Baltimore Beat Down Top Ten Reasons to Drink the Purple Koolaid for Ravens Fans in 2010

We know there are more then 10 reasons and you also may have put them in a different order.  This is what I came up with and I put them in the order I thought were most important.  So here we go starting with number 10.

 # 10   The New Coaches -   The Ravens brought in some new coaches that will help the team.  QB's coach Jim Zorn was the Head Coach of the Washington Redskins last year.  He is an ex-QB with 24 yrs. in the league and 13 yrs. as a coach.  Zorn tutored Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck, who set several franchise marks and earned 3 Pro Bowl nods under Zorn's direction.  Zorn was also instrumental in the development of rookie QB Charlie Batch, whose 88.3 passer rating in 1998 ranks 4th-highest in NFL history for rookies.  LB's coach Dean Pees was the defensive coodinator for the New England Patriots from 2006-2009 and LB's coach 2004-2005.  Pees' 2008 unit ranked 2nd in the NFL allowing only 309.9 yds. per game.  In 2007 the Patriots defense contributed to the first 16-0 regular season in NFL history.  In 2006 Pees' defense set a franchise record for points allowed per game averaging 14.8.  He also has a Maryland connection as Navy's secondary coach from 1987-1989 and was head coach John Harbaugh's defensive coordinator during his 1983 season at Miami of Ohio, where Harbaugh played defensive back.  Outside LB's coach Ted Monachino has 4 yrs. experience with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2006-2009.  In 2001-2005 Ted was with the Arizona State Sun Devils and LB Terrell Suggs during his All-American collegiate career.  "It brings back old memories," Suggs said.  "Not to say our last coach wasn't good, I think I relate better to coach Monachino, so I think it's definately a step up having him around."

Baltimore Beat Down Thank You Denver!

When I say thank you Denver -  I mean thank you for firing Mike Shannahan.  If Josh McDaniels isn't the Head Coach of the Broncos they don't make the swap with the Ravens.  The Ravens get  #'s  43, 70 &114 overall,   so Josh and the Broncos can move up to #25 overall...  WOW!...    for what?  Tim Tebow?  Well than, let me thank you also Tim.  The Ravens get Sergio Kindle,  Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta.  One of the great sportwriters of our era 'Woody Paige" of the Denver Post  (when I say great -what I really mean is ridiculous and laughable)  writes in his column titled  "Tebow ready to prove his worth,"    says " TimTebow is the chosen one.   Tim Tebow was chosen by the Broncos.  He is one outstanding choice."  An outstanding choice?   Well then WOODY.   Why would the Broncos with all the needs at a range of areas, draft in the 1st. rd. a 2-4 year project?

It was reported previously from Rexx   that Ozzie & co. stated " the man the Ravens were targeting was available to them at #25."  The Ravens made the swap anyway. Great move guys!  I think that guy was Jared Odrick (DE Penn St).  So if I am right,  the Ravens basically traded  -Jared Odrick for... Sergio Kindle, Ed Dickson, and Dennis Pitta.  That may be the best trade the Ravens have ever pulled off!

SI grade system rates:

2.45-2.74   future starter           2.75-3.09   1st-yr contributor            3.10-3.99   quality prospect     4-5 franchiser

Kindle  3.06            Dickson  2.74               Pitta  2.66     -        Tebow  2.63                                Odrick  3.07

The rest:

Cody  2.93            Reed  2.47             Jones  2.62

Baltimore Beat Down Brandon Marshall man of character?

This team has "men of character" men you can trust with each other going on to the battlefield. We have all heard John Harbaugh say it on the NFL Network.  That is what the Ravens are trying to do right now and they do have men of character on this team, that is the path this team needs to take for the future.  The best days for this team are ahead of us in the future (and I mean near future).  Does this team need to bring in a kid that beats the crap out of his girlfriend repeatedly? Heres' a kid in the NFL with serious upside potential- I mean he can play- but he is just that , a kid that has not matured into manhood yet.  Yes, he will mature but his off the field behavior is a serious concern for the direction this team heading. Look , this receiving corps is going to be good (at least above avg.) this year with or without Marshall, so the front office better have a long hard conversation with him about how to act if they bring him in. Don't forget about the time he was pulling some prop out of pants after catching a TD (ocho style) but was stopped by Brandon Stokley because it would have been a 15 yard penalty. Oh, and if the front office does have that talk with Marshall lets hope they bring Ray Lewis in the room.
