Condolences to Udonis Haslem and his family after his mother lost her battle with cancer.

Haslem is an amazing guy and as his mother inspired his values and strength, it goes to show that she must have been an even more amazing woman.

Peace and blessings UD.

Peninsula is Mightier HEAT History - For the new fans...

There is no doubt that the free agent acquisitions of this year by Pat Riley will expand the Miami Heat's fanbase.

As such, as a longtime Heat fan, I thought it may be beneficial to give the newer members of the Heat family a bit of background - A "Miami Heat 101" if you like.

Here I'll attempt to give a break down the Heat's successes, failures, players and rivalries so that we can all know what it means to put on the Heat jersey...

Peninsula is Mightier Thanks to Pat Riley

Just wanted to make sure that we take a moment amongst the craziness to thank Pat Riley.

Although DWade clearly influenced Bosh and Bron - It took Pat Riley's courage to gut the roster in preparation for this offseason.  As much as a week ago Heat fans were wondering if this would backfire when Wade had two meetings with the Bulls, Riley stood firm. He resolutely believed his plan was still intact and he did it.

For two years the NBA's press has been hyping this summer's free agents - in every report they mentioned Lebron, Bosh and Wade. Only one GM had the balls to believe he could get all three.

Thanks Riley - you weren't kidding about creating a dynasty. The framework is in place

Pat Riley - GM of the Year 2010/11 - take it to the bank.

Peninsula is Mightier Cavs Owner's open letter rips Lebron

Open letter from Cleveland Cavs owner Dan Gilbert posted.

http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/news/gilbert_letter_100708.html

Seems he is ripping into our very own Lebron James.... jealous much.

If Dan Gilbert is that upset, maybe he should not have catered to Lebron's ego all these years.

I can understand the frustration but proclaiming Cleveland will win a championship before Lebron with Miami?

Has Cleveland sports history taught him nothing?

I feel for Cleveland fans but regardless Lebron is one of us now - sour grapes Dan Gilbert?

Peninsula is Mightier Poll: Lebrons ego and "The Decision"

Given the recent events of the non-Lebron free agents, what do you think this means for Lebron's decision.

Personally I hope he stays in Cleveland and earns his legacy without bringing his circus and ego to the Heat.

But where will his ego land him?

Partnering with Wade and Bosh, Playing with D-Rose and Boozer, Teaming with Amare in NY, Creating his empire in Jersey or cementing his legacy by staying in Cleveland?

ESPN reporting Bosh and Wade have decided to join forces in Miami, also reported by Chris Broussard who has been pretty accurate during this free agency period.

Is it time to pop the champagne corks yet Miami???

I hope so - Bosh in Miami is huge - Wade staying in Miami means we can breathe a sigh of relief and get back to just feeling happy to have #3 in the house...

Would also mean that the real circus in regards to the remaining 100+ free agents would start in earnest...

As most Heat fans would agree, we really need to upgrade our PG depth. Rumours are circulating that the Nuggets are looking to trade 1st year PG Ty Lawson for a top10 draft pick...
I would also hope that Riley is maybe thinking of ways to nab Darren Collison from the Hornets as that would be amazing for the Heat, better than him being on the bench behind Chris Paul.
Is there a way you think the Heat could work a deal for either of these good young PG's (obviously would require another team)?
Do you think Ty Lawson or Darren Collison would be a good addition?

"Taking a break from touring the tent-city hospitals set up along the perimeter of the Haitian capital’s airport, Mourning said so much more needs to be done to help the region. That’s why Mourning, with Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, retired great Tim Hardaway and Memphis star Rudy Gay(notes) were part of a trip to Haiti on Saturday."

Kudos to Alonzo for his continued humanitarian efforts.
Interesting that Rudy Gay is along for the ride with the Heat contingent and Coach Spo.... do you think there might be some hint/talk of Gay's free agency on this trip... I hope so - he would be a great addition at the 3 (Gay or Joe Johnson at the 3 would be amazing for the Heat)

Either way it's great to see the charitable nature of the Heat franchise and to see Gay's willingness to be involved as well.
Keep up the good work guys.

The Miami Heat launched WeWantWade.com today -- an all out campaign to convince soon-to-be free agent Dwyane to stay with the team. The site gives fans absurd tips on sucking up to the Heat superstar ("buy him dessert").

Dwyane says, "I love it! Especially as I am dealing with several issues in my life, it's great to know that people care about me."

Show the love Heat fans...

Peninsula is Mightier Will Amare be an option?

Considering the postseason success of the Phoenix Suns - do you think Amar'e Stoudamire will end up being a free agent?  It may well be that he ends up signing with Phoenix again. It seems more likely to me that the options for the Heat may only be Bosh or Boozer at the PF/C position as a max contract type player.

Joe Johnson has certainly hurt his cred with his play in the playoffs so far as well.

In all likelihood - assuming Lebron, Wade, Nowitzki and Amar'e stay put - this summer's free agents whilst still great, aren't as amazing as has been forecast...
