Hello... I'd like to take this moment for myself to introduce... well... myself. The name is ROC 27. I'm coming over here to make the Silver Screen and Roll my 2nd home. I come to you from Arrowhead Pride, a Kansas City Chiefs blog... I know, I know... But overall I AM a full blooded Los Angeles Lakers fan. I live here in L.A. and have followed the Lakers since I was a little guy...

So, now that we've passed that and you all know that I'm a new kid around these parts, there won't be any hosility towards me if this is a subject that has already been spoken of... I'll be around here for a long time and I look forward to getting to know all of you fellow Lake-Show comrads...

So, let's get to business...

Let's break down the NBA Finals possiblities... Am I putting the cart in front of the horse? Is it too early to talk like the Lakers are already there? In opinion... NO. We're there. We already held up the Western Conference trophy. Kobe already did the interview. Bynum already celebrated at the Playboy Mansion. And we're just waiting for the East to settle... The only thing that isn't yet determined is WHO we'll be facing... So, Laker fans... Who would YOU like to face?

Option A) Boston Celtics

Ahh, the Celtics... Bird vs Magic. Kobe vs ... well... The whole team. You know, I sat here today and watched the Celtics lose to the Bulls. And... Wow! That was such a great game. I mean, it went into TRIPLE OVERTIME for cryin' out loud. But then I realized something... I wish we were the Bulls. No. Not Chicago (God no), but in their position. Why? I like the fights. I like the tension and animosity. I like the competitivness. All of that.

Utah proved to be a bit of a challenge... But not enough to come up with more than 1 win. If you ask me, I'm kinda bummed that Sacramento isn't as good as they used to be. I'm kinda bummed that the Suns didn't make the playoffs. It would have been a pretty sweet series against rivals of that sort. So, what's the next best thing? ... Yup, you guessed it; The Boston Celtics. We hate them and they hate us. As I mentioned before, I AM a Chiefs football fan and I Hate the Raiders to an unbelievable amount... Well, I'm a Laker fan who hates the Celtics almost as much. I would LOVE to redeem ourselves from last year's upset. I know, I know... If we won, people will be like, "Well, the Celtics were missing KG. It's not even something to be proud of." And my response to that... If Boston was good enough to get through Chicago, Orlando OR the LeBron and the Cavs, then they didn't even NEED KG. Theyre good without him... I think we need that fire under our ass to make sure we punk out Paul Pierce. We need the aggresion that Derrick Rose showed to shut down Rondo. Our bench needs the motivation to out perform the Boston bench.

But then the question comes up... Is Boston the only team that we can have this heated series with? Cue...

Option B) Chicago Bulls

Ben Gordon, Joakim Noah, Derrick Rose and company have really made their stand and showed this post-season that they aren't going to be pushovers. I mean, here they are giving the CURRENT NBA champs a run for their money and are just about ready to send them home (or in this case.. KEEP them home :::Game 7 Saturday, in Boston). How do we match up? Rose (or Gordon) vs Kobe? Noah vs Gasol? Salmons vs Odom? I think it comes down to experience. And we're just too long to let this young Chicago team challenge us the way they've challenged Boston thus far. Next....

Option C) Orlando Magic

A big, big team... A team that had our number this past season. Can Andrew Bynum step up his game against Dwight Howard? I'm not gonna lie, but I doubt it. I think Bynum could play on a guy like Yao Ming. Ming doesn't have the explosiveness that Howard does. I think Bynum could have a real hard time with Howard... And don't get me started on Gasol. But that's all we have. Odom could play Howard (6-11 Howard vs 6-10 Odom) but I think Odom might have his hands full with Rashard Lewis at Foward. This is a potential 7 game series. Pretty interesting to see if this actually happens. I think their big men could give our big men a challenge... but with that being their strong points... Insert Mr. Kobe Bryant. Kobe would dominate the Magic backcourt. All we'd have to do is watch the 1 on1's and if they aren't there and it's all double teams, quick pass to Ariza, Sasha, or Fish and theres the open 3. Thank you Kobe. Your'e a threat without even taking a shot. Lakers take it.

