This may be old news by now, but just in case,

USA Today article

Naughty boy.

This could be serious or it could be nothing, we will find out soon. It starting to seem like maybe Rich wasnt the stand-up guy everyone thought he was. Hopefully, there was nothing illegal about this whole thing.

First off, if we didnt have Brohm, we would probably only win four games this year (still possible). I dont know where you place the blame but it has to start with the coaches. Now, Im not going to go into an endless diatribe about the coaching (we've already seen plenty of that and there is still more to come) but I believe in accountability and the buck stops there.

Now, lets get down to the shit. I could not be more disgusted with the fans. Ive never booed, but I defended the right to do so in certain situations, and plenty of those situations have arose this season. Booing the home team is prevalant in every sport on every level. Professional teams are constantly booed by their own fans. However, what is inexcusable is the fact that some of our fanbase think they can waltz into the game late, especially on national television. When I look into the stands five game minutes into the first quarter and see huge chunks of empty seats, it enrages me. But what pisses me off more? The fact that 10,000+ fans decided to leave with an entire quarter of football to be played. I was pissed during the Syracuse game, but was livid tonight.

I have been against the stadium expansion since it was first conceived because some of our fans are blinded by the BCS hype and Heisman candidates and dont support the team unconditionally. There is no way we should add another 20,000 seats because that is just more empty chairs for the TV cameras when bad times arrive. I cant tell you how embarrassed I was to be a fan and have to deal with the fact that some people poison the perception of our loyal fans and we are made out to be opportunists. Riding the success while dismissing our squad when times are tough. That is shameful.

Just imagine what our team would have been able to accomplish in the fourth quarter if all of Papa Johns would have been rocking and the team had all 40,000 encouraging them. The same goes for the Syracuse game. I hate being lumped in with all those disloyal assholes. I was told that the announcers made negative comments about our fans on multiple occasions. How embarassing.

The team is not playing well and Ill let every other talking-head, commentor, and blogger talk about that. But I am a fan. And as a fan, I was disgusted by the actions of other fans. I hope the people saying that booing is wrong were not the same people trying to beat traffic, leaving early. Because, I believe the latter is way more disrespecful and detrimental towards the team.

P.S. I think the poll option is abused sometimes on this blog, but I have to know what everyone thinks on this subject.

I always cheer for Big East teams but this weekend I bet against Rutgers and South Florida and, I was miserable watching those games. This is why I dont bet against the Cards or the Colts, the conflicting emotions are brutal. I couldnt enjoy the Rutgers stomping (they looked damn good) and I was only marginally happy for the Bulls, which sucks because I have been waiting for that upset since the schedules came out. I refused to take the Cards -41. I am glad the handicappers had more faith in our defense than I did. But I did take Syracuse +24. Fucking Orangemen. How could such a storied program suck so much ass? Michigan came up lame and cost me, as did Georgia. Thank God the Irish are awful. Typing that just makes me happy, "the Irish are awful". Ah, that almost makes all the other lost wages worthwhile. When in doubt, bet against Notre Dame.

All in all I went a humiliating 1-5 against the spread in college football this weekend. Enough to make the most stoic gambler lay down in traffic. Oh, but wait. Redemption, thy name is NFL. I went an unbelievable 9-1 ATS on Sunday (and Thursday's fantastic Colts showing), including a couple of huge parlays that are going to buy me a steak dinner every night this week. The only bet I lost was the Jets +6 1/2 against the Patriots. Fucking Patriots, I hate the Patriots and they looked scary. After Moss' huge game, they wont need to pass to him the rest of the year. Every team is going to focus on him and Brady can just fire it off to anyone else or hand the ball of to Kool-Aid loving, ass washing, begul shitting, Laurence Maroney. But, I digress. This is a college football blog and Im getting off topic. Must be the Construda. (Google it)

There was a point to this post.....oh yeah, never bet against teams that you want to cheer for. Regardless of what your head tells you might be a good play, stay away from it. It will ultimately spoil and cheapen the outcome, no matter what happens. I understand some of you dont gamble or think that it is morally corrupt. And I agree, gambling can be a serious problem for some. But the only serious problem I have is my future heart failure from all these porterhouses and filets. How can you call it gambling when Im making all this money?

