I was going to write something to this effect, but ESPN did it before me. Basically, our WRs are missing in our offense. This has been a problem for the last few years. It's frustrating that we seem incapable of involving our WRs in the offense.

Make up any excuse, but its been a problem for some time....and still has not been fixed. And it's driving me nuts...

Buffalo Rumblings Peters by the numbers

So I've done the math for the past 2 years with and without Jason Peters.  And the results make me, well, not exactly disappointed to be losing him.  Besides the fact that he never plays the last game of the year, here's how I did the numbers (based on starts).

In 2007, I counted him as missing only the last game of the year.  In 2008, I had him missing the first 2 games and the last game of the year.  (If I'm wrong - please let me know, I will adjust the numbers, even though he kinda "played" the 2nd game of 2008 if I remember correctly).

After averaging out the numbers, here's the deal:

With Peters per game:  Average Offensive total yards: 290.9, Passing: 178.0, Running: 112.9, Sacks: 2.1.

Without Peters: Average Offensive total yards: 292.5, Passing: 172.5, Rushing: 120.0, Sacks: 1.5.

Obviously, this is a small sample size.  It also doesn't take into account JP Loss-man vs. Trent, as well as what we were playing for in the final game of the year and who we played in these games.  BUT, I'm not exactly crying over the loss - I'm a numbers guy.....and the difference is minimal at best.

I will take a rookie LT or Walker + a new RT, with the addition of (hopefully) a playmaker with the extra first round pick.  Let me know what you think guys!  And I'm still tremendously hopeful for this year....even though that's the M.O. of being a Bills fan!

I still like the idea of him in our lineup a LOT.

From ESPN's rumors:

Scheffler next?
Tony Scheffler | Broncos | Interested: Lions? Bills?
Earlier this week, when asked about his thoughts on Jay Cutler officially being on the trading block, Denver Broncos tight end Tony Scheffler told the Denver Post, "I'm not happy about it." When asked to respond yesterday to the news that one of his best friends on the team had been traded to the Chicago Bears, Scheffler told the Post, "Good for Jay. We'll see how it turns out."
Strangely enough, Scheffler may get a closer look at "how it turns out" than he realizes. Among the teams rumored to be on the hunt for a pass-catching tight end this offseason are the Buffalo Bills. While it would be over a 500-mile journey from Orchard Park, NY to Chicago, he'd be closer than if he stayed in Denver. A report by Pro Football Weekly from last week indicated that the Broncos were entertaining offers for Scheffler and although he wasn't officially on the trading block, he was a player that another team could acquire if the price was right.

The Bills are amongst the teams that hosted Oklahoma State's Brandon Pettigrew for a visit earlier this month, a player who is expected to land somewhere in the first round of the draft. But the Bills have arguably a greater need for a pass-rusher, and it might make more sense to try to swing a trade for Scheffler and take a defensive end like Aaron Maybin or Everette Brown at No. 11.

A trade partner that would put Scheffler even closer to Cutler is the Detroit Lions, as a trip from Detroit to Chicago would be under 300 miles. Both the Lions and Broncos are draft pick rich right now in the first round, but the Lions have a need at tight end (amongst many other positions) and according to the reports, Scheffler does not fit in to Broncos coach Josh McDaniels' offensive scheme. The Lions would likely not move one of their first-round picks in exchange for just Scheffler, but their second- or third-round pick could be available. Swapping between some of the mid first-round picks that the teams possess is also a possibility to grease the wheels of a Scheffler shuffle.

Any team looking for a cheaper but less impressive option at tight end will also be kicking George Wrighster's tires in the coming weeks. According to the Florida Times-Union, the Jacksonville Jaguars will be releasing Wrighster today, a fact that seems to please Wrighster, who has written on his blog that "the past was bright, but the future will be incandescent!"
