• Signed late in spring training, 29-year-old former Pirates prospect Steve Pearce has been Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s best hitter this season, and he was just named the International League Player of the Week. He had three home runs, four doubles, slugged .920 and hit .400 for the week. The hot streak brought his league-leading average up to .361. Primarily a first base, Pearce can play the outfield corners and has gotten a little bit of time at third base. Don’t rule him out as a possible bat off the bench at some point this season.

Angels need a closer now. Mark Trumbo hit 29 HRs last year, but isn't cutting it at third. He is blocked by Albert and Morales at 1B. Daniel Tillman is a closer almost MLB ready closer.

Too much? Too little? Not interested?

Bucs Dugout Mitch Moreland, 1B

If my little fat Prince (Fielder) signs with Texas, this damaged youngster with potential could use a home and might be cheap.

Texas 1B Mitch Moreland is expected to begin swinging a bat next week for the first time since having wrist surgery last November. Moreland was expected to need eight to 12 weeks to recover, which puts his status to begin spring training in question. The 26-year-old posted 16 homers and 51 RBI while hitting .259 last season. The Rangers could make an upgrade at first base and are reportedly chasing free agent 1B Prince Fielder, who would take over Moreland's spot in the field.
