Broad Street Hockey Flyers talking trade for Stamkos

Last night a friend of mine (who used to produce some WIP radio shows, so he has the connections) told me that the Flyers are still very much interested in acquiring Stamkos, and he mentioned 2 different packages:

JVR, Carle, Schenn, and Courturier     OR       Giroux and Bob

Which deal would you prefer? Is my buddy nuts or do you think the Flyers would still make some more moves?

Georgetown is the only team in the history of the NCAA tourney to lose to a play-in team.

At least he didn't get entirely snubbed, but how can you justify leaving Slick Rick off the 1st team when you all voted him as the Def POY (also lead the BE in FG%)?!

Congrats, Rick. Show 'em something in the tourney so they know what's up.

Broad Street Hockey Is it just me or did Montreal get away with some dirty...?

I don't want to come across like the refs had much to do with the result of Game 3, but I have to wonder why the whistles were silent through 2 major instances of goonery by the Habs.

Near the end of the 1st, Carcillo was doing his best to get under Scott Gomez's skin, even pulling on his jersey on his way back over to the bench. That's when Gomez flipped out and swung his stick at Carcillo's FACE. He didn't connect, pulling back at the last moment, but swinging your stick at another player's face is pretty much a no-go, right? I mean, if Carcillo faked like he was throwing a punch at Gomez but didn't hit him, he surely would have gotten a penalty, if not a game misconduct, right? VS even showed a close-up of it as it happened, yet no penalty on Gomez.

Then, Giroux got an elbow to the face that cut his mouth and chipped his teeth. He threw down his gloves and skated off the ice, only to return a few shifts later, bloodier and more British (bad teeth) than ever before. He even got mixed up immediately, going after the Habs player who gave him the high elbow (I forget who it was, Lapierre maybe?), where the Canadian player was just smiling and chirping back at him, knowing he caught Giroux with a good one up high.

Between those 2 incidents, the fan-forced penalty on Coburn and the lack of a high-sticking call on JVR back in Game 2, I am starting to wonder which of the teams is really the "dirtier" team and also wondering how the rest of you fans are viewing those plays from Game 3. I just find it hard to believe that if the teams were reversed in those 2 instances, we would have had a penalty or 2 thrown at us, and the national media would be all over any Flyers swinging their stick at an opposing player's face, hit or no hit.

Bleeding Green Nation 1 Extra SRO ticket for Broncos/Eagles

A buddy couldn't go with me, so I have an extra standing room ticket for Dawk's homecoming. It is an actual ticket, not an eTicket, so I'll have to get it in your hands either at the game or ahead of time. The sooner I sell the ticket, the cheaper it will be to move it, so let's hurry!

I'm just a normal 27 year old Eagles fan looking to unload a ticket to another fan interested in attending the game. I don't want a scalper to make money off this, and while I am not looking to make a killing, you should realize these tickets are selling for around $140 on Stubhub (plus their shipping/service fees). So I'm looking for something around that figure. A $75 offer won't cut it.

If anyone is interested, email me at jmfreese@gmail.com and we can talk about a price/how to get you the ticket. I live in Bucks County, but should be able to work something out if we need to meet up.

says Philly.com. Maybe a goalie. Maybe a scorer.

Some interesting talk about gettin offered Tampa Bay's Mike Smith for Giroux or van Riemsdyk (no way), or perhaps Anaheim's right winger Bobby Ryan and a No. 1 pick for Carter.

Thoughts? Do the Flyers need to make a move? At all costs? I don't want to see us unload some key pieces for a chance at the playoffs this year.

At the same time, maybe that's all the team needs to throw it back into the gear they were in to start the season. Do more drastic moves need to be made to be competitive?

Bleeding Green Nation Kyle Eckel and Lauren Harris on WMMR

Since there's not much happening for the Birds, I guess Kyle Eckel took it as a chance to go get drunk with a really, REALLY good-looking blonde on Preston and Steve's annual Drunk Day show last week. Every year members of the show (Kyle is an intern on the show) get drunk on the last working day before the 4th of July as a public service to show America what happens when you drink to excess.