I havent posted a diary since the basketball season (mainly because Im lazy and dont have an original thought in my head) but since we are up to about two diary posts/day, I figured I'd get in on the action.

In prior years, I would've gladly made a prediction as to how I think our season would go. But this year, its so up in the air that I dont want to jinx us. Its a very strange, new feeling to start the season and say we either have a chance to play for a national title or, possibly, finish third in our conference.

I now know what the fans of elite programs go through every year. It is a bit stressful, but its better than the alternative, (Wondering if we are going to get past ECU, Southern Miss, etc. so I can spend my New Years Eve in miserably cold Memphis. Dont get me wrong, I always had a good time at the Liberty Bowl and the people of Memphis were always nice, but places like Miami and New Orleans couldnt be more perfect to offset the miserable chill of winter. Plus, Beale Street is just Bourbon Street Jr.)

I have anxiety issues this time of year because the season is about to start, and Im nervous. If August 30th doesnt get here soon Im going to die from this horrible feeling in my stomach (I call it butterflies but my doctor calls it cancer). When I stop and think about how much emotion I put into the Cards, it reminds me of Steve Martin in "Parenthood", when he is talking about his son's little league baseball game,

"Isnt that demented? That a grown man's happiness depends on whether a nine-year old catches a pop-up. What if he missed?"

So, what will happen if the Cards "miss"? Well, there will be lots of tears shed. And blood. Not mine, other peoples. I dont deal with stress well.

Early Bold Prediction = I do, however, think that we will make it to the '08 Final Four.

While I am glad that Chris Redman will be back on the sidelines again (it will give me a chance to pull my #7 Cards jersey out of the closet, yep, still fits), I dont want a reason to cheer for the Falcons. I want them to do worse then last year. Not only did they fail to cover the spread week in and week out, but they got that snake coaching now. Plus, I loathe Ron Mexico and his degenerate brother, Marcus. Go ahead, sign Redman, and then pick up Ragone while your at it. Draft Bush and then go after Brohm next year. Excuse me, I have to throw up. And cry...... at the same time.

The contemptible Sports Guy, Bill Simmons, talked about Coach Pitino in his latest Page 2 entry,

"By the way, maybe my HD picture is especially good, but is anyone aging stranger than Rick Pitino? It's like seeing one of those bad movies that spans a period of time -- like the crappy Prefontaine movie with Jared Leto -- where they use makeup to "age" the actors for a scene 20 years later, only the makeup people did a crappy job and every scene is completely disorienting. I don't think Pitino's been outside since 1989."

While I usually disagree with damn near everything this Boston-sport-cocksucking talking head has to say, I agr.. I agr.., I cant say it. Bill Simmons is a douche.

That being said, I have noticed the decline in appearance of Coach Pitino, especially during the broadcasts of the Big East tournament. For five years, I have heard from countless people saying, "Wow, Coach Pitino is looking old." I always responded in kind, "Well, he's getting old. Thats what happens. He's no spring chicken." (What the f is a spring chicken anyway?) Recently, he hasnt looked healthy to me. Everyone knows that there has been plenty of tragedy and stress for Pitino, enough to take its toll on the strongest of men. Or maybe its the cigars, sucking the color and life out of his face. Or maybe its my sweet ass 42inch plasma HD, opening up a window of clarity that had been closed, boarded, and bricked over before. (Seriously how do you rubes live with those tubey, blocky, grandma boxes. HD is the balls.)

Oh well. I guess this is open for discussion. And some people might not say they agree. But one fact remains that we can all agree on, Bill Simmons sucks.