Option D) Cleveland Cavaliers

The battle for Jordan's successor. Does that bother you? Well, too bad. It's the truth. We've waited for the next guy to carry that torch. And it WILL be one of these 2. Sure, Kobe will be done with the game well before LeBron is, but Kobe won't be done for quite a while. He is in his prime. But let's shy away from Kobe vs LeBron for a second... Lakers / Cavs... It's what everyone is waiting for. It's what everyone wants. Is it what YOU want... Well, vote.

I'm not gonna stack my money on the fact that we won in Cleveland when they were undefeated there, like most often do... But it DOES show that they're beatable at home. In my opinion Gasol can take Varejao. I believe Bynum can handle Ilgauskas. Odom can hold Ben Wallace down for the series... So, I think we'll have to focus on Kobe/ LeBron and Mo Williams/ our gaurds. Mo Williams can cut you and we need to find the right guy for the job. Fisher will start, but we need the right backup to keep him fresh. With the arrival of Shannon Brown, we've just became more versatile.

Overall it's more than Kobe vs LeBron. It'll be the ultimate professional series... Boring? Call it what you want, but those will be quite the games.

So there you have it... My 1st post here on Silver Screen and Roll. But have at it Laker fans. Who are we facing in the 2009 NBA Finals?

Since there are an array of new people coming into our fold here at Arrowhead Pride, I wanted to take this time to formally introduce... well... US... This is an Official Arrowhead Pride Roll Call Introduction... Let's rec this up that way newbies can read this and get a feel of who's who here at Arrowhead Pride and for those of us who need to be reminded of our fellow AP pioneers. So, I wanna hear from all of you AP Vets (that means you Lanier, UC, DThomasReigns, primetime, etc etc) and the newly drafted AP Rookies...

Hello, the names ROC 27. As you can tell I am one of few Larry Johnson supporters. I'm from Los Angeles, California (tough place for a Chiefs fan to live... Chargers and Raiders fans everywhere, but I fight on). I enherited my Chiefs fandom from my Dad... the only good thing he ever left for me.I have an english bulldog named Dexter and a fiancee (soon to be wife in 3 months) and they are both Chiefs fans. As I've said before, I'm one of the more debate-ful "AP'ers" around these parts. But I have confindence that I am loved by our fellow contributors. If you ever wanna meet me, you can find me every season at Qualcom stadium once a year... I'll be the guy in thick black framed glasses, an LJ jersey, and the only one standing and clapping AT the Charger fans that I'm surrounded by when we score. Other than that.... Welcome to Arrowhead Pride.

The Story So Far...

It seems as though people around Arrowhead Pride and other Chiefs blogs (which will go un-named) through out the web are growing doubtful and restless with the way Scott Pioli has handled things.... But my question is....

What more do you people want?

This off-season has ALREADY been one of the biggest and intriguing off-seasons in years! We've seen so much thus far....

via images.ibsys.com

We let go of one of the longest standing general managers in NFL history. Carl Peterson's reign of terror came to an end right before our very eyes. After years of bad decisions, bull crap lies, and false hopes, the new acting owner (Clark Hunt) made one of the bigger decisions in Kansas City Chiefs history. People were singing "Celebrate Good Times" all through out the streets of Missouri and Kansas. From this point, people were asking... "What's next?"

via cache.boston.com

After the departure of King Carl Peterson, people asked who was going to lead our team into the future... After years of pessimistic views and outlooks on the Chiefs, many around these parts were in major doubt of Clark Hunt landing THE hottest GM prospect at the regular season's end. With doubt looming over Arrowhead, Clark Hunt got Scott Pioli to turn his back on the franchise that he helped build and become one of the most dominant football teams since the San Fransisco 49ers of the 80's and 90's. Scott Pioli has been quoted to saying, "I will work tirelessly to get this done and do everything in every waking hour. That’s my job and the only promise I can make."

