Probably the most comprehensive scouting report ever published on Jeremy Lin (12/15/09)
Even to me, it's amazing that "The Jeremy Lin Show" has reached the NBA level (more on the origins of that phrase in a future blogpost). But not all of this is coming out of thin air. Yes, Jeremy has actually done this before, on a fairly consistent basis. Why didn't anyone think it was translatable to the NBA? That's a question that has a complex answer and is also probably worth a separate post.
Following up on Atma's fanshot, here's the link to the original "most comprehensive" scouting report, and if you want my brief take on it now looking back, hit the jump...
Could I possibly go out on a limb again? Haha, sure. You only live once! Here you go:
Next stop for The Jeremy Lin Show: the Olympics. Why not? You never thought it was possible to reach the NBA despite what he did at Paly or Harvard. Why not for Team USA? You heard it here first.
Preview & Game Thread #22: Oklahoma City Thunder at Golden State Warriors - Groundhog Day?
Oklahoma City Thunder (19-5) at Golden State Warriors (8-13)
TV: CSN Bay Area & NBA TV | Radio: KNBR 680
Blog Buddy: Welcome To Loud City
OK, I guess Groundhog Day was five days ago, but we could easily call this preview "Deja Vu All Over Again?" Let's hope not. Last time OKC came into town, just twelve days ago, they shellacked the Dubs, 120-109. Kevin Durant had 37-and-14, Russell Westbrook 28 pts 11 ast, Serge Ibaka 20-and-12, and the Warriors were outrebounded 61-40.
Andris Biedrins played for 9 minutes to start the game and then sat on the bench the rest of the way, with Mark Jackson citing that the Thunder didn't have a bonafide post player for AB to guard.
Recap #20: Golden State Warriors 119, Utah Jazz 101 - 71 points in the 2nd half, More from Media Credential Land
Well, so much for my infatuation with the Utah Jazz franchise. With the Jazz backcourt depleted, without the services of Raja Bell, Devin Harris, and Earl Watson, the Warriors took advantage and outscored the Jazz 71-55 in the 2nd half. It was the Dubs' first blowout win since last April 2011, when there were two against the Portland Trail Blazers (thanks to our very own Nate Parham for the find).
Here's another Media Credential Experience for you to digest...

The Utah Jazz: Rebuilding A Franchise, Case Study For Golden State Warriors Fans
I got a chance to catch the Utah Jazz yesterday in their heartbreaking loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. If you're a Warriors fan, that game made you want to tear your insides out. Not only were you witnessing Chris Paul, all six feet of him, single-handedly put away a scratching and clawing -- otherwise deserving -- young team like the Jazz, but the Jazz were looking pretty solid.
Not bad for a franchise that once squelched the magic of "We Believe" on the backs of superstars Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer, both of whom eventually made controversial departures.
Let's discuss (and help me out in the comments) how the Warriors and the Jazz got to where they are now...

Game Thread #19: Sacramento Kings at Golden State Warriors - Poll: Keith Smart or Mark Jackson?
Kings (6-14) at Warriors (6-12)
Tipoff: 730pm PST
TV: CSN Bay Area

Things have gotten so bad for both teams, neither NBA team website has a preview for this game. So let us divert our attention to the more interesting topic. At this point, sitting at 6-12, would you (loyal Warriors fan) rather have Keith Smart, who is 4-9 since he took over, or Mark Jackson? Vote below!

Recap #15: Indiana Pacers 94, Golden State Warriors 91 - Monta Ellis goes too late again, history repeating itself
Game Thread (900+ comments)
Sensory overload on the last critical play here. Sooo many things to talk about. But before I do that, let me preface by saying it's hard not to be too scathing on the Warriors and their basketball operations -- I'm talking from the top at Joe Lacob and Jerry West down to the assistant coaches, because I feel like history is repeating itself.
Where do we begin? First, the "blown" kicked ball. Because I hire refs for my league all the time and one of our Vegas tournament refs is now an actual NBA official (Tre Maddox), I can tell you that there was no referee in the exact same position as the replay camera, so no human referee, in the areas on the court where they were supposed to be, could have seen the ball actually getting kicked. It was such a quick-reflex play, no referee on this planet would have blown the whistle.

