it's shorter on the way up."

Mark Letestu just keeps spilling out the quotes.
I love that he says he didn't leave anything in Wilkes-Barre - that's confidence.

Brent has come in and played really well and has been outstanding for us. He got an opportunity to play an extra game or two because he’s been going so well. But there’s a ton of games left and Marc-Andre Fleury is going to be the guy who’s going to play 60-plus games for us. He’s going to get back in there, and we know he’s going to play really well for us. So it’s great to be able to have Johnson go in and play really well for us and go in and get some wins. But we all know that Marc is going to do the same for us...We will see Marc back this road trip.

Dan Bylsma
If there was ever a doubt in anyone's mind that Fleury wasn't the goalie for the Pens, this quote is for you...

Vancouver's Rick Rypien attacks a Minnesota fan.
I don't care if the fan said something about Rypien's mother as he walked down the runway, he's a professional and the fan didn't touch him. I get that he was mad, but this was completely uncalled for. You guys should see the sucker punch he laid on a Wild player while the linesman was in between the two, which is what lead up to this mess. I hope the jerk gets suspended for at least a game for this.
UPDATE: I just posted the full incident. Basically, Rypien sucker punches a player, has to be restrained by the ref and his own teammates, then proceeds to attack a fan. Also, many media outlets are saying that this punishment could be very severe (20 games), so I guess this may be more serious than I thought.
One word that's guaranteed: Suspension.

"I don't even think my dad, who is probably the most biased Mark Letestu fan in the world, would have dreamed of something like this," Letestu said, acknowledging that his expectations have changed. "If it was a two- or three-game stretch, maybe it's luck; but it's over a month now, so maybe there's something to this."

Milan Michalek said brother Zbynek really wanted to join him in Ottawa, but the Senators targeted Sergei Gonchar instead. GM Bryan Murray said his four main interests were Gonchar, Michalek, Anton Volchenkov and Paul Martin. He called Gonchar first and was asked to make an immediate choice.

Elliotte Friedman
Interesting. Very interesting. Funny how things worked out.

"[Crosby's] the best player in the game," Carter said. "I thought as a whole, we did a pretty good job the first two periods, and then we started taking penalties and if you give him open ice, he's going to make plays."

Jeff Carter
That's what's called respect for your opponent. Carter gets burned by Sid every game, yet he keeps his cool. That's more than we can say about Mr. Leadership, who had pretty interesting post game comments.

PensBurgh Comrie a healthy scratch tonight?

Lines in practice this morning:
Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis
Tangradi-Letestu-Malkin
Cooke-Talbot-Kennedy
Rupp-Adams-Godard
(Comrie)

Comrie was the odd man out. At first blush, you'd think it'd be more about Godard getting to go against a physical Toronto team than Comrie not playing well. However, the fact that DB had moved Dupuis up to the 1st line and demoted Comrie to the 4th by the 3rd period against NJ on Monday makes me wonder if they really are unhappy with his play. I personally thought he had been playing well.
On second thought, who else would the Pens scratch? Rupp been playing well on the PK and PP. Talbot can't be scratched because we're already short enough on the PK as it is; same with Dupuis. Adams will only be scratched when he's injured. I guess the question DB had to ask was has Comrie out played LeTestu, TK, and Tangradi? The answer must've been no. Nonetheless, this news still surprises me.

On another note, my predictions for tonight: Crosby has 2 goals (one PP) and Gogo has 3 assists as the Pens beat the Leafs 4-2.

Zbynek Michalek could be seen walking past the dressing room today with his right shoulder in a black sling. It's expected he could be out for months, although more will be known when he sees a specialist later today.

LW PASCAL DUPUIS wore what resembled a bullet proof vest while working out after the game. It presumably wasn't anything like that, but he did give an amusing reply. "We are in Jersey, you know," he said with a grin.