Not even 2 months into being intorduced as the new GM of our organization, people are already so quick to nailing Pioli. Why? Because he hasnt made any HUGE Free Agent name pick-ups? Well, fans, do not forget Pioli's view. He out right said, "I don’t think you’re ever one or two players away. We’re not building just for 2009. The goal is to build a team that has a long shelf life of being a good football team."

Patience is the key, boys (and girl). Things work out for the best when done the right way. People are eager to land big names, but heres a TIP... Trust In Pioli. He's already made us a better football team. How?

via bleacherreport.com

Our new General Manager made his 1st football move for the Chiefs by letting go of the "coach" who coined the phrase, "You play to win the game!"... I mean, really... if you say that, and your team loses just about every game that they play under your guidance, this head coaching gig aint for you, brother. And Scott Pioli saw that. After winning only 6 out of 32 games, time was just about up for the coach. And it was now time for the Chiefs to move on without the influence of Herman "Herm" Edwards Jr.

What now?

via www.kcchiefs.com

Enter Todd Haley.

After assisting the Arizona Cardinals to playoff victories over Philidelphia and Carolina and a trip to the Super Bowl, Todd Haley found it fit to take on the next challenge in his life, and that was to take over a struggling Kansas City Chiefs football team. With the rising stock in new and young head coaches (ie; Mike Tomlin and Jim Harbough) and with the NFL being a "copy-cat" league, the Chiefs found it neccesary to (like the players of need) go young and energetic by hiring Offensive coordinator, Todd Haley as the new Head Coach. It has yet to be seen if Haley will work out for KC, but like many said, anything but Herm would be an improvement. Haley made Arizona into an offensive juggernaut. People may have thought, "How is he going to be able to build such an offense in Arrowhead with a 3rd string Quarterback, an unhappy Tight End, and 1 decent Wide Reciever?"

via d.yimg.com

Scott Pioli made the move and brought in his "Guy". Just as he did with Haley and as Haley did with most of his coaching staff, it looks as though Matt Cassel will be the Franchise QB of today and the future. Though people may not trust Cassel's short experience in the NFL and last years stint as a starter for the dynasty that is the New England Patriots, but the fact of the matter still stands: Matt Cassel has 11 wins in this league, 10 more than Thigpen, and has shown that he can play in the NFL, unlike what Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez have gotten the chance to. And taking over for Tom Brady, Cassel didn't look too shabby.

Cassel is now a Chief. And will be our new starter (mark my words).

via cache.boston.com

Some of you complain that we made a mistake by letting Kawika Mitchell slip away... But if you ask me, we're gaining a new and better #50. Mike Vrabel still has a lot of game in him. Vrabel will immediately lead and become an example to this young football squad. Some felt that we needed a defensive presence like that of the likes a Ray Lewis or Derrick Brooks. Well, while Lewis may have had a huge price tag and Brooks may be a little TOO long in tooth, maybe Vrabel is what this team needs. Though 62 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception may not stand out numbers wise, Vrabel may set off the spark for our younger players to play with the intensity and focus as he does game in and game out.

"I know that I have got some more football left," Vrabel said. "I can still play and I can still help the Chiefs and I will help the Chiefs. I have never gone into a season and said, ‘I am going to do this, this and this.’ I will promise you that I will work, I’ll be consistent and, God willing, I will be durable. Those are the things that I like to think that I brought to the table in New England and will bring to the table in Kansas City."

I have faith that Vrabel isnt the only one who feels this way. Scott Pioli, Todd Haley, Matt Cassel, and Mike Vrabel himself, have come to this team to help. Because God knows that we need it. But before you "Glass half empty" guys jump to conclusions, lets give this a chance. Let's ride this out. Because I used to be one of you... After years of dealing with the likes of Carl Peterson, Herm Edwards, the "so close" efforts of Marty Shottenhiemer, and the "too many hugs, not enough tackles" days of Dick Vermiel, I for one believe that there is a new era in Kansas City. An era that will take us back to relevancy in the NFL. I believe in Scott Pioli. I believe in the <strike>Patriot</strike> Chief Way.

via images.stltoday.com

I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.