Recap #10: Orlando Magic 117, Golden State Warriors 109 - Time To Update The Hack-A-Shaq Wikipedia Or Add Hack-A-Howard
GameThread (1400+ comments)
Blog Buddy: Orlando Pinstriped Post
Dwight Howard broke Wilt Chamberlain's near-50-year-old record for most free throw attempts in a game yesterday, going 21-for-39 en route to 43 points and 21 rebounds. The game was actually close until the waning moments, a one-possession ballgame throughout the entire fourth quarter until Von Wafer hit a three from the right corner on a rotation ball movement, Hedo Turkoglu's 9th assist, with 36.9 seconds remaining, which doubled the Magic's lead from 112-109 to 115-109.
Lost in the history-making night would be Monta Ellis's ensuing inbound turnover that without the benefit of replay and watching from press row, appeared to be almost directly passed to Hedo. This lead to Dominic McGuire having no choice to foul Hedo, and Hedo draining the last two points. With the deficit at an impossible 7 points and the buzzer approaching, Monta would attempt a tired-looking trey that the Nate Robinson tracked down, and Brandon Rush closed it out with badly missed trey himself.
And so ended with a thud, the night when the term "Hack-A-Howard" would probably earn its own Wikipedia page.
Game Thread #10: Orlando Magic @ Golden State Warriors - Kwame Out, Beastin' Time For Dwight Howard?

With Kwame Brown out for 3 months with a dislocated shoulder, Andris Biedrins (gulp) gets the assignment on Dwight Howard, according to Rusty Simmons.
On Monday, I had the chance to attend Warriors practice and ask Coach Mark Jackson point-blank about Biedrins. See here's the thing. Let's say you're the 5th option, to the point where teammates are screaming your name whenever you grab an offensive rebound (read: they don't trust your offensive abilities so they -- without considering the pyschological ramifications -- try to avoid having you proceed further with the ball in your hands). I've been both the 5th and 1st options on my rec league teams throughout the years, depending. When you're the 5th option like this, it can be like there's no light at the end of the tunnel.
Recap #5: Phoenix Suns 102, Golden State Warriors 91 - Steve Nash Outplays Stephen Curry (Foul Trouble), David Lee's Empty Rebounds?
Monta Ellis returned to Phoenix after attending his grandmother's funeral, but David Lee was out ill. Stephen Curry, who finished with just 10 points, 2 assists, and 2 turnovers in only 23 minutes of play, got into foul trouble trying to guard Steve Nash, who eventually iced the game late with a trey, along with Jared Dudley's trey. Nash finished with 21 points and 9 assists, going 9-for-13 from the field and curiously, Mark Jackson opted for Charles Jenkins off the bench at the point instead of Ish Smith. Monta ended with 18 points on 16 attempts and dished out 11 assists.

Recap #3: Golden State Warriors 92, New York Knicks 78 - Greed Is Good, So Are Brandon Rush And Monta Ellis
Without Stephen Curry, the Warriors built a solid foundation with starting pg Ish Smith early on, followed by Brandon Rush, who was the best player on the court as the Dubs' announcers would proclaim, and finally framed by a Monta Ellis supernova finish with 12 points and 7 assists in the 4th quarter alone.
Afterwards in the post-game press conference, Coach Mark Jackson said he told the team, "Greed is good."
The Beginner's Media Credential Experience II at Bulls-Warriors: Navigating The Oracle, Wilbon The Man, Art Spander, Turkish Reporters, Derrick Rose, And More
I was fortunate to have media credential access to last night's party at the Oracle, the Golden State Warriors 99-91 victory over the Chicago Bulls. Here's my behind-the-scenes recap.
I'm still a rookie at this, so this is another fly-on-the-wall type of write-up. Eventually we'll reach a point where I'm doing some cool interviews left and right, but for now I'm just soaking it all in (and trying not to get lost from locker room to locker room). Baby steps.
This was my second time. My first time was a win -- I guess I'm now a good luck charm and they'll have to keep having me back, haha! -- last year against the Los Angeles Clippers where I described what it was like to have a media credential.

