Born in Syracuse, attended Syracuse University for graduate work. Still live here, try to get to as many games as I can. I like to plan at least one rockin' tailgate during football season ,and do one away game for basketball a year, but those plans might get hijacked by the ACC move!

Orange Football Recruiting 2012: "My God, its full of stars.."
So there we have it. Outside of any possible stragglers, we have completed our recruiting odyssey for the 2012 year. With it comes fresh hope and promise that these young men will continue to lead the program in the right direction under the watchful, Dove bar-loving eyes of Coach Marrone and staff. So how did we do as per the scouting services?
Fab Melo's "Academic Issue" Rumor Mill
The fact that they didn't come right out and say he was ineligible says a lot. If he had failed a class or failed to meet a requirement, it would sadly be a done deal at that time, but with them seemingly optimistic about getting back to play, I was trying to find out what else could account for it.
Are we the most boring #1 in the rankings?
What is it about us that doesn't fire up the ESPN bobble-heads and sports writers of the nation? Are we too deep for them to comprehend? Do they hate that we don't have 1 standout star night after night that they can point to and say "He's the reason they win?" Do they just not care this early in the season? Or has the NBA finally taking off just distracted them?
You know its a crappy job market when Syracuse Alumni have to resort to these kind of shenanigans

TNIAAM Meetup: The Saltine Warrior - UConn vs Cuse - Saturday 1130AM
This week, a few of us went to the Saltine Warrior to watch the Llllvllllll game and check out the establishment to see if it met all the criteria for a local meetup spot for those of us in the Nunes Crew. We found that it really did. Good cheap drinks, lots of TVs, and a dedication to watching SU sports. We have a lot of away basketball being played this year after football, and it would be nice if we could find a place for local TNIAAM fans to call "our own"
Get To Know Your Local Syracuse Watering Hole: The Saltine Warrior
Well, they finally went ahead and just named a local bar "The Saltine Warrior". The big part is living up to the name. So AndyKinsella, StealthTurkey and Pinker went to go check it out.
The Straight Dope On Ryan Nassib
I have posted this twice since I wrote it up yesterday, I thought it might make for an interesting read on its own so I am going to post it here for comment. I think its tough to see the forest for the trees with Ryan. He is not the most impressive or commanding QB to watch during gameplay, but his statistics are creeping up to some pretty impressive levels. Here is the straight dope on Nassib, and a comparison to the three quarterbacks ahead of him on the Greatest Hits chart for Syracuse Football.
via t2.gstatic.com
Before anyone criticizes Ryan Nassib, two things need to be made clear:
1.) He is the best QB Syracuse has had since McNabb - easily surpassing RJ Anderson, Paulus, Robinson, Dantley, Patterson, and Nunes.
2.) In the next 1.5 seasons, he may be second only to McNabb in terms of performance during his career, based on the last 40 years of Syracuse QB history. He would surpass Marvin Graves and Don McPherson in total yardage and TD's if he stays on track.