Which side of the line are YOU on?

I'm not a Quaterback guy... I played CB in high school and I have a side job interview coming up to be an assistant defensive coach at that same high school I attended.... So yes, I take a little more interest in the defensive side of football... But the newly developed "Quarterback Controversy" in Kansas City is getting more and more interesting.

A lot of people here lately have been pretty hard on Scott Pioli's way of letting out information. They feel that things in the organization are a bit too "secretive"... But you cannot tell me that the Saturday morning "Matt Cassel Surprise" wasnt pretty awesome. If you tell me it wasn't, I'd call you a liar.

Now... with Todd Haley stating that there will be competition for the starting QB role this coming season, it kinda leaves people a bit puzzled and with questions.

1. Why would we trade for Matt Cassel, pay over 14 million for 1 year, and still wonder if he'll be our Franchise QB?

Now, I understand that some of you think, "Matt Cassel played in a formidable New England offense. With a solid O-Line and receiving threats such as Randy Moss and Wes Welker."

Now is this really the case? Will Matt Cassel have a harder time playing in our Offense? Well, some may agree that Dwayne Bowe could very well be as productive as Randy Moss. If you think about it (or look it up), in the '08 season, Randy Moss had 69 receptions for 1,008 yards (14.6 avg.) and 11 Touchdowns. Dwayne Bowe on the other hand had 86 receptions for 1,022 yards (11.9 avg.) and 7 Touchdowns. Granted the TD ratio is a bit off (4), but with a better passing game of course, this can easily change.

Question #2. Have we REALLY given Tyler Thigpen a shot to become our Franchise QB?

At the helm of our football team, Thigpen threw for 2,608 yards and 18 TD's (ahead of Ben Rothlisberger, Kerry Collins, and Matt Ryan to name a few), which isn't bad considering that Thigpen really only started 11 games (without a running game mind you).

Todd Haley claims that Tyler Thigpen has a lot of moxie. Which is good for a QB to have. Attitude can really make a player in this league step up. And because of that "moxie" and play on Sundays, Thigpen gained the respect and trust from his teamates, namely Pro Bowl Tight End and Future Hall of Famer, Tony Gonzalez... But how much water does that hold?

The 3rd and Final Question: Head to Head, who REALLY has the best chance to be the face of this franchise?

When the smoke clears and everything is still, it boils down to WINS. And Matt Cassel came up with 11... Tyler Thigpen? Well... He STARTED 11 games. WIns? .... 1.

Sure Cassel had the opportunity to play in more games than Tyler, but you cannot deny talent. And If Cassel won 11 games for US last season, we'd have won the AFC West (easily) and a home game in the playoffs (against the Colts). Matt Ryan and the Falcons won games, and yes they made it to the playoffs, but Matt Ryan had an undeniable ground game, which was a huge factor to his success. And quite frankly, the numbers don't lie. Matt Cassel's '08 campaign consisted of 3,693 yards (8th in the league- right behind Donavan McNabb and Peyton Manning), 21 TD's 230 yards avg. per game.

As for Tyler "Bones"- "Thiggy" - "Pigpen"- Thigpen, he'll either be our #2 or a #1 somewhere else. Sure Todd Haley SAYS that we're gonna give him a shot, but it aint Haley who calls the shots.... We hired Scott Pioli for a reason. If there is a team in the NFL who wants to make Thigpen their guy, Pioli will pull the trigger for the right price. Especially if that means more draft picks... Hey it's the <strike>Patriot</strike> Chief Way.

So without throwing out possiblities of what could, should, or would happen... Let's get down to it and draw the line in the dirt....

“Sure I would love to play for Kansas City,” Curry said of the Chiefs. “Tank was a year ahead of me. Those are the glorious days for me … we really took it to some teams on the defense. We prided ourselves on hitting hard, getting 11 hats on the football. That’s just been my mentality since playing with Tank.”

