Mock Draft (Round 1-2)
Here's my mock draft going into Turkey day. Rounds 1-3 with explanations for round 1. I use Walterfootball for the ranking of the prospects. If you another place that ranks prospects, let me know.
Round 1
1. Carolina- Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
- Clausen and Moore are both terrible. It's time to take a new QB and start over. What's going to solidify this? The fact John Fox will be on his way out and whoever the new head coach will be will want his guy.
2. Cincinnati- Marcel Dareus, DT, Alabama
- Dozens of players that can be ideal here, I went BPA. I believe with Palmer's stats: He will stay. Whoever their new coach will be, he will blame the defense and Dareus could be a blessing in disguise for them.
3. Detroit- Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
- Peterson would provide a potential shutdown CB with Alphonso Smith. Peterson could be a godsend for the Lions who oddly have a below average pass defense. Don't count out Richard Quinn here.
4. Buffalo- Cam Newton, QB, Auburn
Newton over Locker? I believe Buffalo won't go with the West coast QB. Newton is not the passer he should be at this point but I believe he can develop that and become a better passer and his scrambling ability could help with the lack of the Bills offensive line.
5. Arizona- Jake Locker, QB, Washington
Jake Locker would be the ideal pick here because he's a potential superstar for a team that has Derek Anderson and Max Hall running around behind center. Locker has had a tough season but I think with a weapon like Larry Fitzgerald, I see him having solid success.
6. San Francisco- Prince Amukamura, CB, Nebraska
The 49ers have no CB's on the roster who should be kept. Amukamura could be the next great CB in the NFL and isn't too far behind Peterson as a prospect.
7. Cleveland- A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
Colt McCoy has all the talent but need some weapons around him. I thought Brian Robiskie would be a solid WR but I was wrong. A.J. Green is probably the best WR in the SEC and should be a instant upgrade PLUS allow Muhammed Massoqui to get open and get passes.
8. Dallas- Nick Farley, DE, Auburn
Where does Dallas go here? I say DL. Nick Farley has been moving up the draft boards and has shown the ability to get to the QB. Marcus Spears has 1 year left on his contract and could be replaced.
9. Denver- Adrien Clayborn, DE, Iowa
Any help upon the DL the Broncos can get, they have to take it. Clayborn is a stud who should go higher but won't because of character issues.
10. Minnesota- Ryan Mallet, QB, Arkansas
New Regime, New QB. I like Mallet, don't love him. Minnesota would be a great fit for Mallet because they have a above average OL and can keep him upright. His arm is amazing.
11. St. Louis- Julio Jones, WR, Alabama
The Rams need a WR to help Sam Bradford. I believe Julio Jones is a stud and can bring Bradford to the next level. I would compare Jones to make Aquain Boldin. HOWEVER, don't count out the Rams drafting defense here AND in round 2 thinking Bradford can get it done with Mark Clayton and Donnie Avery ( the 2 WR who are hurt for the Rams)
12. Houston- Brandon Harris, CB, Miami
Houston is 31st in Pass Defense. I saw Kareem Jackson being KILLED by Tutu on SD. I like Jackson, but he's more of a #2 CB. Harris has high upside and could be a potential #1 CB.
13. San Diego- Allen Bailey, DE, Miami
San Diego needs help on the frontline to help Luis Castillo. Bailey's stock has been stagnant to say the least. I still prefer him as a 3-4 DE over a 4-3 DT
14. New England - from Oakland- Richard Quinn, OLB, North Carolina
The Pats never take offensive players high. Even last season, the Pats didn't take a WR in round 1, they waited and took Taylor Price. I have the Pats loading up the offensive skill positions in rounds 2-4 with the defense in the 1st round. Quinn has issues in the past but so did Brandon Merriweather and Brandon Tate
If he's talented enough, Belichick will look at him and just might take him.
15. Tennessee-Travis Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma
The best 4-3 OLB in the draft, I also consider another CB here as well. Lewis makes all the plays and reminds me of Lance Briggs.
16. Washington- Cameron Jordan, OLB, California
The Redskins could have used Julio Jones, but he's long gone. If Jones is gone, look for Defense. Cameron Jordan has risen in the past 2-4 weeks and with reason. Andre Carter is done at this point, time to rebuild the defense and have Jordan to attack QB's with Orakpo.
17. Miami- Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
Ronnie Brown most likely, won't return. Ricky Williams said he will retire at seasons end. With the Pats not going with Ingram, the Dolphins gain a stud RB.
18. Jacksonville- DeQuan Bowers, DE, Clemson
The Jags are one of the bottom tier teams when it comes to Sacks. Bowers, slips a little in my mock ( just because I feel he's a little overhyped) and for the Jags, a perfect fit.
19. Tampa Bay- Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina
Geno Hayes and Quincey Black, both are good but I feel neither are above average starting OLB. With Bowers being taken right above them, I can see Tampa look BPA and add some more defensive help. Quinn has been the lone star on a rather poor and depleted Tar Heels defense.
