Brandon Inge
What do you think Twins Fans? Brandon Inge is requesting to be traded.
Detroit would be the first to agree that he is not Miguel Cabrera. However, other than obtaining a 3b prospect - there is not simply any good 3b options out there. Unless of course you are happy with keeping Nick Punto at 3rd, or go with Mr. Buscher.
Inge did not have a very good year last year. I know this all to well as he was on my fantasy team. However, even his down numbers greatly exceed anything the Twins have had at 3b since the Koskie years. Throw in great defense, and the ability to be a 3rd string catcher, and he looks like a pretty good fit.
He is 30 years old, and has 3 years and 19 million left on his contract. Maybe expensive for Carl - but would easily fit our budget. He is making similiar to what Castillo was.
Lets hear your thoughts!
Santana update
The Red Sox fan blog (over the monster) contains some interesting reading. They are citing Gammons stating that the Red Sox and Twins are meeting this afternoon (right now) to further discuss the trade and what set of players the twins prefer. There is also info that the Twins are requesting an additional player in addition to the 3 or 1 or 4 for 1 deals already described. Moss and Kalish are mentioned.
I think they should ask for Bowden to be added.
Red Sox fans think there are getting a good deal as it has been described so far.
TWINS MAKE SANTANA OFFER
Buried in Sid's Star Tribune column is that the Twins made an offer to Santana in the 5 year 93 million range. I can't see anywhere the national media has picked this up.
Regardless of the spin pro or con on this offer I am greatly relieved to know that the Twins are trying to move forward to resolve the Santana issue. Know whether you can sign him prior to the winter meetings so that if you can't you can proceed with a trade.
Sid's comments reads as follows:
The word in baseball circles is that the Twins have made a five-year offer to two-time Cy Young Ward winner Johan Santana calling for $93 million.
Santana will be in the final year of his four-year, $40 million contract in 2008.
It's doubtful that Santana will accept this offer, but at least it's a start in an attempt to lock up the pitcher many consider to be the best in baseball.
Meanwhile, there isn't any doubt that the Twins are waiting for free-agent outfielder Torii Hunter to get some offers, and if Hunter wants to return here as he claims, he will give the Twins a chance to match.
Twins closer Joe Nathan will become a free agent at the end of the 2008 season. The Yankees didn't make it any easier for the Twins to re-sign Nathan when they offered Mariano Rivera a three-year contract calling for $45 million. The Twins recently exercised a $6 million option on Nathan for next year.
Lets identify pitchers available via trade
I really dont like many of the free agent options (that are affordable). I think its much more likely that TR will make a trade to fill this need. Lets all try to identify those pitchers with just a year or two left until free agency that may be available by trade.
Lets see what you all can come up with.
New Century Mark - frustration - idiocy
Twins score 7 runs in the first inning. Carlos Silva's sinker is not sinking in the first inning. His sinker is not sinking in the second inning. His sinker is not sinking in the third inning. His sinker is not sinking in the fourth inning. Finally, Mr. Gardenhire figures out he should put in a new pitcher.
Mark Buehrle becomes the first pitcher in baseball in over a CENTURY to give up 7 runs in the first inning and still win the game.
I would not feel so frustrated if Mr. Gardenhire did not have other options. But he has a deep reliable bullpen and plenty of ready arms in Rochester. But instead of utilizing the strength of the organization, sending Silva down to work on his sinker, we clobber ourselves over the head.
I have not felt this kind of frustration since pre 1987 Ron Davis days. OMG - what a horrible feeling. Nightmares.
Where is TK? He needs to be our savior again and talk some sense into some people. The management is off the tracks.