As some of you may've noticed by now, I've been pretty much M.I.A. around these parts.

                  See what had happened was....

My boss saw that I was on this website all day-every day. I mean, I got my work done. But I guess that doesnt matter much.I don't consider my "Addiction" to AP a problem. I like to consider it being die hard. I mean, when peope talk about their fooball team, they seem to not know as much as I do of my (our) Chiefs. And I thank AP for that... So, naturally, my boss shut off my internet. Now, I can't comment here... BUT I am STILL keeping up with AP and everything you (my favorite Chiefs fans are posting). I read everything off of my cell phone, all through out the work day.

I will be back sooner than later though. I'm 22 and live on my own and starting to get on my feet.... I just got my DirecTV and will be getting my internet too.

Now, I read that we should have a Arrowhead Pride Tailgate party.... That is a gnarly idea. But as awesome as that'll be on Opening Day.... I think we should make it the day we play the Dallas Cowboys. Cause that'll be the game I'll be attending this season. And what a game that'll be. But to top it off, putting a name to faces such as "TRUTH", "Eric Allen", "primetime", the infamous "UCrawford", the Ring Leader, "Chris" and everyone here at AP, would be pretty amazing if you ask me.

So, in conclusion... With everything that's changing in Kansas City, theres one thing that won't change for any of us.....

                                                                       Need I say more?

Go Chiefs!

'Pioli' is the name

Factoring into his thinking is the fact that Pioli's understudy Thomas Dimitroff has had such tremendous success in his first season in Atlanta that it has made the prospects of calling his own shots more attractive than ever. Should Pioli decide to leave, there should be a host of clubs willing to obtain his services in a general managerial or presidential capacity. The Chiefs have an opening for the top position following the resignation of Carl Peterson, and Kansas City could offer the type of all-encompassing powers that he likely would require to leave Foxborough.

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/AFC/AFC+East/New+England/WWHI/2008/wwhi122408.htm

(Check it out. Interesting points)

And they also bring to light the possiblity of what I want to call, "The Triad"

(tri-ad _ noun 1. a group of three closely related persons or things)

If Pioli does scratch his itch, he won’t have to look far to find two of the men with which he’ll build his franchise around. In Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and QB Matt Cassel

Now, should Pioli become the GM of our beloved CHIEFS, then we just might say goodbye to both Herm Edwards and Tyler Thigpen. Herm would get the boot as Thig would get the bench. And we may see a suprise appearance in Kansas City as (aside from Marty Shottenheimer) Pioli may the only person to bring Bill Cowher back from the dead (broadcasting).

This could be called the "REAL Re-building of Kansas City project". Because, granted we needed youth on the team and some more talent at positions, we are also over-due for a turnaround within the front offices and coaching staff. If you can imagine the optimism of people like Pioli, Cowher, Cassel, and McDaniels (plus the existing Kansas City Chiefs), this could be a project that could take off to more of a success than any other franchise in NFL history.

With all this hooplah of Herm's 85% comment, I was thinking about what we need as far as our team is considered. I think that we have a great group of guys on our team. Guys that will be part of this team for a long time to come. But do we really have 85% of our future on the team now? Well, let's look at the core of our players, the better guys on our team that will play a continuous role in the future.

LT: Branden Albert

LG: Brian Waters

TE: Tony Gonzalez

RB: Larry Johnson / Jamaal Charles

#2 WR: Dwayne Bowe

FB: Mike Cox

LE: Tamba Hali

DT: Glenn Dorsey

CB: Brandon Flowers / Brandon Carr

S: Bernard Pollard / Jarrad Page

LB: Derrick Johnson

P: Dustin Colquitt

These are the 14 core players on our team (in my opinion, ofcourse). Now some of you ask, "Why is D.Bowe listed as a #2?", "Why Larry Johnson?", and "Why Tony Gonzalez? He might not even be here in '09."

Well, I'll get to it...

