I write Maryland things at Testudo Times and college football things at SB Nation.

I was also on a billboard once. They did not pay me.

Among the highlights: shiftiness from Brandon Ross, Jacquille Veii and Albert Reid, a touchdown from Stefon Diggs and some pretty neat video editing.

The former high-profile recruit appears to have beaten out P.J. Gallo and Derrick Hayward for the position.

MM 8.12: Terps have a 'real shot' at Byron Cowart

Maryland is firmly in the running for one of the top talents in the nation.

MM 8.10: Camp continues, Media Day monday

News and observations from this weekend in Terps.

Watch Randy Edsall get a bucket of ice dumped on him

Edsall, C.J. Brown and Matt Robinson all helped raise ALS awareness with this fun video. They were challenged by strength coach Drew Wilson and SID Matt Taylor, and they've called out A.J. Francis, Dexter McDougle and Joe Vellano to do the same.

NCAA will appeal O'Bannon ruling

In an expected move, the NCAA is going to fight the recent court ruling.

Watch Maryland freshman Juwann Winfree's spectacular TD catch in practice

Winfree posted the video on his Twitter account. Remember, this is a blue-chip recruit who can do these things and is still on the outside looking in on the depth chart (at least for this year). Big Ten secondaries, watch out.

Kansas transfer Andrew White visiting Maryland

Via an IMS report, it appears the Terps are still in the running with White, competing with Virginia Tech and Nebraska. White was Andrew Wiggins's backup last season, scoring 2.4 points with 1.2 rebounds in 6.3 minutes per game. His numbers look significantly better at the per 40 minutes level, at 15.6 and 7.8 (and 17.9/9.3 as a freshman). White was a highly regarded recruit coming out of the Miller School in Virginia, ranking as the 54th-best player in the nation and the 15th-best small forward.

Oregon has a monopoly on NFL preseason return TDs

Two rookies from the Pac-12 power have introduce themselves in style.

Camp notes: Updates on RB battle and QBs

Some injury updates and other observations.

4-star SF Dillon Brooks may re-classify to 2014, considering Maryland

In other "Maryland may pick up a surprising 2014 recruit" news, top Canadian prospect Dillon brooks is reportedly thinking of re-classifying up to 2014 and enrolling immediately at a school. From the story:

"Right now there isn't one school who I'd say is recruiting me harder than any other school, but Iowa State, Kansas State, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Oregon, and Maryland are the schools talking to me on a regular basis," Brooks said."

He recently led the FIBA Americas tournament by scoring 25.2 points per game. He's described as a 'tweener' in the story linked above. Here's a highlight video:

Terps reportedly in it for rejected SC recruit

Could the Terps land a former highly recruited player late in the offseason?

Texas AD Patterson stirs up controversy yet again

While speaking at a forum about college athletics, Patterson made controversial comments about smaller programs and sports.

Ivan Bender commits, will enroll spring semester

Mark Turgeon has once again pulled a European big man out of a hat. A very, very tall hat.

Bryce Petty can jump higher than these NBA stars

Higher than their combine numbers, at least.

Did Maryland just pick up another European big man?

That's a tweet from a few days ago from Bosnian sports journalist Igor Marinovic, claiming Maryland has landed Croatian prospect Ivan Bender, who stands at 6'9" . Coupled with this story by Luke Winn on superstar prospect (and Ivan's brother) Dragan Bender, which says Ivan is "expected to play for Maryland next season as a freshman," and it appears the Terps may be picking up some frontcourt help sooner than anticipated. Maryland basketball to play Arizona State in CBE Hall of Fame Classic

The game will take place on November 24 in Kansas City at 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPNU. The other two teams in the tournament are Alabama and heavy favorites Iowa State. Maryland is 1-1 all-time against Arizona State and have not played them since the 1994 Maui Invitational. The Terps appeared in this tournament in 2007, going 2-2.

Second day of camp notes and quotes

Impressions of Derwin Gray and Damian Prince!

Auden Tate commits to Florida State, says Terps were runners-up

Tate committed to Florida State Tuesday as expected, but apparently says Maryland was the runner-up (an interesting comment, considering he previously said Michigan and Florida State would be his officials). Being a finalist isn't necessarily a win for local recruits, but when you can make a serious run at a big-time Florida talent that FSU wants? That should make some serious reverberations in future classes. While the Terps are unlikely to grab any of that big Florida group (Byron Cowart, George Campbell and Ryan Davis are the ones that are left), the fact that they're talking up Maryland can only lead to good things in that area in the future.
