Dirk and the Mavs need to get it done... and in a hurry!
The more time that passes without a signature on a new deal for Dirk, the less opportunity the Mavericks have at adding elite level help for Dirk.
Engaging The Enemy: The Houston Rockets
Well folks it is game night again, and I have had about all I can stand, for this week anyhow, of trying to design a new template for my usual game previews. So what I thought we would do as a simple diversion from the norm, was get with tonight's opponent for a little Q&A.
I reached out to Lee Grammier over at The Dreamshake and he so graciously accepted the invite. Since I am a refugee in Houston from Arlington, Texas I have the privilege of listening to all the Dallas smack talk. Generally speaking people from Houston despise everything in or from Dallas. When ever a Dallas team plays a Houston team it is a big deal around here.
Another blowout of the Rockets tonight would be awesome. Make sure you stop over and pay a visit to those guys, they will be posting my answers to their questions.
So without further delay here are my questions to The Dreamshake, and what they had to say.
Happy 54th birthday to Brad Davis

Eddie Sefko - Mavericks win in Oklahoma City
These Mavericks are better equipped to handle tough situations, a fact driven home at the Ford Center with a strong-willed 100-86 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Eddie Sefko - Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs defense turn up the heat on Kevin Durant and the debut of the "Creamsicle"
It was a night of orange shoes for Kevin Durant. But his footwear was the only hot thing he had going Wednesday night.
Brandon George (Dallas News) - Jason Kidd and how time and experience have changed his game.
At 36, Jason Kidd certainly isn't as quick as he once was. But the criticism he sometimes receives for not being the defender he was earlier in his career is unwarranted, his teammates say.
Age slows everyone down but for most, it also brings wisdom. Kidd's not always going to be able to outrun the NBA's quickest guards, but he certainly can still hold them down by outsmarting them.
AP ESPN - Dallas Mavericks win in Oklahoma City
Nowitzki scored 13 of his 35 points in the final 8 minutes and the Mavericks used a late surge to spoil Durant's sneaker debut and beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 100-86 Wednesday night for their fifth straight win.
NBA.com - Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks get victory over Kevin Durant and Thunder.
In a nationally televised battle between superstars, Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki had one of his better games, scoring 35 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant had one of his worst, scoring just 12 points and committing four turnovers.
Hopefully there is some video out there of Jason Kidd getting even with Referee Scott Wall, after Wall calls a foul on Kidd that he did not agree with.

Mavericks Vs Heat: Game 23 Preview
Phil is out tonight so you have me (zdgmans) coming off the bench (don't get used to it). To his credit, he did write part of this post!
The Mavericks Tim Thomas an apparent "accomplice" in early morning brawl at Dennys
In the wee hours of the morning yesterday the Mavs forward and a group of friends were out celebrating the one point victory against phoenix. Sometime around 3 A.M. they entered a Dennys in Highland Park and a brawl broke out.
A Tip of the Hat to skyhook for finding the story.
Looking at The Numbers: What is Wrong with the Mavericks
Well I started to write a big long post about the Mavericks recent struggles, and how that those struggles are the direct effect of not having Josh Howard. However I must be honest, the more stats, graphs, and charts that I looked at the more confused I became.
zdgmans and I were having a discussion this morning about this ridiculous "3 guard" line up that Carlisle has fallen in love with. My early thoughts were that the coaches had actually snookered themselves with this line up. I just could not grasp the thought process of this thing. Carlisle seems to go to this (Kidd, Jason Terry, JJ Barea) exclusively against longer more athletic teams, and even more puzzling at the end of games.
This is so puzzling to me because as I see the line up, Carlisle sacrifices shooting scoring ability with quickness. Do not get me wrong speed in the NBA is a wonderful tool that not many teams have, however a fast team that shoots 30% from the field is far worse than a slow team that shoots 50%.
Mavericks Vs Spurs: Game 12 Preview
Time To Take Off The Handcuffs
Normally I do not second guess people that know more about a subject than I, but in this particular case I must. Rick Carlisle has at least made the determination that Roddy B should be the starter at the two spot (for now at least) but what is becoming so troublesome is that he refuses to give him starters minutes.
Minutes distribution has been ... well hideous when it comes to Roddy B, let's take last night for example. Going into the game with the Bucks, the main objective was to keep Brandon Jennings under wraps. Roddy B met that challenge head on and was winning the battle for 3 quarters, holding Jennings to just 12 points. Then for no apparent reason Carlisle went with Barea for a long stretch in the 4th and guess what? You got it, Jennings went off for 13 in the 4th to rally the Bucks and push the game into overtime.
Anyone who has watched a Mavs game this season can attest to how stagnant the Mavs become when Barea spends a significant amount of time on the floor. Yes he has had a few games where everything was going perfectly and he looked like an all star, but those times are few and far between. So what is the deal? Is Barea getting more minutes and opportunity because he has been here longer? Whatever the circumstances are, they need to change, and they need to change quickly. Rodrigue Beaubois is proving to be a special kind of player, and it is time to get the kid more minutes.
Do these stats tell you that Barea should have a 47% minutes share?
How good are the Mavs starters?
I new they were off to a good start, but had no idea it was this good.
Mavericks Vs Spurs: What Went Wrong?
The Mavericks rolled into San Antonio last night with a full head of steam after throttling the Houston Rockets the night before. The Spurs came into the game missing their two top players in Tony Parker (ankle), and Tim Duncan (ankle) Mavericks roll to victory right? Not so fast.
The Mavericks shot an abysmal 35% from the field, Erick Dampier finally decided to take a night off, J.J. Barea was once again awful, and Rick Carlisle made serious miscues with his line up decisions.
Breaking Down The Mavs, A Numbers Game
Found some pretty interesting data on our Mavs over at 82 Games and wanted to share them with you. Specifically take a look at our guard play and at the hideousness that has been Drew Gooden.
Mavericks Vs Rockets: Game 7 Preview
For tonight's game preview, I decided to change things up a little bit. So yesterday I got with Lee Grammier and the guys over at The Dream Shake to exchange thoughts on tonight's match ups.
We decided to do a joint game preview, I hope you enjoy what we got put together for you, and make sure you head over to their site and leave them a comment. Keep it clean though, and by all means let them know why the Rockets will lose tonight.
Mavericks Vs Raptors: Game 6 Preview
Is this the game that the Mavs finally start to get their shooting stroke back? We can only hope. This may be the perfect game for us and them to truly see what kind of team it is going to be. Do not get me wrong by no means are the Raptors a good basketball team, but they are a team that the Mavs "should" put away and put away early. The Mavericks have several areas of concern and tonight is as good a night as any to begin to get those issues cleaned up.

Mavericks at Hornets: Game 5 Preview
Dirk Nowitzki Takes Control and Proves a Point
What started out as one of the most disgusting displays of basketball, turned into "where amazing happens" in a blink of an eye.
The Mavericks continued their abysmal shooting (mainly because they continue to live by the jump shot) however they never lacked in the defense department. Everyone continues to chip in on the defensive end.
The Mavs defense is the only thing that kept them in the game, but through the first 4 minutes of the fourth quarter not even that could keep them close. The Utah Jazz (who also shot horrifically) began to stretch their lead and left most of us believing the Mavs were done.
Then out of nowhere Dirk took over! The basketball Gods decided to remove the "Lid" that had been placed atop the basket.