I love D.Bowe. I love his personality. I think he's a great player. Do I think that he is our #1 reciever that we need? No. Why? I look at a guy like Calvin Johnson. And granted Bowe had a better rookie year than Johnson, but on a 0-15 team (possible 0-16 team) Calvin Johnson has managed to have a great season w/ 1229 recieving yards. We'll be lucky to get 1,000 from Bowe. And don't get it twisted, I'm not bashing D. Bowe, but I think he would be an outstanding #2 WR. Simply because he hasnt neccesarily soldified the #1 spot.

via www.ogpaper.com

LJ.... LJ... LJ.... Well, as I know a lot of you here can't stand the thought of having LJ back in '09. But I hate to break it to you, I think he's here to stay (at least that year). We have no clue what kind of team we'll have after Herm leaves. I mean, imagine if we were to pick up a Bill Cowher type of coach (or Bill Cowher himself), we are running the ball. And we're bound to see LJ return to form with 20+ carries a game. But whether or not we have Herm or a running style coach, LJ will more than likely still have 2009 to prove himself. I think he has showed that he deserves another shot. His pass blocking has gotten a hell of a lot better and he's also showed that he can play well in this Arrow-spread offense. So, needless to say, LJ solidifies the starting RB spot (right now, and more than likely in '09. Unless we get stupid and draft Chris Wells- Ohio)

via www.signonsandiego.com

And as for Tony Gonzalez, I think with the firing of Carl Peterson, likely firing of Herm Edwards, a promising young and talented team, and the striking friendship he's developed QB Tyler Thigpen, I think that Tony Gonzalez will remain a Chief until the day he hangs up the cleats.

Now for the rest of the positions of need, I feel can be addressed within the next 2 off-seasons. We need 2 LBs, C, RG, RT, WR, RE, & DT. I think that we can fill at least 3-4 of those positions THIS off-season (w/ Bart Scott, MAYBE JUST MAYBE Julius Peppers - Carolina has to decide whether to tag Peppers or Jordan Gross. Wouldnt mind Haynesworth though. WEe can fill a couple needs in the 1st Round: Orkapo/ Maualuga, USC/ or Laurinaitis, Ohio, and 2nd Round: Alex Mack, Cal)

via media3.washingtonpost.com

The QB position...

(Thanks for the reminder TRUTH)

This is a tough one. I think it really depends on what occurs in the off-season. It depends on if the new GM keeps Herm or not. And if NOT, will the new coach continue to work with the strengths of Tyler Thigpen? Can Thigpen play in the traditional NFL formation? Or does he need to play with the so-called "Arrow-spread" scheme that has launched him into the steady incline of an "above- average" NFL QB?

Brodie Croyle is a good football player. I DO think he should stick around as a 2nd or 3rd string QB. Damon SHOULD be traded. And I honestly think Quinn Gray should hang out on the depth chart at our #2 QB spot.

Do I think we should draft a QB? Yes. In the 1st round? No. We have bigger and better needs to fill as of right now.

All of that has yet to be seen. And these things will be answered this off-season.

This is all speculation, ofcourse... But it gives us something to think about.

via i.dailyherald.com

Our dear Bernard Pollard has been playing his heart out. I won't doubt that.... but is he really the right guy for our SS position?? Pollard is a hittier (hence: "Bone Crusher"), but is he the SS that we need?

We look at a guy like Troy Palamalu, Brian Dawkins, Bob Sanders, etc etc... And quite frankly, Jarrad Page is fitting that mold a bit more than #49. Page has 4 INTs, 80 tackles, and 2 FFs. He's playing like a progressing Safety.

Now, I'm not saying Pollard is playing like sh*t at the position. He's doing a decent job (w/ 92 tackles, 2 FFs, and 1 INT). BUT... imagine how many more tackles he'd have and would have made if (hear me out for a second) he were a Linebacker.

As a Safety, as you all know, he's playing 10-12 yards off the line of scrimmage. So, Pollard finds himself on a constant pursuit. If he were a LB, he'd be able to utilize his hitting abilities and speed a lot better.