2013: Return of the 4 star recruit?
Yeah, we havent had a 4 star recruit in a couple years - maybe 3 now? The last one we had playing for us graduated last year with Delone Carter. Definitely correct me if Im wrong on that.
"Open Audition" for WR/RB for the Tulane Game
Axe had some pretty interesting Marrone comments quoted in his latest article
We need an orangehoops.org for SU Football
After TNIAAM, OrangeHoops.org is my favorite SU sports web site. I love the other blogs, (Orange44, The Juice, Orange Fizz) dont get me wrong, but these two sites are the ones I spend most of my time at. My only question is: why haven't we stepped up and created a commensurate site for Orange Football?
Pinker's Guide to "Flaskin' It" for Dome games
via www.iflasks.com
The Drought is over. The wait nears its end. Cuse football. Cuse basketball. The time honored tradition of the hike up to the Dome, praying to the college ball gods for victory. Getting your Dome foams and nachos grande fix. Wearing your favorite orange SU gear. And for me, the comforting weight of a hip flask of liquid fandom secured on my person, secreted into the Dome.
The Football Recruiting Cyclone
Impressive, 16 commitments for 2012 before the 2011 season even starts....patterns seem to be emerging.
Broyld And Smallwood NOT joining Syracuse Orange in 2011
Academics are the most likely cause. HCDM stated Broylds legal woes not a factor.
CHADWICK'S SPORTS BAR & GRILL: Syracuse and Steelers Fans find a common watering hole
This is an entry in the Get To Know Your Local Syrause Watering Hole series. If you would like to claim a local SU bar of your own, simply email Sean and get to writing.
Chadwick's Sports Bar and Grill is in East Syracuse on James Street. It is one of my favorite watering holes in Syracuse to watch Cuse games. And while Im not going to argue with OrangeChuck at all that Tully's is a primo place to watch Cuse games, as I have spent many an evening there.....it can sometimes get crowded early..and by crowded I mean..ass to nuts... with the crowd around you....not always the most pleasant experience. But Im not going to argue on any of his points as I'm a Tenders Dinner addict myself. So, if you find your local Tullys to be the equivalent of a Syracuse sardine can, roll on over to....

Upstate/Downstate GameThread - 2pm EST
I will be there to check out the new recruits. Sounds like Doug took the day off to watch at home to avoid any possible conflict of interest with NCAA guidelines, a good excuse to give the man an afternoon off - and hopefully to eat a bologna sammich and have some Gatorade while watching the best of what NYS high school football has to offer.
"Orange head coach Doug Marrone, who said he’s forbidden by NCAA recruiting rules from watching the all-star practices or attending the game, plans to watch it on television."
Bummer dude. But lucky for me, I am immune to any such infractions. The game will be broadcast on TWCS channel 13 (SD) and 813 (HD). It may be also streaming at the TWCS.tv site if you are a TW customer. The game does not look like its on SNY.
Spring Game Photo Recap
Hello fellow Magicians, I thought I would give you a recap of the photos I took of the game. Stayed all 4 quarters with the Lil Orange, he had a great time watching the game, eating bad food, and this time cheering for the correct team, since it was all Syracuse. (He just turned 3, and sometimes still cheers whenever anyone makes a big play. Oh, to be a child again)

THE OUTRAGE
One of Scout.com's Anonymous Staff posts listed the rankings for Big East coaches you want to build your program over the next five years. Am I biased or is this just complete BS. DANA HOLGORSEN?!?! GREG SCHIANO?!?!?! OVER DOUG? Are you KIDDING ME??!

"We like his energy, he got some big offensive stick back and he’s done a good job of getting back in shape and staying positive through the lack of playing time." - Vipers coach Chris Finch on A.O.
NunesTailGate 2K11 Edition
Its never too early to plan a huge tailgate people. Since the football schedule has been finalized for 2011, I thought I would take this opportunity to get people onboard with the tailgate this year. Consider this to be your "Save The Date" card for the marriage of Syracuse Tailgating to Awesomeness, guys and gals.
So why didnt Boeheim offer Jimmer a spot?
The line: Jim Boeheim was an idiot who passed on Jimmer from Glenns Falls NY, and didnt make an offer to him because hes just so stupid and always plays zone and would be way better if he played man and just retired and was less whiny, because my opinion that I formed in my mothers basement at age 35 is obviously more informed than a HOF coach with 50 years of experience playing and coaching basketball. STUPID BOEHEIM.

See what Brent Axe had to say about Ryan Nassib as a recruit in February of 2008. I find it rather amusing. Give your opinion using the poll at the end of the post.

Bad News From G-Town Athletic Department
I got some rather disturbing news from my interactions with Jared Yusufi at their Athletic Department. Apparently, there are NO tickets available anymore for this game!!!! Can it be?
Who would love to see NCAAF Conference 1st Team Bowls?
While its always an afterthought to the Superbowl, the Pro Bowl is usually a pretty good game. Its a solid idea. Take the best of the best in your two conferences, and pit them against one another. Whose to say the same wouldn't work for NCAA football as well? Most of the players are somewhat inactive from January to August.
