Kings fan since '00-'01, NorCal resident since '04, season ticket holder since '07-'08. As die-hard as they come. Proud to call Sacramento my home, and the Kings my team.

College sports allegiances are split between my hometown Syracuse Orange and my alma mater, the Stanford Cardinal.

What ever happened to Big Mike?

Someone out there can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the franchise parted ways with the venerable emcee after the 2007-2008 season. I really miss his "honest" energy, his grit, "Arco...

Downtown Arena Debate - via Sacramento Press Club

+

I have not posted here in awhile, but I've sure been following the trials and tribulations of the team and the arena situation with you all over these past several months. I was a bit surprised that this "informal" debate event had not yet been posted here on StR, so I decided to go ahead and put up a link. I am not personally involved with the Press Club. Here is the blurb from their site below: "All of Sacramento anxiously waited this spring to hear whether the NBA would approve a sale of the Sacramento Kings to a coalition of owners who promised to keep the team in town. Key to that successful effort led by Mayor Kevin Johnson was the city's promise of a new sports complex for the team. As plans proceed, a group calling itself STOP, or Sacramento Taxpayers Opposed to Pork, is mounting a campaign to put the arena plan before voters. Please join us on Thursday, Aug. 22 as the Sacramento Press Club hosts a debate about the proposed downtown arena. The discussion will be moderated by Sacramento Bee reporter Ryan Lillis. Joshua Wood will represent proponents of the new entertainment and sports complex. Wood is executive director of Region Builders, a commercial building industry trade association that launched DowntownArena.Org in July. The coalition of business, labor and civic groups is backing the project. Tab Berg, founder and president of TABcommunications Inc., a political and public relations firm, will represent an informal coalition now circulating a petition that would put the use of taxpayer funds for the arena before voters."

NBA Draft Lottery 2012: Kings Are a Lucky Ping-Pong Ball Away from Playoffs

From Bleacher Report, this article poses the following question to the general NBA fan: "Is Sactown an (immediate) playoff contender with Anthony Davis?" Anyone else out there excited about this lottery?

Could A's leave Bay? Selig raises possibility

58

I know that this is not directly Kings-related, but as the most followed Sacramento sports fanboard on the Internet, I felt this was an appropriate place to post this. Should the Mayor and/or regional leaders spend any more time courting the A's, or could this negatively affect our chance to keep the Kings even further? Would MLB even be viable in a small-to-mid-sized market like Sacramento? Even if it were viable, could our market expect to generate the revenue needed to fund a successful franchise given baseball's current financial structure?

Mayor: Arena 'Plan B' Now Expected Next Month

133

From KCRA: A new plan for how to build an arena in downtown Sacramento is now expected in June, Mayor Kevin Johnson said Tuesday. "It's going to take a little longer," Johnson told reporters. Johnson had initially said he hoped to offer an update to the City Council as early as May 8.

Kreidler weighs in on the Kings staying in Sacramento

22

I don't know about the rest of you, but this article smacks of "Kreids" telling Sacramentans that they shouldn't get too high on the efforts of the mayor and the fans in keeping the Kings in town. Part of me feels that there are some sour grapes here given the Rise Guys' recent departure from the region, which was [my opinion here] in part affected by the likelihood that Sactown would be without a major league franchise shortly. It's not that there are any real inaccuracies in Mark's article, it just felt largely unnecessary to me. It would be great to get the Rise Guys back for an interview on local radio (maybe on Grant's show) to get their thoughts on the recent arena/franchise developments. StR, what say you?

SacBee's Morning After w/ Tyreke Evans

Tyreke credits a pep talk from Kings Head Coach Paul Westphal as part of his resurgent performance against the Hornets. I don't sense any veiled animosity towards PW in his quotes; in fact, I infer a significant amount of trust and respect.
