Is Earl Thomas the Cowboys Trade Up Target?

This man may be the object of the Cowboys' obsession.

Some Draft Kremlinology: I'm starting to see and hear rumors of a Dolphins-Cowboys trade and I feel I have my strongest crumb of evidence yet, one that is hiding in plain sight. If you've gone to Rick Gosselin's final mock on the DMN's site, you've no doubt seen a couple of strange picks, ones which Cowboys and especially Dolphins fans have noticed. Gosselin, who has produced the most accurate mocks for years, has the Dolphins taking WR Demarius Thomas with their first pick, and has the Cowboys taking Dez Bryant with theirs. In Gosselin's top 100, Bryant retains his top 10 ranking, while the late riser Thomas sits at 21. Would the Dolphins really take Thomas at 12? Or do the picks make a lot more sense if the two teams swap places? Think about it.

All In For Earl Thomas?

346

The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat's Matt Maiocco, for my money the best 49ers beat writer (shoot, one of the best beat writers period) blogs this morning that the Cowboys have shown interest in moving up to the 13th spot, with Texas FS Earl Thomas as the target. (Scroll deep into the story.) Here's the dilemma: in draft value terms, a move that high would cost Dallas' 1st, 2nd AND 3rd. And that's the proposal Maiocco lays out. I love Earl Thomas, but I also love O-line depth. Would you go all in for him? I'm not sure I would, unless a player or players were substituted for the draft picks.

Eagles Trade McNabb to Redskins

170

The ghost of George Allen returned tonight, in the form of his son Bruce. When Allen the elder took the Redskins helm in 1970, he declared, "the future is now" and seemingly traded every draft pick in his possession for veterans. Tonight, Allen the younger swung a deal to bring Donovan McNabb to Washington. The move also highlights two diametrically opposite opinions of McNabb by Andy Reid and Mike Shanahan. Reid is betting that McNabb has reached his sell-by date, shipping the only QB he's ever had (Doug Pederson doesn't count) to Washington for the 37th overall pick and a conditional '11 pick. Shanahan must feel McNabb still has it, and can become this generation's Sonny Jurgensen, an All-Pro Eagles QB who went to Washington at age 30 and gave the Redskins several years of exceptional play. Remember, John Elway was 35 when Shanahan took over Denver in '95 (McNabb turns 34 this season) and the coach got Elway his first Super Bowl win in their 3rd year together. Who's right? Discuss.