20. Chicago- Anthony Costanzo, OT, Boston College
I remember viewing a WR, OLB and even DT here. NO, Cutler has to run more because they have NO OL. I was impressed by Webb the past couple of weeks but they still need a LT/ RT and Costanzo seems to be the best OT prospect in the draft.
21. Seattle- Derrick Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State
Russell Okung should be solid next season, opposite of him, Sean Locklear could be a FA next season ( even then, he wasn't that good) so time to upgrade the OL. I considered a DE or even CB here but you have to protect your QB and Sherrod can do that.
22. Kansas City- Janoris Jenkins, CB, Florida
I had KC with a WR last time. Now? I really think they need a CB. I like Brandon Flowers BUT in the NFL today, you really need 2 great CB. I was impressed the way Jenkins played on Georgia WR A.J. Green when they played, so he gets the nod.
23. New York Giants- Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA
Where can the Giants improve? Other the past 2-3 seasons, the Giants have drafted well and deep, I went BPA and Akeem Ayers. Ayers could play DE and OLB for the Giants and provide a great talent NYG and develop and groom.
24. Baltimore- Lawrence Guy, DE, Arizona St
Haloti Ngata is a MONSTER on one DE spot. The opposite DE spot? Cory Redding is a better backup then anything. Lawrance Guy is someone I kept my eye on, I really like his game. Guy might be a slight liability in the Run D but is a good pass rusher and can produce sacks.
25. Indianapolis- Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M
The Colts always sign undersized players. I could see them go for some linebacker help and Miller is a great candidate to be a OLB for the Colts
26. New Orleans- Greg Jones, OLB, Michigan St
New Orleans always needed a replacement at OLB and the loss of Fujita this past offseason makes it one of, it not the top need for Orleans.
27. Pittsburgh- Mike Pouncey, OG, Florida
The Steelers could use a OL help and the Steelers could use the brother of Maurkice Pouncey.
28. Atlanta- Johnathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh
Micheal Jenkins should be cut. Roddy White needs a complement next to him. The Falcons could afford to use the pick on the 6-5 beast from Pitt. I like his size, he has good hands but I don't like his overall speed.
29. Green Bay- Curtis Brown, CB, Texas
Al Harris was released 2 weeks ago and Charles Woodson has taken a step back. Tramon Williams has stepped up but the Pack still need a CB for the 3rd CB slot/future role. Brown has good cover corner skills and should be solid.
30. New York Jets- Micheal Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
Jerricho is at best when he's at his #3 role. I think Braylon Edwards will be leaving soon. Unless the Jets look for a OT or a NT, a WR is probably the best option for the best value. If Floyd had a solid QB at ND, He would have been a top 15 pick and maybe even over Baldwin.
31. New England- Cameron Hayward, DE/DT, Ohio State
Your calling me crazy, but the Pats need DL help. Ty Warren is coming back next season so the Pats could use someone next to him. Hayward is a great run defender who could help the Pats run D.
32. Philadelphia- Aaron Williams, CB, Texas
Besides Asante Samuel, what else does the Eagles have? Patterson has looked alright, Hobbs is a nickel corner back at best. Williams could be the man when Samuel eventually is gone.
Round 2
1. New England - from Carolina- Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech
2. Detroit- Joesph Barksdale, OT, LSU
3. Buffalo- Ras I Dowling, CB, Virginia
4. Cincinnati- Quan Sturdivant, ILB, North Carolina
5. San Francisco- Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia
6. Cleveland- Jeremy Beal, OLB, Oklahoma
7. Dallas- Brandon Burton, CB, Utah
8. Denver- Jerrell Powe, NT, Ole Miss
9. Minnesota- Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado
10. Arizona- DeMarcus Love, OT, Arkansas
11. Houston-Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State
12. St. Louis- Jurell Casey, DT, USC
13. Oakland- Benjamin Ijalana, OG/OT, Villanova
14. Tennessee- Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue
15. Washington- Leonard Hankerson, WR, Miami
16. Denver - from Miami- Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame
17. San Diego- Christian Ballard, DE/DT, Iowa
18. Jacksonville- Dontay Moch, OLB, Nevada
19. Chicago- Devier Posey, WR, Ohio State
20. Tampa Bay- Greg Romeus, DE, Pittsburgh
21. Seattle-Will Hill, S, Florida
22. New York Giants- Mikel LeShoure, RB, Illinois
23. Kansas City- Austin Pettis, WR, Boise State
24. Baltimore- Dont'a Hightower, ILB, Alabama
25. Indianapolis- Daniel Thomas, RB, Kansas St
26. Pittsburgh- Marcus Cannon, OG, TCU
27. New Orleans- DeMarco Murray, RB, Oklahoma
28. Atlanta- Rahim Moore, S, UCLA
29. Green Bay- Darrius Morris, OT, Temple
30. San Diego - from New York Jets- Ryan Boyles, WR, Oklahoma
31. New England- Matt Renyolds, OT, BYU
32. Philadelphia- Marvin Austin, DT, North Carolina