They play some drinking games, answer questions and Lauren Harris (Miss FHM) takes off her top and goes for some body paint at the end of the video. Relatively SFW, no nudity (just boobs with body paint) and since it was on the radio, nothing terrible language wise.

See how much Kyle drank and what his final BAC was at the end of the show. He was being pretty funny throughout the day and he showed that was a good teammate when he declined to name which player on the Eagle's roster had the biggest penis.

Not sure he's gonna make the team or not, but a guy who can drink/shoot like that is welcome on my beer pong team any day.

Broad Street Hockey Hatcher retires; stays on as coach

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=4260478

PHILADELPHIA -- Flyers defenseman Derian Hatcher retired Monday, two weeks after knee replacement surgery in effect ended his 16-year career. The 37-year-old former Flyers captain joined the coaching staff as player development coach.

"It sounded like the perfect way to stay in the game and see if I like it," Hatcher said. "I will be watching the younger players and making sure everything runs smoothly for them. I will be involved with running the rookie camp this summer."

On the coaching staff, Hatcher replaces former Flyer Eric Desjardins, who resigned to pursue business interests.

Hatcher underwent a right knee replacement June 1 and said afterward he did not expect to play again. He missed all of last season and played only 44 games for the Flyers in 2007-08.

Hatcher finished his career with 80 goals and 331 points in 1,045 games for the Minnesota North Stars, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings and the Flyers. He also scored 33 points for 133 career NHL playoff games.

He signed with the Flyers as a free agent in 2005. He won a Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999 and is the only American-born player to captain a team to a championship.

Bleeding Green Nation Ingram Impresses Coaches With Blocking

A little nugget from Spuds over at PE.com:

Little anecdote for you that I've learned: The Eagles go to work out Cornelius Ingram before the draft and they don't take a football. They want to go work him out and see how he does in blocking drills. He impresses them, obviously, and they use a fifth-round pick on Ingram in April. Then he goes to the post-draft camp and wows the coaches with the improvement he makes in the same blocking drills. Clearly, Ingram had been working on his blocking. "I know how important that part of the game is," said Ingram. "I'm working all the time on my blocking, on everything." Very impressive.

Good to see him understanding how to maximize his physical potential. I'd love to see him in 2 TE sets and eventually as our stud TE (duh, who wouldn't love that?).

I never understood why some TE's just couldn't block. If you're athletic enough to run a route and make a catch, you can work on your footwork and technique to learn to block effectively. If you can't catch, I get that, but a TE not being able to block is like a QB who can only hand the ball off. Opponents know what to expect every time and can make the right adjustment for the situation.

Broad Street Hockey Trade Rumor: Briere for Carey Price

ESPN Insider, ah thank you...

After saluting the sarcastic fans of the Molson Center in the finale of a four-game playoff sweep at the hands of the rival Boston Bruins, is the curtain about to fall on Carey Price's career in Montreal?

The Philadelphia Flyers are dangling Daniel Briere to the Montreal Canadiens with the hope of landing young netminder, according to the Camden Courier-Post.

The rumored trade would also include a prospect (James Van Riemsdyk? Luca Sbisa?) on the Flyers' side and would bring the negotiating rights to unrestricted free agent D Mike Komisarek. Philadelphia previously used a similar style trade to bring in Kimmo Timonen and Scottie Upshall from Nashville. Philly then inked Timmonen before he reached free agency on July 1.

The inclusion of Briere would require him to waive his no-trade clause, prompting speculation that Joffrey Lupul may replace Briere in the deal. Either way it would solve the Flyers' hole in goal ... and spring Price from the pressure cooker that is the Montreal crease.

---------

Whadda say? Briere or Lups (I'd rather trade Danny) for Price straight up is a no-brainer, IMO, but adding Sbisa or Riemer to sign Komisarek? Not sure how I feel.

I like both our prospects. We need defensemen, but I liked what I saw from Sbisa. Though we have great forwards, VR could be even better.

Thoughts?