However if you read some reports, Brooks himself has said he has continued to have discomfort through camp, and with this current groin injury it looks as though his body is compensating for [the discomfort the sports hernia surgery has caused] and restricting his skating stride. The club has come out and said the groin injury is not related to his hernia operation, well it is not directly related we can be 99% sure of that. The body is a pretty clever organism, if it is having difficulty moving about because of a restriction in one part, it will adapt somewhere else, obviously Orpik’s groin has had enough of trying to compensate and is in need of rest.

Cameron Walsh on Orpik's alleged groin injury
A very thorough article about his sports hernia surgery, very interesting.

Pittsburgh Penguins Meltdown Video
Everyone still feeling down last night needs to watch this!
Whoever did this is totally awesome!

I had a conversation with ‘Geno’ [about playing on the left point] and with other people as well. I asked him which spot he wants to play and that’s the one he wants to play. It’s a little different mindset. He should be attacking and on the offensive when he gets the puck and not stationary and left alone over there. I think sometimes he has felt that way in the past when he has played the point on the offside. That is not the case. This is a case where this player in that position should be getting the puck and attacking. He would rather be doing that on that side of the ice than the right side.

Dan Bylsma
The movement part is refreshing to hear, hopefully that starts to translate on ice. The part about the point is interesting, though. I remember Geno saying he was uncomfortable there a few years ago. No matter. All this means is that Crosby is definitely playing the half wall for now. Maybe both superstars start moving their feet a little more.

I haven't gotten a chance to watch it all yet because it's a 14 MINUTE interview. This has got to easily be the longest English interview Geno's ever done. And he doesn't just talk about hockey either.
UPDATE: Geno says his personal goal this year is to score 50. I bet he does it.

The Penguins are listing right wing Arron Asham as day-to-day with a shoulder injury, leaving his availability for the season opener Thursday against Philadelphia in question. Asham was evaluated by local doctors Monday and has not skated since suffering the injury Friday in Chicago. Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said that Tyler Kennedy will likely fill in on the third line if Asham can't play against the Flyers. The remainder of the third line should include center Mark Letestu and left wing Matt Cooke.

Another list. You know Sid was only #1 because TSN is based in Canada. There's no other way they would rank him over Crosby.
I was a little surprised to see them give Toews #3. I mean he had a fantastic year last year, but is he really only behind Sid and Ovechkin?

Orpik and Crosby are likely to practice Tuesday and play against Philadelphia in the regular-season opener, but the status of Asham is not known. Injured early Friday night in a loss at Chicago, he is still being evaluated by team doctors.

Not sure how Rossi got this info. All I know is that I hope he didn't look at DB's face to find the answer.

Crosby is unlikely to play Sunday afternoon at Detroit. Bylsma wouldn't say he was out, but his facial expression strongly suggested Crosby would sit the final exhibition game. However, regarding both Crosby and Orpik, Bylsma did hint that neither is expected to miss the regular-season opener Thursday at home against Philadelphia.

PensBurgh Something awesome is coming to my mailbox soon.

I'm sure you've all visited thePensBlog at sometime or another. I know some of you here are even frequent commenters over there. It's an awesome website; easily one of my favorites.

Well, a little over a month ago, I was browsing the new PensBlog site layout and saw the "Stephen S." tab. I clicked and came across this post. For someone who's always looked for unique Pens items, but didn't want to pay $1200 for a signed Sidney Crosby jersey, this was totally awesome.

So I emailed Stephen and a little over a month later, this piece of awesomeness came out of it:

New NHL commercial, featuring Sid, entitled "Questions will become answers." There's also similar spots with stars like OV and Miller.
I love it. Much better than some of the themes in years past.

He says he's not worried about it being long term, and that sitting out tonight is just a precaution. Considering it was "nothing" in the first place, I think this is at least a little cause for concern

Notice anything different about this picture?
Well, it's from the Pens Head Shot day video. Guess who's wearing the "A?" I know it's just for FSN, but it's got to mean something right?

He basically uses arguments with no substance. I think he's trying to stir the pot, really...or he could just be a Caps/Flyers fan.