Golden State Of Mind Scouting Reports On New Warriors Dominic McGuire, Ish Smith, and Brandon Rush
Believe it or not, four years ago I posted a Summer League scouting report on new Warriors player Dominic McGuire. The good news? It's still pretty much the same scouting report I'd give today. The bad news? It's pretty much the same scouting report I'd give today.
Randomly, I also studied a lot of Ish Smith's game, both during the college season and while he was competing with Jeremy Lin for a training camp invite at the Portsmouth Invitational two years ago. And last year, as the Miami Heat embarked on their journey, an early season loss to a solid Indiana Pacers team had me eyeing Brandon Rush a little more than usual.
Golden State Warriors TweediaDay Curiosities Wrap-Up (Belated)
This report is absurdly late, but I had some photos from last week's TweediaDay (linksannouncement). I'll start off with the above, which was hinted at by some of the guys in the Warriors' sales department who alluded to a refurbished front office. This is what you see as you enter the hallway leading to the practice facility. Copperplate is here to stay, folks!

RidiculousUpside.com: Bay Area's Joel Abelson qualified to be head coach for Warriors' new D-League team, Dakota Wizards
![]() |
|
| Joel Abelson, Idaho Stampede |
Last Friday, Scott Schroeder of RidiculousUpside offered up four possible candidates, based on Larry Riley's brief explanation of what he might be looking for, to be the Warriors' new head coach of the newly acquired D-League (NBDL) team, the Dakota Wizards. One of them was the Bay Area's own Joel Abelson...
Joel Abelson, associate head coach of the Idaho Stampede, would seem to be an excellent candidate for the position in Dakota. The 28-year-old has coached in the D-League for the past four seasons while spending his summers developing young players, giving him the exact experience the Warriors should be interested in during this coaching search.
Check the article for more details on why Schroeder thinks he's a good candidate, but do you remember Abelson from the Warriors' call-up of Anthony Tolliver?

2011 NBA Finals Preview Game 1 : Dallas Mavericks at Miami Heat :: Head, Heart, Or Karma?
Throughout the leagues and tournaments I've organized, coached in, and played in, I've seen a lot of adults play basketball in my lifetime. This year in the NBA, I observed a lot of the lessons about basketball -- lessons which I learned the hard way through mostly painful losses and a few exhilirating championships -- come to fruition.
And now it's come to this, the 2011 NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat. Deciding this one isn't any easier than it was deciding last year's duel between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers. However, I'm sure you can agree that there is a decidedly different feel to this one.

At Mosswood Park: Hook Mitchell, meet David Lee
Mosswood Park. The genesis of some pretty darn good ballin'. With the success of Jason Kidd leading the Mavs to the Finals, the rumors about Brian Shaw (not) staying with the Lakers, as well as a recent chat with one of my refs -- who happens to be David Doubley of UOP/NCAA tourney fame -- about today's organized ball vs yesteryear's pickup playground ball (specifically at Mosswood, no less), I found this blogpost by Daniel Turman apropos.
The Logo Coming To The Bay? Kawakami: Jerry West Hired To Advise Golden State Warriors
This is big. So big, forget the Fanshot, man. This deserves a full-on blogpost. Just about an hour and a half ago, Tim Kawakami tweeted that the Warriors had retained the services of one Jerry West.
There's only one Logo that's better than our logo, and he's coming to the Bay.
Raise your hand if you have a man-crush on Joe Lacob now. First Bob Myers, now this. Bravo. Finally! I mean, we actually have a legit shot at Dwight Howard now, right?
Here's the full report from Kawakami: http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2011/05/19/jerry-west-set-to-join-warriors-front-office-in-a-non-decision-making-role-according-to-multiple-nba-sources/

Recap #73: Toronto Raptors 100 @ Golden State Warriors 138 - Make It Rain, the Keith Smart way
Boxscore | Game Thread | Gameday Links
RaptorsHQ: Bad Meets Worse: Raptors Laughable in Loss
84 points in the first half! The absence of the Toronto's Amir Johnson (and Reggie Evans) left them with a shaky interior and Monta Ellis and Steph Curry took full advantage knowing the Raptors guards could not stay in front, as the Warriors annihilated the Raptors.
But in doing so, we were again left wondering about the curious case of Coach Keith Smart. More on this after the jump...
Recap #63: Golden State Warriors 95, Cleveland Cavaliers 85 - The big Baron Davis debate, Antawn Jamison and Anthony Parker were 3 minutes from becoming Warriors

