Bitter Philly fans sound off about local teams and national news....and sometimes hot girls.

rss icon RSSUser Blog

says Philly.com. Maybe a goalie. Maybe a scorer.

Some interesting talk about gettin offered Tampa Bay's Mike Smith for Giroux or van Riemsdyk (no way), or perhaps Anaheim's right winger Bobby Ryan and a No. 1 pick for Carter.

Thoughts? Do the Flyers need to make a move? At all costs? I don't want to see us unload some key pieces for a chance at the playoffs this year.

At the same time, maybe that's all the team needs to throw it back into the gear they were in to start the season. Do more drastic moves need to be made to be competitive?

Kyle Eckel and Lauren Harris on WMMR

Since there's not much happening for the Birds, I guess Kyle Eckel took it as a chance to go get drunk with a really, REALLY good-looking blonde on Preston and Steve's annual Drunk Day show last week. Every year members of the show (Kyle is an intern on the show) get drunk on the last working day before the 4th of July as a public service to show America what happens when you drink to excess.

They play some drinking games, answer questions and Lauren Harris (Miss FHM) takes off her top and goes for some body paint at the end of the video. Relatively SFW, no nudity (just boobs with body paint) and since it was on the radio, nothing terrible language wise.

See how much Kyle drank and what his final BAC was at the end of the show. He was being pretty funny throughout the day and he showed that was a good teammate when he declined to name which player on the Eagle's roster had the biggest penis.

Not sure he's gonna make the team or not, but a guy who can drink/shoot like that is welcome on my beer pong team any day.

if that doesn't work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOmMPE31TJA or go download the complete show at www.prestonandsteve.libsyn.com

Hatcher retires; stays on as coach

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=4260478

PHILADELPHIA -- Flyers defenseman Derian Hatcher retired Monday, two weeks after knee replacement surgery in effect ended his 16-year career. The 37-year-old former Flyers captain joined the coaching staff as player development coach.

"It sounded like the perfect way to stay in the game and see if I like it," Hatcher said. "I will be watching the younger players and making sure everything runs smoothly for them. I will be involved with running the rookie camp this summer."

On the coaching staff, Hatcher replaces former Flyer Eric Desjardins, who resigned to pursue business interests.

Hatcher underwent a right knee replacement June 1 and said afterward he did not expect to play again. He missed all of last season and played only 44 games for the Flyers in 2007-08.

Hatcher finished his career with 80 goals and 331 points in 1,045 games for the Minnesota North Stars, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings and the Flyers. He also scored 33 points for 133 career NHL playoff games.

He signed with the Flyers as a free agent in 2005. He won a Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999 and is the only American-born player to captain a team to a championship.

"The Philadelphia Phillies' Raul Ibanez leads NL outfielders with 1,415,493 votes, followed by the Milwaukee Brewers' Ryan Braun (1,269,033), the New York Mets' Carlos Beltran (1,092,516) and the Chicago Cubs' Alfonso Soriano (1,078,904). Ramirez is fifth with 838,353 in results released Monday."

nice work, philly phaithful. raul is where he deserves to be. hard to believe this will be his first all-star game, but he certainly has earned it.

Ingram Impresses Coaches With Blocking

A little nugget from Spuds over at PE.com:

Little anecdote for you that I've learned: The Eagles go to work out Cornelius Ingram before the draft and they don't take a football. They want to go work him out and see how he does in blocking drills. He impresses them, obviously, and they use a fifth-round pick on Ingram in April. Then he goes to the post-draft camp and wows the coaches with the improvement he makes in the same blocking drills. Clearly, Ingram had been working on his blocking. "I know how important that part of the game is," said Ingram. "I'm working all the time on my blocking, on everything." Very impressive.

Good to see him understanding how to maximize his physical potential. I'd love to see him in 2 TE sets and eventually as our stud TE (duh, who wouldn't love that?).

I never understood why some TE's just couldn't block. If you're athletic enough to run a route and make a catch, you can work on your footwork and technique to learn to block effectively. If you can't catch, I get that, but a TE not being able to block is like a QB who can only hand the ball off. Opponents know what to expect every time and can make the right adjustment for the situation.

Trade Rumor: Briere for Carey Price

ESPN Insider, ah thank you...

After saluting the sarcastic fans of the Molson Center in the finale of a four-game playoff sweep at the hands of the rival Boston Bruins, is the curtain about to fall on Carey Price's career in Montreal?

The Philadelphia Flyers are dangling Daniel Briere to the Montreal Canadiens with the hope of landing young netminder, according to the Camden Courier-Post.

The rumored trade would also include a prospect (James Van Riemsdyk? Luca Sbisa?) on the Flyers' side and would bring the negotiating rights to unrestricted free agent D Mike Komisarek. Philadelphia previously used a similar style trade to bring in Kimmo Timonen and Scottie Upshall from Nashville. Philly then inked Timmonen before he reached free agency on July 1.

The inclusion of Briere would require him to waive his no-trade clause, prompting speculation that Joffrey Lupul may replace Briere in the deal. Either way it would solve the Flyers' hole in goal ... and spring Price from the pressure cooker that is the Montreal crease.

---------

Whadda say? Briere or Lups (I'd rather trade Danny) for Price straight up is a no-brainer, IMO, but adding Sbisa or Riemer to sign Komisarek? Not sure how I feel.

I like both our prospects. We need defensemen, but I liked what I saw from Sbisa. Though we have great forwards, VR could be even better.

Thoughts?
