I think Aaron williams look a little better than Prince during these drills.(except in the short lateral press) Williams even get the best of Prince with a juke move at the 5:01 mark

I was just thinking about something and was wondering if it crossed anyone elses mind. Its not quite numerology but its cool nonetheless. First I was thinking #7 is a lucky number. Patrick is a 7 letter word. Patrick peterson wears #7 and we have the # 7 pick 7x7 is what? you guessed it 49

Niners Nation Do you think he could fall to the 3rd round?

Colin Kaepernick Looks nice to me.  What do you guys think about him, what are the knocks against him?  Whatever the knocks are against him I think he would be a steal if he fell to the 3rd round.  the Kids 6-6 225 and have one of the strongest arms I've seen.  He can throw a 92 MPH fast ball and is probably one of the best scramblers coming out (including Newton).

Kaepernick is a little under the radar.  Not many people speak of him here at ninersnation, I was curious why?  The combine may help his stock but as of now I can see him falling.  What makes that so appealing to me is how it shapes the draft for me.  If I was to draft Id absolutely have to have Peterson.  If a QB like Kaepernick could fall to the 3rd round I wouldnt be as angry if a team ahead of us Picked up Peterson.  I could change my whole direction.  Von Miller round 1 Brandon Harris round 2 and Colin Kaepernick round 3.  That doesnt sound like a bad draft.

I looked at Kaepernicks stats over the last few years and one thing I can say is he progressed each year with his completion percentage and QB ratings.  He's also consistent as far as stats are concerned.  I don't know if he has the ability to take over games or how smart he is  but the talent is most definitely there.  I seen him throw close to a 60 yard ball on a rope.  the ball didn't even Hang lol.

Niners Nation I was reading a list of free agents and came across QB #7

No not Michael Vick.  I'm talking about  Tavaris Jackson.  Whats the Big knock about him.  He isn't a locker room cancer He has a better arm then our most current QBs.  Not as a starter, but as a Back up.  He has far more upside then David carr and he's more mobile then Troy smith.  Not to mention he makes faster decisions.

I see alot of Guys Calling for Josh Johnson so why not Jackson.  He's only 27 and he's the closest thing to michael Vick out of any QBs with that skill set.  He actually does one thing better then Vick and thats slide.  Jackson will be a free agent and I dont see why he wouldnt be worth a look in the west coast Offense.  does he have accuracy issues?  alot of his ints were tipped passes in traffic.  Maybe there's a knock against his decision making.

He's only been sacked 47 times in 5 seasons Alex smith was sacked 47 times in only 2 (not even full) seasons. Josh Johnson has been reduced to strictly playing wildcat so his stats are fluffed a little. Do people believe T. Jack can resurrect his career in san fran under Jim Harbaugh or is he a lost cause?

Niners Nation What exactly are the Pro's and Cons to a Fangio Defensive scheme

this isn't going to be a well drawn out post.  I just wanted to get everyone's perspective on Newly hired Vic Fangio's Defensive scheme.  What does it do to our team?  I realize Vic isn't Dom.  But its mentioned often how they are similar so I'm going based off the Packers statistics and how it may effect ours.  We've been in the top 10 as far as rush defense the last two seasons under manusky, just barely missing it in 2008.

our defense is one of the most respected defenses over the last few seasons because of our stop the run first  like approach.  with Fangio's blitz heavy scheme will that affect our ability to stop the run.  this year we were ranked 13th overall 6th against the rush. Green bay was ranked 5th overall 18th against the rush.  without a high octane offense would a sudden drop in that particular statistic allow teams with bigger backs to milk the clock late in games.  Each team in our division have larger backs.  then again Maybe the added pressure and increase in man to man coverage force more turnovers.  Utilizing our aggressive corners and safety's to their fullest allowing our DB's to reach their potentials.

Would you prefer to Stop the run or pass first?  There are a few Statistics I left out just for the sake of argument.  I personally would sacrifice Our consistent Run defense for a better pass rush and increase in Turnovers.  Maybe our 22 game streak for 100 yard rusher come to an end If teams feel they have to run to beat us.  Maybe Manny lawson is a beast on shackles and Fangio has the Key.  What do ya'll think are the Pro's and or cons to this Hire?

when I read this the first thing I thought was cam newton. I'm not a huge cam newton fan but when I think about how raw he is and all the athletic ability he possess...the sky's the limit. If not cam then who? Jim Harbaugh + (Insert name here) = steve young

Niners Nation Could it be a sign?

I just noticed it  during the bye week.  As my screen saver shuffles through numerous 49er player wallpapers,  I noticed something.  "Could it be a sign" or a mere coincidence?  You remember how on final destination they would look at the pictures and see clues to who would die next?  well thats how i felt.  It's like I seen a sign I didn't notice at first.  one of the pics during the slide show is a pic of alex smith.

See each year I put a player on my laptop,xbox360 and desktop screen savers.   each time the player does well.  So this year I got greedy and put all my fav players and players who I felt it was important for them to have a great season.  Needless to say Alex smith was one of them.  Smiths pic is of him throwing with fire around him and a kinda off shot of him in the background in a #1 jersey (representing his overall draft status).  The way the light reflects in the pic smith almost looks black and the fact that he has a #1 jersey  makes it look like the other Smith.

Troy's number is orignally #10 and since he was given #1 due to Kyle Williams making it here first just made it interesting to me and I wanted to share that little story.  I see a few Troy haters  so I hope my magic rubs off on Troy

Niners Nation fresh start new opportunities (merriman)

I just read that "Lights out shawn merriman would be released if he is healthy sounds backwards.   I doubt our FO pulls the trigger on this one considering how timid they usually are but considering baalke is at the helm, were 0-5 and he could probably go for cheap it may not be so far fetched.  I see alot of fan post involving merriman but it always suggest a trade.  I'm not open to a trade scenario but picking him up via free agency could be a steal.  we would have an immediate elite pass rusher that could help our secondary out big time.  we would also team merriman up with willis to have one of the most feared linebacking groups in the league.  added speed and most importantly leadership.  willis as our best def player doesn't step up as a leader.  how much could our Off line benefit from having to deal with him in practice on a daily base.  I'm just saying...who think this could be something worth looking into?