FearTheSword: Warriors utilize three-ball to down the Cavs
So we had exactly one beatwriter from the Bay covering this game: Marcus Thompson aka @gswscribe on Twitter. And we had no GSoM writers available, but luckily, we had Jodie Valade of the Cleveland Plain Dealer covering this via @PDCavsInsider. After the jump, check out the tweets for a little summary of the game.
However, I thought the bigger, more interesting news was the little Twitter banter between Thompson and Matt Steinmetz (@MSteinmetzCSN). Steinmetz wrote this article about the possibility of the Warriors instead of the Cavaliers acquiring Baron Davis, which Thompson followed up saying that doing so would've prohibitively complicated matters for Stephen Curry.
But then came the startling news from writer Sam Amick, who had attended Geekapalooza (aka Sloan MIT Sports Statistics Conference) last week and actually interviewed Warriors owner Joe Lacob about the NBA trade deadline. Putting two and two together, Amick deduced that it was Antawn Jamison and Anthony Parker that Lacob came within three minutes of the deadline of acquiring.
Whew! Hit the jump for the details...
Miami Heat's losses merely reflect inexperience, but Dwyane Wade and LeBron James need to co-strategize
There's been an extreme, almost doomsday negativity aimed at the Miami Heat lately about their losses against the elite teams of the NBA, in particular their squandering of a 24-point lead to the Orlando Magic and their 30-point loss to the San Antonio Spurs. If people aren't pointing and laughing at them, people are certainly casting condescending frowns and wagging that disapproving finger. Even the Heat themselves appear to be greatly dismayed and flustered in the post-game interviews.
But while the rest of the world clamors on, I look back at my experience watching hundreds and hundreds of amateur, competitive, and below-the-rim adult rec league games in my Dream League -- we're almost in our tenth year and we run three seasons per year, ten divisions per season, perhaps three or four ultra-competitive divisions with legacy teams returning each season, so that's like 40 seasons not including the ones I played in other leagues prior -- and I've gotta say, I've seen this all before.

Recap #61: Golden State Warriors 103, Boston Celtics 107 - Still too small; Pendulum swings back from Stephen Curry to Monta Ellis
I'll slice and dice this one in different ways, but here's the quick-and-dirty version, by quarter:
- David Lee 14 pts. Von Wafer? Alright, whatever. Warriors down by 5.
- Ray Allen 12 pts in quarter. Rajon Rondo 9 assists. Celtics up 11. Yawn.
- Monta Ellis 16 pts. Celtics mess around and... well, they mess around. Warriors down 7.
- What the hell, this is a close game? Wait, can the Warriors grab a loose ball? No. Game over.

Game Thread #61: Golden State Warriors at Boston Celtics - Debut of Al Thornton
Golden State Warriors (27-33) at Boston Celtics (44-15)
Tipoff: 4:30PM PST
TV: CSN Bay Area | Radio: KNBR 1050
Blog Buddy: CelticsBlog
The Warriors are in Boston tonight and, per my research on Twitter, it is expected that Al Thornton will make his debut for the Warriors. Meanwhile, the Celtics are hurting. Big Baby Glen Davis has a sore patella tendon, Delonte West a sprained ankle, and Shaquille O`Neal is still out with a sore right leg.
Add to that the recent Celtics roster moves of adding Nenad Krstic, Jeff Green, and the newly acquired Sasha Pavlovic and the fact that the Warriors are coming off a big win where they outrebounded the Wizards, and...
Guess what? The Warriors might actually have a really good chance to win this one! But first, my tirade on the Kendrick Perkins deal (after the jump)...
Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob reveals strategy: Build around Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis
Originally posted Feb 25, 2011 7:36 PM PST
Since I haven't found any other articles from today's Warriors season ticket-holder conference call with Joe Lacob, here's my report. First off, I called in a few minutes late after the 1:00pm start time and I had to hang up at 1:45pm to go to a meeting (you know, some of us have to work!), so the following is as much as I can remember, and from the meat of the call.
Here are the main points...
Key Take-away #1: The Warriors will be keeping Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry, and will be building the franchise around them.
Key Take-away #2: Lacob has identified nine bigs/centers that the Warriors could go after this summer, to help bring a presence in the post.
Key Take-away #3: Lacob's strategy to make the Warriors attractive enough to sign a marquee free agent, is to win as many games as possible now.
After the jump, compare that with my strategy and take a look at the other bullet points from the conference call...
