Red Cup Rebellion Sad news for Ken Lucas

Just wanted to let the Rebel Faithful know if they haven't heard the news already: former Rebel and current Seattle Seahawk cornerback Ken Lucas' father has passed away.

Lucas is apparently  back home in Mississippi for his father's funeral but has indicated that he plans on playing Sunday when the Seahawks host the Arizona Cardinals at Qwest Field

Once a Rebel, Always a Rebel.

Our prayers and condolences go to Ken & his family.

Red Cup Rebellion The Aftermath

Ok, so let’s do a little interactive exercise:

Will those of you that really, truly believed that Ole Miss would go undefeated please raise your hands?

Really?  Ok, those of you with your hands up thank you for reading this all the way in California.  Apparently that "prescription" is working really well for you.

Going undefeated in the SEC is a daunting goal for even the most heavily future-NFL-talent laced team.  It rarely happens.  EVER.  Much less when all the college football world’s eyes are focused intently on your every move.

Plus there is the minor fact that we lost a QB eating, man beast of a defensive lineman (who was arguably THE catalyst of our team last year), a walking wall of a LT, and one of the most underrated college deep threat WRs all to the NFL.

We are not last year’s team.  We all knew that.  We just hoped we could be as good.

Will those of you that really believed that Bradley Sowell was not going to be a glaring weakness in the offensive line please raise your hands?

We all know your opinion Mr. & Mrs. Sowell, please lower your hands.

Guys we all knew that losing Oher was going to be a problem.  We all knew that Sowell was going to struggle when it came time to man-up to the talent of SEC defensive lines.  We were all hoping that Massie could just come in and learn on the job as Oher’s replacement while Sowell gave serviceable backup and rotation depth.  It just isn’t working out as quickly or as serviceable as we need it to be.

One last question…no hand raising involved here…when was the last time that Ole Miss ever beat everyone they were supposed to defeat and lost to only those teams to whom they were supposed to lose?

 Can’t recall?  I can’t either.

The truth of the matter is that we all knew this team…as much as we love them and loved to dream of glory…was way over hyped.  They are extremely talented.  Probably the most talented squad that I’ve seen the Rebels field.  But they have weaknesses, and that’s why most of us Rebel Faithful saw this game and had a major uneasy feeling in our stomachs.

I hate we lost.  I absolutely hate the way we lost.  But maybe now they can get their heads on straight and live up to the potential that everybody sees in them without focusing on the unrealistic expectations.

The season has only begun. A bowl game, a ten win season, the SEC championship game.  These goals are all still attainable.

HOTTY TODDY!

Red Cup Rebellion Mississippi Best on ESPN

Ok members of Rebel Nation / Red Cuppers, in case you haven't heard:

ESPN is currently running several polls over at it's SportsNation site.  Of the many polls that allow you to let your click be heard is a 50 state tour asking you to vote for the "Greatest" of the state of Mississippi.  Questions include: "Which team was the best in state history?", "Who was the greatest player in state history", and "Who was the best coach in state history?".

It is this last question that I wish to call to your attention.  Currently JACKIE SHERRILL...yes that bull castrating, dirty coaching, ousted leader of the Stark-Vegas faithful...leads in this poll raking in 45% of the vote to Coach Vaught's 37%!

A 75-75-2 record vs 190-61-12.

Rant, Discuss, Cuss, Drink.....talk amongst yourselves.
