It looks like Brackman is falling in the draft. The question becomes do you want to go for the high risk /high reward player at #16 or #21?

Assume money/Boras isn't a factor (I have all the fictional money in the world!).

Separate the HS Pitchers.. aka MOD Jays #2

There's a bunch of HS pitchers in the 10-20 range. The Jays pick at 16 and 21 and I'd like to separate the group of pitchers in that range. So, who's at the top and why?

I've excluded Porcello, Aumont, and Parker as I expect they'll all go in the top 10 (and at the very least before 16).

MOD I: Blue Jays

The Jays select at #16, 21, 38, 45, 56, 86, 89 in the first two rounds.

For now, let's focus on the picks in the first round.

In the prospect lists that I've seen there's a lot of HS pitchers in the 12-25 range. Unless someone really drops (Parker, Aumont, Harvey) I'm not sure there's any one I'd be interested in.

Among college pitchers there isn't anyone I'd take at 16. Perhaps Weathers or Cecil at 21.

Beau Mills is the hitter I really like if he's there. I'm not crazy about Laporta despite the numbers. I also like a bunch of the HS hitters if they drop - Moustakas, Heyward, Dominguez, and maybe Burgess. If it sounds like Canham can stick at catcher I'd consider him as well.

Ok, barring any major changes with a prospect (like an injury) we're set for the first round pick.

Now we have to focus on Rounds 3-5. The picks are 86, 116, and 146.

As is the team's general philosophy we'll focus on college players with these three picks. I'm using Baseball America's top 200 list as a guideline, so if there's a college player that isn't ranked over 70 there's probably not much of a chance that they'll drop to the third round.

I suspect that there'll be more of an emphasis on college players in the mock draft if for no other reason than there more to analyze with college players so even college players ranked 80-100 will probably be gone at pick 86.

Also, apparently Chase Headley is no longer a secret (at least in these parts).

With the first 4 picks, unless certain players drop further than expected, I anticipate taking 2 hitters and pitchers or 3 hitters and 1 pitcher.

For the first three rounds of the draft the Blue Jays have two picks. The first is number 6 overall, and the second pick will be in the third round, somewhere between 86-88, overall.

For the time being we'll focus on the #6 pick overall. Next week we'll work on the third round pick (the second round pick was lost when Koskie was signed).

We'll also go with the assumption that anyone is available to draft, including Boras clients and high school players.

There's 14 players in contention for the pick, in order from their ranking from Baseball America. It's very likely that 5 of these 14 will be gone when #6 comes up.
