A realistic "Beef" piece that could have been added?

Reggie Evans

Someone feel free to look up the restrictions on when this guy would be available again. He was just traded this offseason to Toronto. He was picked up for Jason Kapono (not much)...

This guy averaged almost 5 rebounds in only 14.5 minutes per game. He is a selfless player, tough, and plays solid defense.

His name is Reggie Evans. Why do we not even explore trying to get a guy like this?

He could have thrown a different element into our lineups and wouldn't require a major load of minutes that would have taken away from Randolph, Biedrens, or even Randolph.

Evans could have been had for Bellineli (no doubt about it) and with out log jam at guard this would have been a WONDERFUL addition to our team. He is an undersized (height wise) post player but is capable of playing minutes at the 4 or 5 (at times) and even improved his horrible free throw shooting up to almost 60% last season.

He is comparable chemistry wise to Ronnie Turiaf. Every team Evans has played on he is always seen on the bench cheering on his teammates, waiving towels, and seems to be well liked by his teammates.

Obviously Evans would not have been a "championship" missing piece. I'm not crazy. But the guy was to be had for the cheap and fills a lot of areas we lack in.

Simply stated we dropped the ball on this guy and Toronto slipped in and took away a wonderful option that we neglected.

Why not Nash in 09/10?

I've seen several (20-25) games of the Suns this year on League Pass and I think Nash easily has another 2 years left in the right situation.

What better situation than playing under the coach that loved him first and the coach that he first flourished under?

We all know that Nash (esp. at this point in his career) is not going to be accused of playing lock down defense but who are we going to get to play lock down defense in our system?

I believe Nash is a FA after this season (I could be wrong it could be the year after but I believe I am correct) but even if I am wrong and it is the year after we could possibly get him cheaply as the Suns will most likely be rebuilding when Shaq leaves for 1 more contract from a contender.

I know that the Nash/Ellis backcourt would be trouble defensively but I think we could get away with it at home from time to time and what better teammate/teacher could Monta Ellis have than Nash to help him mature into a great point guard leading our Dub's for years to come long after Nash rides off into the sunset.

On the other side of the coin....What better filler to have at the point could there be for a couple of years if Monta was needed to be put into a blockbuster in order to get a "big name", i.e. Bosh, player via a trade?

If Monta ended up leaving because of a major trade we would have Nash for a couple of years to teach a youngster (Brandon Jennings possibly?) how to run a professional basketball team.

He already knows all of Nellies systems and Nellie has admitted over the Dallas radio waves that Cuban not willing to pay Nash was what started Nellie/Cubans riff raff and eventually Nellies leaving.

We all know Nash isn't the B2B MVP anymore but I truly believe that surrounded with the right pieces (Randolph is going to be a star, Ellis?, Beans?, Bosh?, Jack, etc) he is still very capable of leading a team into the playoffs and would be a very exciting player that can still get our best scorers (Morrow/Jack/Maggs/Monta) easy baskets.

Thoughts?

I am sick to my stomach at how bad Biedrins is getting killed on the boards since he has come back from the appendectomy.

I remember he was really starting to play at a high level and now he is back to damn near terrible again.
Do you think he is scared to hurt himself???
Before the surgery he was having some 20+ rebounds games and now game after game he is picking up terrible fouls and getting killed on the boards giving up offensive board after offensive board.

Thoughts?? Opinions???

PW

According to Ray Ratto at this link:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/02/22/SPBRV6IPS.DTL

Beans could miss 8-15 games and up to a month.

I don't know about you but if this is the case I think our playoff chances are down in smoke.

The next 3 games are all winnable without him (Atlanta, Seattle, Philadelphia) all at home.
Although Atl could cause us some probs tonight with their length and size (J. Smith & Horford).

After that though Beans being gone will make it tough on us to win against the West. His rebounding, pick setting, and the way he finishes
around the rim are all pivotal to the Dubs success.

IMO Goose is one of the most underrated bigs in the league and his lack of presence will have a terrible trickle down effect.

Hopefully Ray Ratto is wrong and Biedrins is back in a week. If so he would only miss 3 games, 2 of which we can easily win without him.

Go Dubs!!!