Niners Nation So what happens if we beat the saints on monday night football

I just came across the "around the table superbowl predictions".  Alot of people are giving the jets and cowgirls the nodd,  but other teams like Greenbay Baltimore and, colts are not too far along. The fact of the matter is the saints are the defending champs.  Marshall faulk touched on the aggressivness teams come with against the defending champs.  Beating the champs early in the season has to do something for a teams confidence.  week 2 in the regular season is as good of time as any.  If the saints go on to have a terrible season after then our confidence wouldnt regress as the season progress. if we beat the shehawks convincingly then win against the saints in whatever fashion what happens then?  do we change our playoff hopes to superbowl hopes? stay humble?  what?  how does the nation receive us?  it will be a nationally televised game.  the power rankings.  I'm anxious to see what happens.  At first I gave the saints the win over us but I changed my mind because I believe their defense isn't built to defend our offense.  Our defense is better suited to play them.  my only true concern is brees ability to throw a receiver open

Niners Nation i got 99 problems and Francois aint one.

I could probably come up with 99 concerns/problems the 49ers may encounter this year. but instead I'm going to try to be more optimistic considering this is the most stoked up i've been since we concluded the 2006 season.   I'm try to shine some light on the Abrayo Franklin situation I understand Franklin is a nice 3-4 nose tackle so this post is in no way a knock on Franklin.  In the midst of Franklin's Absence i've been Intrigued by Ricky Jean Francois.  When we picked him up last year I was like meh...another DT. Now I've seen him a little more it's something about Francois that reminds me of number "99" Warren Sapp.  Now that Ricky Jean has been converted to nose it's a even more striking resemblance.  Warren sapp was known for his no holds bar style of trash talk, his brute strength and burst off the line as well.  Francois, while lacking that burst off the snap.   Strength and the ability to talk trash are two things he does possess.  Sapp at 6'2 285 ran a Blazing 4.69 at the combine and when he bulked up to 300 LBs he didn't lose a step.  Francois on the other hand ran a 5.19 at 6'3 295 further evidence he lacks that elite speed.  Francois picked up some LBs I think he's around 303 or something of that nature.  303 is a little small for a 3-4 nose but with his strength he should fair well.  Francois and sapps position asked for different task.  Sapp's was to attack the QB.  Francois's is to created lanes for our LBs.  Giving their responsibilities there's no way Francois's Career numbers can be as spectacular as Sapps, but the attributes comparable gives me much to look forward to.  Ricky jean and Warren sapp could pass for brothers if you was to cut off his braids.  yea but I'm loving it like a mc donalds commercial.  If Ricky can be half as viscous as Sapp it would be that much easier to let franklin walk

will Ricky jean francois be a valuable replacement for Abrayo Franklin

Niners Nation jersey dilemma should i wait for a contract extension

whats good Niners Nation?  I just wanted your input on a jersey purchase.   The last jersey I purchased was Terrell Owens jersey, so yea.....lol.   Before Owens I got a rice jersey for Xmas and he was already playing for another team.  My problem  is how should I go about getting a jersey considering players are being shipped off let and right.   Patrick ("what you talking bout!") Willis is probably the safest pick.  He's young , just signed an extension,  and it wouldn't hurt that he's the face of our defense.  I like Willis but he isn't my favorite player on this team.  It may or may not comes as a shocker but I like Manny Lawson more.  The problem with Manny and a number of the other jersey candidates are they may not be around long.  I like Dashon Goldson (hate his number) but what if he has another injury plagued season(knock on wood)?  He may be gone next year.  I like Nate Clements but he's aging.  Frank gore?  running backs don't last long.  I'm just really suspect about which jersey i get.  Then there's the Andy Lee.  Punters normally last pretty long.  He's kind of young and inexpensive but how can I rep a kicker out in public?  If I'm excited that our Punter is on the field that mean I'm excited and used to losing right?  Anyway what are some of your methods to getting a jersey?

Niners Nation what exactly is the nut cracker?

I know we do this drill called blood alley, and no one has ever got seriously hurt.  We didn't do it here at U of L but in highschool it was like an everyday thing.  Our team would get extremely excited when coach yelled out "BLOOD ALLEY!! Offense over here Defense over there".  Do any of ya'll know exactly what nut cracker is?  See "Blood alley"  was when two guys lie flat on their backs about 10 yards apart  with their feet pointing the opposite direction of each other.  One with a football,  The other empty handed.   you cant see anything but the sky.  Once the coach blows the whistle you have get off your back as quick as possible and run through whomever the opposing guy was lol.  it got pretty nasty out there especially when it was raining.  this Drill seperated the men from the boys.  the defensive guy normally had the advantage because his hands were free so he sprung up like a half second faster.  The real athletic guys were already in your face by the time you got to your feet.  Oh then there was hamburger.  that drill was when the skilled player had the ball, and a Off lineman  was set in front of you.  Then on the other side you have a Def lineman and a DB.  all four players are set between the bags and when the coach blew the whistle you had to make it to the other end without stepping outside of the bags or getting tackled.  I'm a Free safety now at U of L but in Highschool I was a RB.  Our Off line was crap so it usually resulted in me having to put a move on the lineman and running the DB over.  Frank gore like.    Anyway can somebody enlighten me...what exactly is the nutcracker is it similar?
